Weekly Top Ten Wild Card: All Over The Place

Things are heating up on our Weekly Top Ten countdown! Even though Kelis still holds the lead, she could face some serious competition from Pink and Rihanna. Those two aren’t too far behind, and they could easily sneak up and snatch her crown at the last minute.

Of course, they’ll all be facing four brand new competitors, and we need your help in choosing who’ll fill the final spot! Today’s edition of the Wild Card round features music by Willow Smith, Sheryl Crow, Epica and Chris Salvatore. You only have one day to vote for your favorite selection, so click through and make it happen!

Willow Smith – Whip My Hair: For a decent amount of time, we managed to avoid posting this track. However, the music video just came out, and it’s the fiercest thing we’ve seen since “Scream” by Kelis. And you know I don’t use that word lightly. To make matters even more awesome, the clip features a cameo by transgender dancer Leiomy Maldonado, who you may recognize from the dance troupe Vogue Evolution.

Sheryl Crow – Sign Your Name: We gave Sheryl Crow a chance in the 2010 Song of Summer competition, but she didn’t make it past the first week. As you can see, we’re giving her a second chance with her new single “Sign Your Name”. Except this time around? It’s up to you to vote her onto the charts!

Epica – Unleashed: I’m always amazed when people suggest great songs, then immediately dismiss that they have no chance on our countdown. Have some confidence in your musical taste! Some of us are into the “typical” bullshit, while others enjoy Dutch gothic metal bands. And quite honestly? Even the typical folks might be able to get down with this…

Chris Salvatore – It Gets Better: Piano-based power ballad? Check. Incredibly sappy and tear-jerking lyrics? Check. An excellent message against LGBT teen bullying? Double check. We’ve talked junk about Chris Salvatore in the past, but that’s because “Dirty Love” was a mindless piece of crap. He should try making more music like this! As long as he keeps singing without his shirt, we’re good with him.

  1. I have to go with Sheryl Crow since I’m a long time fan. Her version is a good as the original by Terence Trent D’arby. As for Willow Smith…..seriously? Gay men can’t be that shallow.

  2. Gotta go with “Epica” ’cause it’s the only cut here with any credibility at all, where the artist is doing something consistent with their musical reality. Willow Smith is a close second maybe, but it’s just too put together and manufactured, even though she sounds amazingly like Rihanna. Sheryl Crow is just too white to be doing such a classic soul song like “Sign My Name.” She looks more like she’s going to the Grammy Awards Ceremony in this video. And Chris Salvatore may be a hot-looking guy, but this song and performance is just mush.

  3. Willow Smith? That video was chaotic and all over the place…I LOVED IT!!! As for the song…not too much a fan at this moment, but I must admit it’s a bit catchy. I think I would have enjoyed it much more if it were Nikki Minaj or another older artist, but she’s off to an okay start.

  4. Guess I’m alone in thinking “Whip My Hair” is a totally awesome song, and the video was is pretty cool too, haha! I’m sure more people would like it if the chorus wasn’t so repetitive, but overall, I love it!

  5. Willow Smith…no…yes, she’s only 9 years old, but her music is all about style and not substance. When she’s actually got more than a decade’s worth of experience beyond elementary school, I’ll take her seriously as an “artist”.

Sheryl Crow’s song was good, but I wasn’t wowed by it.

Chris Salvatore is nice to look at. His song is okay, taken on it’s own… but his facial expressions and the like were really over the top.

I voted for Epica. Metal is not my first (or even second third or fourth) choice, but their music sounded very well done, and that’s what I prize above all.

  6. As a survivor of a bullying-driven suicide attempt back in the tenth grade, I am inclined side with anyone who is fighting anti-LGBT bullying and letting LGBT teens know that life will get better. But Willow Smith, c’mon; seriously?

  7. Man! we really need 2 in the morning from girlicious as a wild card! 😀 it’s a total dance tune! 😀

  8. I’m in love with Willow Smith’s song. She’s just adorable. I think she’s going to be around for quite a while. Sure the songs not the best in the world but the girl is 9 for god’s sake. That video is MAJOR though.

  9. I agree with Phoenix. I really wish someone older had did the song. This is like dancing to Miley Cirus. However, after Ms. Smith’s video. I cant help but love the song.

  10. Thank you for actually putting Epica in! I never expected you to. I hope it does well. Their music is very good. I might as well recommend another song. Completely different genre, but another song that has actual musical talent. And, yes, I’m assuming people don’t vote on musical talent, which is what I look for first whenever I hear anything.

The band is The Reign of Kindo. They’re just spectacular. I’m picking Thrill of the Fall but all their songs are very well-done. This is the only video of that song i could find online:

  11. Epica really got the blood pumping with that metal/drums and guitar riffs! I already figured out the video’s “sixth sense” plot, but the songstress voice was amazingly awesome!

  12. willow smith’s song and video was…re-DICK-ulous! i loved it. let’s have a little more ‘fun’ in this day and age, guys! she, the song, and the video are all cute. i’ve still got a place in my old-gay-heart for fun and cute. gonna ‘burn one’ and listen to it again.

btw–she’s nine years old, she’s not supposed to be making serious music…yet.

    ;-D

  13. Please guys, get real. Willow needs to go to school and live a normal life for a few more years instead of being thrown into the spotlight so she will end up like Miley or Lindsay. Sheryl Crow gets my vote.

  14. that fucking song by willow smith was obviously produced by the headonapplydirectlytotheforeheadheadonapplydirectlytotheforehead ppl………..she’s got a good voice even if it’s overly produced. but this song is so fucking annoying….shave ur head and start over kid

  15. Sheryl Crow for me. Sadly I knew she’d have a hard time on here. Ugh.

Hey…have there been any songs by Feist on here? There should be.
