Why Can’t More Commercials Be Like This?

Whenever they have some hooker shilling Doritos on TV in a bippy top and cut-offs halfway up her vagine, I get resentful. How come there isn’t a male equivalent? Why isn’t there a dude in a thong eating a Big Mac on my screen vee?

Someone else in South Africa felt the same way. Enjoy the ad for something called LiquiFruit. The end is sudden and weird, though.

  1. The whole ad is weird: 90% of South Africa’s population is Black, but the advertising industry insists on populating most advertisements like this one disproportionately.

  2. I was not impressed. Might as well been watching an ad with those women in a thong. Too femme for me. South African men are so hot. Wish I knew who scouted these fellas.

  3. Your numbers are off. Black is not even 80% now. And where they target the ads, could be more of the upper white class that South Africa has. Just food for thought.

  4. It’s not a weird ad… I saw the other video that Anonymous posted and it makes total sense. The first one is a gay guy giving his version on how those juices are made (and i agree with him 100%) and the other is a straight guy version (which i dont like).

  5. Oh god do we have a politically correct dude here, take it from this South African boy. There is a target market for
LiquiFruit, and the target market they are advertising to is correct. If you actually knew what you were talking about and watched TV here you would see that most adverts do have correctly displayed demographics. And these adverts are a good few years old, I think its just the ending that’s been updated. The thing I like about adverts in South Africa is we mainly try to stay away from politics on our adverts, and if we do raise the topic we tend to mock it in a very comedic way! (

And it annoys me when people bring race into a discussion, I am a white guy and it does not mean I like adverts with white people only. Some of my favorite adverts in SA are the joko tea advert (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqXNOMTXWqY), funny as hell and there are only 3 main people in the ad, 2 of whom are black, is that correctly proportionate? The vodacom adverts, which go back to at least 1996, everybody knows and loves the black dude on there! He has the most classic line. So many examples so little time.

And to not forget, as you so incorrectly stated a figure, whilst the majority of the country is black we have a HUGE Indian population, and growing Chinese population. And as for Black people, just because they are all black does not mean they share the same culture, views etc. That is being very stereotypical.

Political Rant Over!  Sorry for the rant dude, but I think if you ask a lot of South African’s we just want the world to know that they bring up the race issue more than we do, most just want to move on!
