North Miami‘s openly gay mayor Kevin Burns‘ term ends this May, but he’s not ready to end his political career just yet. He recently announced that in 2010 he will run for the U.S. Senate seat currently occupied by Republican Mel Martinez.
I wonder if he has a shot. Barney Frank has been a powerful Representative for many years, but there’s never been an openly gay Senator. Emphasis on “openly.” Don’t count on Larry Craig coming out of the bathroom stall closet anytime soon.
