Weekly Top Ten Wild Card: Total Mishmash

Wondering why your favorite song hasn’t been added to our Weekly Top Ten countdown? Blame Britney and Gaga. Thanks to the heavy hype surrounding their new singles, most major pop artists have opted to hibernate until further notice. Rest assured, we’ll eventually add Jennifer Lopez, Ke$ha and Katy Perry‘s upcoming tracks. But we’re waiting until they’re all given that extra promotional push.

Until then, let’s examine today’s Wild Card contestants, including Kahi, Two Door Cinema Club, Chris Young and Erykah Badu. We made a sincere attempt to choose songs that weren’t “typical”, so it’ll be interesting to see how this round plays out. Voting is open until Friday morning! Only one of these artists can win… Who will it be, old chap?

– Dewitt

To listen to these selections and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

Kahi – Come Back, You Bad Person: Yes, we giggled a bit when we first read this song’s title, but then we realized it’s probably just a case of “lost in translation”. Kahi is the leader of South Korean girl group After School, and this track represents her Beyonce-like venture into solo territory. It’s perfectly okay if you don’t understand the lyrics. You can still appreciate this beautiful dance jam.

Two Door Cinema Club – What You Know: If you’re into redheads (aka anyone who blew a load to these posts), then you’ll inevitably fall in love with Two Door Cinema Club’s Alex Trimble. He’s like Ron Weasley! With a guitar! Honestly, all of the guys in this band are pretty fucking cute, and it helps that their music isn’t half bad either…

Chris Young – Voices: Are you one of those people who loves all music except “country and (insert other genre)”? Well, feel free to put this video on mute, because you need to witness Chris Young in all his adorable glory. Seriously, we could watch this man smile at a camera for hours. Even while listening to sirens or nails on a chalkboard. UNF.

Erykah Badu – Gone Baby, Don’t Be Long: Though the novelty of the video may wear off after the first minute or so, there’s something blatantly sexy about Ms. Badu’s latest single. It recalls those moments when you’re anxiously waiting for your man (or fuck bud) to come ravage the hell out of you. Or something much deeper than that. Whatever the case, this track makes us kind of horny. Just sayin’.

  1. Definitely. Love ’em. Even if they’re *so* mid-2010. (just kidding, I don’t care. still love this song.)

Anyway, on another note, I really appreciate the diversity in this wild card. Even if I didn’t like them all.

  2. went with Kali because its a great dance track. Almost went with TDCC, but their “ironic” use of T&A was still exploitative — “ironic” doesn’t cut it.

Would love to have heard Sade sing the Badu track — DeWitt’s right in part, because the arrangement is sexy as hell, but Badu’s voice is too grating to be seductive. As for Chris Young, great dimples, but he’s got nothing else to recommend him.

  3. i don’t understand a word of Korean… but DAMN i really like Kahi’s song.
Two Door Cinema were … all right… but i’m sorry Erykah’s stale mid 90s style RnB does nothing for me…

  4. @RichardHunter~~~Totally agree! Very hot man with sparkling eyes, great smile and deep sexy voice. Think of what he must sound like when he’s unloading…
