When Bareback Porn Crosses A Line & Becomes Socially Irresponsible

On the most basic level, I should be thrilled about a new scene between Mike Dozer and Brad Kalvo. They’re both huge, hairy muscle bears with great smiles and insatiable sexual appetites. Physically, this is a match made in gay porn heaven! It’s the type of pairing that should make both my dick and my butthole happy, as I fluctuate between wanting to finger-bang myself and wanting to selfishly stroke myself to completion.

There’s just one teensy-weensy problem.

Nope! It’s not that the scene’s bareback. Both Mike and Brad are grown men who can have sex however they want. Contrary to popular belief, I am not against bareback porn. I’ve blown my load to hundreds of bareback scenes over the year, even though I’ve continued to practice safer sex in my Manhunt hook-ups. I will, however, insist until the day I die that the absence of a condom doesn’t necessarily make a scene hotter (for me). Chemistry and enthusiasm are so much more important. I want to see performers enjoying the sex they’re having onscreen.

Mike Dozer wearing a bullshit "condoms are for pussies" tank top

So what’s the big fucking issue? These two seem to be having a field day with one another! Who cares if they pause in the middle of fucking to roll off the condom that’s “suffocating” Brad’s dick? Who cares if one promo shot features them staring at a rubber with the utmost disdain? Who cares if, on the set of Mike’s upcoming bareback scene with Charlie Harding, he was spotted wearing a gigantic grin and a tank top that flippantly stated “Condoms are for pussies”?

You can call me uptight, but I care, and I care a lot.

Shaming condom users is nothing new in the gay porn industry. Treasure Island Media and similar “raw” studios have embedded this attitude into their brand, and while it might be a knee-jerk reaction to safer sex proponents who chastise and vilify anyone who has bareback sex, it’s still massively irresponsible in a time where condom usage among young people is on a drastic decline.

Before you go jumping down my throat, I’m not saying that bareback porn alone is responsible for rising HIV rates and STI outbreaks. I don’t believe that some college sophomore’s going to watch a Sean Cody scene, forget everything he may or may not have learned in his sex ed, and go get gangbanged bareback by a group of strangers.

However, I do believe that if we continue to allow messages like “condoms are for pussies” and no, I want you guys raw to permeate mainstream erotic media outside of the extreme niche “bareback” market, we’re going to see a shift toward productions that glamorize risky behavior without taking into account the potential consequences or, at the very least, drawing attention to preventative measures such as serosorting or PrEP.

I firmly believe that nobody should be made to feel ashamed about the way they want to have sex, provided they’re communicating with their partners and making informed decisions that don’t hurt themselves or others. Shunning the use of condoms is not okay in my book. I would urge Mike Dozer, and anyone else who does this, that it’s time for a “policy change“.

UPDATE: Unlike yours truly, Joe Spunked did some actual reporting to discover that the t-shirt is an inside joke between Charlie Harding and his real-life partner Scotty Rage. This still doesn’t change my feelings about the flippant attitude toward condoms portrayed in this scene between Dozer and Kalvo. Yes, I fully understand the perspective that “porn is fantasy” and, as Harding puts it on his own blog, not necessarily a “tool for social activism”… But whether you agree with me or not, it’s still irresponsible to release a scene that actively depicts condom usage as “uncool” or “inconvenient”.

  1. i miss the days when guys with aids looked like they had aids. steroids, antiretrovirals, and glorifying bb porn all say ‘cross on over to the dark side’. no thanks guys.

  2. I know a few guys who love BB, two of them committed suicide when they couldn’t financially keep up with their HIV treatment bills. If wanting to wear a condom, so I can use my money in more creative and successful ways. Them Damn right skippy, I’m a total pussy, who has his Health, and oh, his money.

  3. All you have to do is look around ManHunt and see the number of men under age 30 who are poz to know that either safer sex ed has lost and/or the bareback porn industry has won. This idea of shaming condom users is outrageous.

  4. Sorry it is not cool to wish to see people looking and feeling unhealthy! While I hate dishonesty and people who do not care about others health I do not wish them to openly suffer either.

But you can draw the lines as an individual and practice safe sex all the time with others and choose to meet who you wish without being mean spirited to the ones less picky or do not share your thoughts and feelings.

Being angry is one thing being hateful is another.

  5. It comes down to self responsibility. You are responsible for your own heath! No one is going to take care of your own heath except you. why is that such a difficult concept for we gay men to understand? I hear HIV treatments these days are horrendously expensive.

  6. AlexA it is obvious you never lived through the 80’s. If you did you would remember going to funerals on a weekly basis, throwing out your address book because 90% of the people in the book were dead and seeing emaciated people walking around in public with purple splotches all over their faces. Yeah Alex A the good old days! May they never return!!!!

  7. Actually I did see many die and go to a lot of Funerals.

Watched the bars empty out as well.
Saw people suffer with it too first hand.

Sorry I do not wish those days on anyone like Alex said.

  8. Maybe Mike Dozer needs to be boycotted. He’s hot but trying to convince people that condoms are for pussies, pushes the envelope too far.

  9. Only viewing porn is fantasy. But the actual making of porn is real, and no amount of rationalization will change that. Porn is commerce, and anyone in the industry that attempts to tell us that BB sex is safe or consolable is lying to you. We’ve known too many suicidal porn actors who realize too late that the decisions they’ve made aren’t good. Even though drugs are available that can mask the effects of it, we are still dealing with a horrible disease that is not curable.

  10. We would like to think that watching what others do in porn has no influence, but that there are plenty who are. We are all responsible for our own sexual behavior and I’ve seen several relationships of friends break up because one person “wants to do it raw” because they are supposed to be in a monogamous relationship and the other doesn’t want to risk it. I’ve also see the trust destroyed because a couple decides to have sex without a condom only to have their partner infect them because they cheated and had unsafe sex. When I see this around me, it has made me even more apprehensive to get into another relationship because too many men have become hard to trust and way too many I’ve met want to engage in unsafe behavior after only a few dates. Too many men, especially in the LA area, still only think condomless sex is hotter, but they forget hot sex comes from sexual chemistry. The community is going to eventually destroy itself from within as long as there is no cure.

  11. And holy shit, what the hell happened to Brad Kelvo? He has been playing way too hard, because he looks like total crap.

  12. And yet Manhunt Daily continues to promote how “hot” porn producers such as the Maverick Men are . . . and promote how cool the Mavericks are and love to play with the young guys and show them how hot going bareback supposedly is, without consequences . . . hmmmmm, Pot, meet Kettle.

  13. And yet Manhunt Daily readers such as yourself continue to ignore that the Maverick Men are pretty militant about HIV testing and the safety of their models.

You seem to have completely missed the point here.

  14. I agree with RicRio but for different reasons. You criticised the message in the video (thank you) then you gave us 16 images, a video and a direct url promoting it.

You almost lead the charge, you almost made a difference but then you wussed out.

  15. Maybe this is dense of me, but I’m not sure how the images, video or URL make my point any less valid.

  16. the 16 images and vid (which didnt work for me :() are not promoting unsafe sex they are promoting sex as their are porn starsits what they do. I think its all down to choice if u want to hve unsafe sex or if u want to have safe sex its ur choice ur an adult, blaming a porn star for having a douchbag shirt on, or porn in general for doin unsafe sex is just absolutely the easy and stupid way out. For myself i just love watchin two hot men get it on and i love brad kalvo, its bare i dont care its a hot scene to watch that said for my own life i dont and will not BB its my choice, porn is fantasy not reality……….i do agree with dewitt n that hes doin his job he shows us porn pics and good ones too hehe, hes not as far as i have seen promoted unsafe behaviour……also did anyone consider yes mike as the dickhead shirt on but inorder to do porn he has to be tested all the time to do bare? kinda makes him look like a bigger douche as its hypocrital for him to say its for pussies from the guy who is tested all the time to fuck….if he was doin bare wit strangers all the time then he can wear that shirt, nd be a even bigger idiot!!!

  17. bacne?

    really?

is it that much a high crime that we just don’t want beautiful human beings (or anyone who could be a useful part of society) to destroy themselves?

the very act of being alive puts one at high risk of death on a daily (if not hourly) basis, simply due to random acts of nature and of machinery.

who’s to say, anyway, what mike does off camera?
and who’s to say mike won’t be featured here on manhunt daily a year later: having passed away due to one (or more) of the “strains” he’s put upon himself?

  18. PORN IS NOT FANTASY! Sorry for shouting, but it just isn’t. These are REAL people having very REAL sex. They are not using Hollywood special effects. While some companies care enough to test as a means of preventing infections, others do not or can’t afford to. And even the so called “safe BB studios” can’t control what the guys do when they are not in front of the camera. Remember SC’s very popular Marshall? If the gossip is to be believed, it turned out that while working for SC, he was an addict and escorting: a combination that can lead to very bad decision making. Thankfully it seems that he got help before he hurt himself or someone else.

Being our normal horny selves makes us complicit in the bad decision making in the personal lives of our community and of our brothers in the sex industry. We can at least decide not shrug off nonsense propaganda (like above) even if it was meant as a joke. Mike Dozer, Brad Kalvo and Charlie Harding might be fake names, but they are real people with families, bills, favorite songs and maybe even a dog. Just like us: past, present and future. What we see and celebrate does influence our behavior. Why else has restrictions on tobacco product advertising and use; and an extensive education campaign coincided with a decreased rate in young adopters of this dangerous habit?

Yes the decision for a lot of the studios to go BB is an economic one. But there is still quite a bit of boner exploding (in the good way) condom porn still being made. So let us not misinform our brothers that squares, not queers use condoms. While risk-reducing, early, accurate detection is possible now, good sex is about good chemistry, not going raw. Treatment has gotten a lot better, but it is being poz is still not a picnic. If you are going to play hide the salami, unless you are certain, glove up! Also be honest and responsible with one another. As guys we know we do not think clearly with a hardon. Yes we thankfully will not be returning to the awful suffering of the 80’s and 90’s, but apathy and indifference are not good enough. We can do better. We have to. At least to honor all those who are no longer here, or those who are here but in dangerous circumstances, or all those here and to come who may not know any better. Let us do what we can for our brothers.

  19. That’s hypocrisy dewett and you know that full well.
This is a promotional article wrapped in controversy which tends to be an asset in terms of marketing.
“If you are curious to see more…[ Insert affiliate link $$]” , come on…

  20. WTF is this “update” ? Jesus christ these porn guys are brain dead.
No need to worry about getting a girl pregnant but you are 40 more likely to get HIV than a straight woma and 76 times more likely to get syphilis, so there is room to worry after all.
So when the article goes on to talk about “hypocrisy” (cough…), in straight VS gay porn we will talk on equal grounds the day people of all sexual orientations are equal when facing HIV.
So far it still looks like a very predominantly gay disease with 72% of new infections occurring in gay men despite the fact that they are such a tiny fraction of the total population.

    These fucking DUMB people.

  21. Dozer is on roids too, people don’t have acne at 34yo, especially on their back, without a little help…
This is how many ill people manage to keep their body in shape for a longer period of time, the treatment often causes lipodystrophy otherwise.

  22. A lack of reading comprehension is also bad.

Please point me to the part of the post where I state “bareback is bad”. I’m against performers shaming people who use condoms and making them feel like their sex isn’t as fulfilling.

I’m NOT shaming people who choose to forgo condoms. That is their choice.

  23. then just imagine how it is in countries like mine where there’s universal healthcare and you know you’ll get all the treatment you need for free… getting HIV “isn’t a problem” anymore and it shows, a lot

  24. Maybe after they look at their condoms with disdain, they can look at their antivirals with a thumbs up…and then let us in on their “inside joke.”

  25. JESUS! I’m sorry if my job requires me to link back and give credit for material, even when I’m criticizing it.

    ::sigh::

You can call it hypocrisy if you want, but at least I’m drawing attention to it and creating a dialogue… And who’s to say that there isn’t someone out there who thinks my opinion is complete bullshit and wants to know where to watch this full scene?

I don’t understand what your problem is with me, or if you just have a chip on your shoulder about everything. I rarely respond to your comments, because I don’t have the time or energy to get into your little arguments where you never attempt to even understand the other side.

This scene (and t-shirt) made me genuinely angry. There was no secret marketing scheme I dreamed up with Jake Cruise, and frankly, I risk getting in trouble for pissing him off by writing a piece like this.

Ugh! This is the last response I’m going to leave on this post. Take it for what it is. I’m tired, frustrated, and I just want to take a fucking nap.

  26. porn is fantasy mr….sure they are real people but its fantastical settings…..when was the last time ya got in leather n a large black padded room n got fucked?, got done by ur doctor, marine officer, postal worker, plumber……sure some timetimes this stuff does happen to some lucky buggers but for the most part we pick up elsewhere in more ‘everyday’ locations ie internet or clubs etc……i do see what you are saying they are real people but the elements of how they doing it is total fantasy not to mention the fact most of the gay porn stars are actually gay for pay guys, how can it be real sex if the guys are str8 n paid for it?

  27. I feel diseased just watching them. On top of that, they are fat, bloated, roided and covered with acne. Gross.

Thanks Dewitt for continuing the eternal manhunt marketing of barebacking and hiv infection.

  28. First of I am sick and tired of HIV men stating they are “healthy and undetectable.” Having an incurable disease is the exact definition of being “unhealthy.” Yes, one can manage and live with a disease but they are far from “healthy.”

Second, the amount of men under 30 who are POZ is shocking and I believe a lot of factors are at play, but simply I would place the majority of the blame on the porn sites for glamorizing it.

    It is THAT simple.

  29. It seems to me that we need a new national dialogue regarding ‘safe sex’ because, frankly, too much time has passed for the current generation to remember the atrocity of the 1980s, and so much progress has been made in terms of treating HIV that it has lost much of its stigma. Telling gay guys, especially those in their late teens and early-to-mid 20s, “Condoms are awesome! Use them every time you have sex!” is akin to telling straight teenagers “Abstinence only! Save yourself for marriage!” That is, it just doesn’t work, IT. DOESN’T. WORK. It doesn’t work for the simple reason that condoms aren’t actually ‘fun’ and ‘hot’ (unless you’re playing a fetish scene and eating cum out of them or something.) Find me a guy who actually says – honestly, and not for the sake of being PC- “I love wearing condoms. They feel much better than fucking raw” and I’ll eat my hat. Find me one guy who says- honestly- “I don’t mind the taste of condoms when I’m giving a blow job” and I’ll eat HIS hat. The fact is, shaming anyone into doing something is probably going to blow up in your face because negative reinforcement doesn’t really alter behavior, it just forces people to choose between the lesser of two evils. We need to find a way to promote a healthy attitude towards our entire being- mind, body, and soul. Right now, many people in this country feel the need to complain to K-Mart about a silly commercial in which (hot!) guys in boxer shorts shake their pelvises. What does that subconsciously teach young kids? It’s OK to play video games in which you literally run prostitutes over with a car, but it’s NOT OK in real life to actually visit prostitutes. What are we teaching here? Look at most European countries and their attitude towards nudity and sexuality, and then compare the rate of teen pregnancies and STIs, including HIV. It’s significantly lower than the US because they don’t try and shame anyone into behaving a certain way. We need to be open, not accusatory. Is this scene hot? I think so. Is it skirting the line of being ‘controversial for the sake of generating buzz’? Perhaps. Only the people involved in making it know for sure. But I won’t go out and rip the condom off the next guy I have sex with, just because I saw Mike Dozer do it, because I still believe, first and foremost, in personal responsibility. I do what is right for me, and I accept the consequences.

  30. Bravo! Fantastic article! I agree it’s a hot scene. It’s one thing when you are just making bareback porn – it’s a horrible example to set when you make condoms the enemy of a good scene – and good sex.

  31. I was the porn and don’t pay any attention to what the t-shirts say that the actors are wearing. Hopefully not for too long. Porn is not a platform for social issues it is for fantasy!

  32. Thank you so much for pointing this out. Since I got infected (the condom broke), I’ve been telling everyone I know how completely diseased and dirty I am. Despite the fact that I go to the gym 5 times a week now and look better than I ever have, I know I’m rotten on the inside, like all people who have this filthy disease. Despite the fact that I see a doctor every 3 or 4 months and know more about my body and how to take care of it than I ever would have thought.
And this “undetectable” line of crap that trained medical professionals and scientists tell us increases survivial timelines and greatly minimizes transmission risk…well that’s horse shit and we all know it, so let’s quit crowing about it.
If more people were as honest as you about how dreadful the experience is of waking up and living every day when you know you’re living with HIV, without a doubt the under-30s who so shockingly tell the world up front that they’re POZ would crawl under the nearest rock and wait for the reaper…just like they should, right? Or maybe they would just continue to say they’re neg because they were when they last got tested three years ago…and that might be easier for all of us, right, because then we wouldn’t have to be so helpfully honest about how incurable and unhealthy and totally contaminated they are. And they wouldn’t have to worry about dealing with all that pesky stigma.
So thanks again for the post! You’re a great reflection of the helpful and uplifting spirit of our community!

  33. If they want to bareback that’s fine but the scenes with Mike Dozer and Brad Kalvo sneering with disdain at the condom and then mike and Charlie Harding mocking condoms with that shirt was just stupid. If they want to risk their lives that’s fine but don’t shame people who aren’t into risky sex and bug chasing. Also why is it none of these guys want to reveal their status? If their so proud and “brave” as the barebackers like to call themselves then why not be open about everything?

  34. Not that I’d agree with smearing at condoms, but… It seems hypocritical to me that it is worth putting up here. Group sex run rampant in gay porn, the risk of any STD rise exponentially because of it. Cruising, sex with strangers, glory hole, all would play a role just as severe if not more so to the spreading of HIV. And there can be condemnation along with glorification with all of those topics — Tell me if you don’t ever get the notion that “a real sexual beast/power house have sex with several at the same time” from gay porn.

Check up the stats, infection rate from anal intercourse isn’t magnitudes higher than vaginal intercourse. The difference? Number of sexual partners and the frequency of switching. There’s a more fundamental problem to things yet we keep setting our eyes on the one easy picking target — Not that we shouldn’t have our eyes on it, but when it becomes the excuse to overlook other problems then there should be a red light somewhere. Right now the whole community eyeing this one thing like a hawk and talk about only IT as it IT is the one and only key to everlasting life, is worrying.

I saw someone saying something about boycotting the actors — They’re making something so people can jerk off to it. They’re making it that way because some people, maybe not you, gets excited watching it. Send him a private email if you’d like, but firing condemning propaganda towards someone with judgmental tone, why does it all seem so familiar not long ago.

Well I know the blog is trying to wash down the condemnation tone, but hey you’re doing that because you know there’s some problem with it don’t you. We all know that there’s a fine balance between things and if I don’t jump in and air out that other side then it wouldn’t be fair.

  35. condoms are for pussies. Your pussy has aids. when these guys get infected and sick , the company is gonna drop you for a another guy. when your in the hospital dieing those men will not be there for and your just gonna be another gay man that died from aids. HIV is real use condoms and stay clean

  36. Now I have no interest in ever buying anything from this studio or with these guys again. Bareback porn is dangerous and bad enough, but this kind of antagonism towards HIV prevention is deadly dangerous. Too bad. I’d thought that Dozer was hot before this.

I hope it was worth it guys, to lose customers for life over such ridiculousness.

  37. he probably wore it just to get a rise out of people and that is what he accomplished. It is his right to free speech. Doubt it is going to make guys eschew rubbers.

  38. So now he’s accused of statutory rape with a 14 year old boy. This POS wants to take everybody down with him.

  39. I dunno, the 14 year old was on Jack’D looking for sex. If he lies about his age to get into that kind of sites, what makes you think he is not lying about the whole rape thing?

  40. Actions have consequences.

The previous poster made no mention of “dirty.” So obviously you’ve taken this a bit too personally? Let’s look at definitions of the healthy and unhealthy. Seems to be pretty clear that a person living with an incurable disease is “unhealthy” – be it HIV, Cancer, or Ebola.

Also I find it interesting that your idea of “healthy” is looking good and knowing more about your body. Feels pretty shallow . . . but what was preventing you from working out or knowing about your body and what diseases you can get before your condom broke?

  41. Look it’s pretty clear. Anyone straight, gay, bi, white, black, brown, yellow, green, male, female. not sure, who has any incurable disease or diseases, especially one that eventually causes premature death, must tell their potential sexual partner about said disease(s) before any action that might pass the disease on to the other person. Then that person can make his or her decision if they want to proceed. To intentionally hide this information is attempted assault as well as attempted murder in a worse case scenario. It also must be said that people who have any disease are not “dirty” or “less than” anyone else and should not be treated as such. The majority of those folks are caring, loving, and decent individuals and don’t “deserve” anything. However, unfortunately there are people who aren’t decent human beings and intentionally lie and withhold information that they morally and legally should be sharing with potential partners. The “you didn’t ask me, so I didn’t tell you” excuse is not a pass on doing what is right.

  42. Well i guess you think that your parents making you was disgusting and unsafe cause they “barebacked”

  43. Reality check: do you not get the message about personal responsibility
and hypocritical bullying via the ‘inside jokes’? Being able to read and
not comprehend is a terrible example of a poorly utilized brain. Criticizing
the “messenger” of this site for his own opinions and observations is like
shooting the lab tech for drawing infected blood to be tested. Unbelievably
sad and ‘way off the mark’.

  44. 40 more likely to get HIV?? I dont know what fucking school or research you did but you are wrong!!! Straight people are the ones with more porcentage of HIV.Google it or research it somewhere, damn americans..!! duh!!

  45. You can’t lie about statutory rape. You’re either underage or you’re not. And Dozer has already admitted he knew the kid was 14 before he had sex with him.

Also, way to hold a child responsible for an adult’s behavior.

  46. Is the government cracking down and telling him he can’t wear the shirt? No? Then his “free speech” isn’t being compromised. The First Amendment only protects you from the government. It doesn’t free you from criticism when you say incredibly stupid and irresponsible things.

  47. some of the haters and condom nazi’s act like they are the governtment with the way they try and control what kind of porn is available though.

  48. Which still has absolutely no bearing on the concept of “free speech.” You can say anything you want. It doesn’t mean there won’t be societal repercussions. Like, for example, comparing safe sex advocates to “Nazis” is quite possibly the stupidest thing you could have said without undergoing sudden brain damage mid-sentence, but you were free to say it. Just like I’m free to point out that it’s an extremely idiotic thing to say.

  49. your free to have your own opinion too but that does not make you right. i used the term condom nazi’s in reference to people like michael weinstein who have the my way or the hiway attitude about things. i was not referring to safe sex advocates as a whole many of them are great people doing great work, like harm reduction strategies, because they realize that your cannot force others to comply to only have sex with a condom. sadly there are those who don’t understand that so they continue to try and force their way upon others and if anyone doesn’t like it tough.

  50. your probably the only one who misses those days. it’s sad that someone would want to turn back the clock so something like that simply to get their viewpoint across regarding bareback porn.

  51. HIV is not AIDS, first off. The good ole days was actually BEFORE this disease was created when the ONLY reason to wear a condom was birth control, period! (NOT when it was easily recognizable, which is horrible considering you sound as if it was more convenient for you to know one’s status by physical degradation) I personally hate latex and condoms both, but one has to prioritize what is more important, unless one finds playing Russian roulette exciting…..

  52. Must we gay men always have something to bitch about? Seriously it’s a fucking t-shirt. Jack off to the damn video and move on like the rest of us, if it’s not your thing just don’t watch it. And then we wonder why the gays have the rep we have…

  53. Yes, I’m sure gay men have a bad reputation for speaking out against blatant condom shaming. I’m sure that’s it.

  54. I just refuse to see porn with “educational purposes”. Doesn’t matter where one comes from, you always get to the point of thinking: “Barebacking” in straight porn never been accused of increasing the rates of gang banging, or group sex, or Syphilis or irresponsible pregnancy. Still sounds like hints of morality trying to guide how porn material (specially gay porn) should be in order to be recognized and accepted by society.
Adults doing things WITH adults FOR adults enjoyment fully aware of consequences or their actions. And thats all.

  55. Those guys are not bears. They’re gay men who take way too many steroids who are HIV+ and either want to get reinfected with the strain of HIV they have, get a new strain, get Hep C, get other STDs, and mess up their medications. That’s why BB porn is a turn off.

  56. HIV can still be fatal. ifthis jerk lied about his status in jail he should go1 so its not a big deal? hiv IS a big deal getting it will change your life forever, expense of meds? do the meds agree with you? what are long term effects of the meds? going to the doc the rest of your life , the stress that every time you get your check up something is going wrong..the stress having to explain yourself to family, friends, co workers and sex partners and if you dont tell anyone the stress of keeping the secret ..hiv is a VERY BIG DEAL..its not a fucking cold or upset stomach, regardless if you ever progress to aids you have all the above to deal with ..

  57. LMAO you realize that pretty much all of those guys in porn that are in BB porn are HIV+ or have other STDs, right?

  58. @Ivan-That’s the main reason why so many gay men get infected with HIV and other STDs they think that their BF or partner of the moment could not possibly be HIV+, or would never cheat on them, and that it’s OK to do it bareback because he’s a BF/partner.

  59. But the virus still diminishes quality of life. Treatment alone is about $29,000 a year. It’s not a “death sentence” but it’s far from the “living longer” mentality. It’s a nasty disease. I’m not trying to sound negative or condemning here. It’s a tough thing to undertake and not a walk in the park whatsoever.

  60. bullshit on two counts: new treatments don’t cause lipodystrophy, certainly not to the same extent as they did in the 90s, and my mother still has acne – and she sure as hell isn’t on steroids!

  61. It’s spelled amatEUr. What do you mean by amateur anyway? That’s someone doing something gratuitous as opposed to a professional earning money with it. If you think of virgin gays with that term, your opinion is that they should have unprotected sex on their first time? Unfunny.

  62. And that is a perfect example of why it is not fair to force those of us who are responsible to pay for those who are not. So if I make great money and I am responsible for my health (don’t smoke, do drugs or engage in risky unhealthy behaviors apart from things you can’t predict like cancer), i should be taxed to death to pay for bare backers?

  63. That’s not how it works.
We are in it together that’s how society functions.
People smoke, drink, some have unprotected sex, but it is far less costly than alcohol and smoking damage health wise.
Just like if you got cancer because you had carelessly handled asbestos, society would pay for your treatment.
What a dark horrible world you must live in to be so selfish with your taxes.
