Weekly Top Ten: Kylie Does A Victory Dance

After winning the title of 2010 Song of Summer, pop queen Lady Gaga‘s “Alejandro” will be officially retired from our Weekly Top Ten charts. Although many of you didn’t agree with this designation, you can’t blame us for it! You’re the ones who voted her to the top.

If we had any plans to elect a 2010 Song of Autumn, we’d say with great confidence that Kylie Minogue‘s “Get Outta My Way” would be the frontrunner. There’s potential for Rihanna‘s latest jam to make a bid, but she’s going to need a lot more to push ahead of the Australian dance diva…

Alas, we have no intentions of crowning anyone with that title! Let’s focus on what’s going on right now, as in the unfortunate exit of Shakira, Kanye West and Stromae. These four artists couldn’t obtain enough votes to stay on the countdown, so we had to send them packing along with Wild Card rejects Kings of Leon, Belle & Sebastian and Mumford & Sons.

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, gently spank Bear Grylls‘ butt while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

UPDATE: The poll should be fixed. Head over here if you can only vote for one of the choices.

– Dewitt

To check out the charts and vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Kylie Minogue – Get Outta My Way (LW – 1, W3): Kylie didn’t just defeat the competition. She trampled the living daylights out of every single one of them. Long story short, it’s going to be a while before this song is dethroned from the number one spot.
  2. Katy Perry – Teenage Dream (LW – 3, W8): Katy Perry may be obnoxious as shit, but there’s no denying this catchy and euphoric jam. Well, I guess you could deny it. The point we’re trying to make? It’s going to be around for a while, so you better get used to it.
  3. Rihanna – Only Girl (In The World) (LW – 7, W2): Is it safe to say that Rihanna’s “back”? Though we never thought she went anywhere in the first place, many are considering this her “comeback” from the darker Rated R period. So far, it’s doing pretty well on the charts! Let’s hope it can keep up the momentum.
  4. Scissor Sisters – Any Which Way (LW – 4, W5): It’s a shame Scissor Sisters didn’t unleash this as their first single, because it would have provoked much more enthusiasm than “Fire With Fire”. Alas, we’re still glad it’s out in the open. Have you bought your copy of Night Work yet? Because you should. We’ve got to support our fellow gays!
  5. Selena Gomez – A Year Without Rain (LW – 9, W2): We’re not even ashamed of loving Selena Gomez anymore. The Disney star is making a successful transition from tween icon to dancefloor diva, and we’ll be supporting her every step along the way.
  6. Adam Lambert – If I Had You (LW – 5, W14): Why did we bother saving Adam Lambert when he’ll just be retired on next week’s countdown? Beats the hell out of us! After all those weeks in the top five, I guess we’re just hoping that he’ll make it to the “retired” category…
  7. Kelly Rowland – Rose Colored Glasses (DEBUT): While it’s not quite “When Love Takes Over”, you can rest assured that it’s not trying to be. This poppier selection is one of our new faves, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that it’s a hit for Ms. Kelly. Look, she told y’all she was gonna bump like this, so get used to it!
  8. Enrique Iglesias f/ Nicole Scherzinger – Heartbeat (DEBUT): Does this song make you want to have lots of sex or take a nap? You know where we stand on this matter. However, you can feel free to express your opinion by voting or not voting for this selection.
  9. Florence + The Machine – Heavy In Your Arms (DEBUT): We’re not holding our breath over this track staying on the countdown. As a throwaway single from the Twilight: Eclipse soundtrack, it’s not anywhere near as good as Florence’s previous releases.
  10. Maroon 5 – Give A Little More (WILD CARD): Seriously, guys? I’m not sure how you chose this crap over Kings of Leon or Mumford & Sons, but you all owe me a blowjob for letting this happen. Or maybe Adam Levine owes me a blowjob. Either way, my dick better get sucked after this.

  1. Dewitt, fix the poll. I can only vote for one and I won’t vote ’til is working properly because I want to vote for Rihanna as well. Thanks.

  2. Since you can only vote for one, Rihanna gets the vote. Suggestion for the Wild Card is Insatiable by Nadine Coyle. She is one the Girls Aloud like Cheryl Cole and it’s also trying the solo thing.

  3. Rihanna, Scissor Sisters and Kylie get my votes. I want to suggest Sky Ferreira’s new single “Obsession” for the Wild Card.

  4. Shouldn’t the ones who were only able to vote for one be allowed to vote for two more since the poll is now fixed? Would only seem fair.

  5. Enrique is looking less twinky and more manly than ever in this video ! I think I’m feeling his heartbeat, now ;-)lol

  6. Finally they fixed the poll. I went with Rihanna, Kylie and Florence. This week’s Wild Card should be all female. Besides Sky Ferreira, I want to suggest Nadine Coyle with “Insatiable”, Zoe Badwi with “Release Me” and Kelis with “Scream”.

  7. YOU MUST CHECK OUT THESE VIDEOS:

La Roux – In for the Kill – Brand new song and video – amazing!!

La Roux – Quicksand – they have release 2 vids at once, this one and “In For The Kill” – both are great.

The Ting Tings – HANDS – for all the Kylie fans, this is a throwback to 80’s Kylie (e.g. Locomotion). The video and song are both amazing!

    Lets try and include these!

  8. Scott – I totally agree. In For the Kill and Hands are totally rockin! Best songs out there for sure! So techno and 80’s beats. Sure to get the dancefloor ablaze.

I didnt like Quicksand when I first heard it, but after seeing the video, it has really grown on me. La Roux for sure has staying power!

    Vote these in peeps…

  9. Hands by the Ting Tings and In for the Kill by LaRoux. I agree with Ryan and Scott. Great late summer songs and videos. Very addictive.

Quicksand by Laroux is ok. I can see it growing on me.
