Weekly Top Ten: Kelis Screams Her Way To The Top

Move over, Kylie Minogue! There’s a new number one song on our Weekly Top Ten, and it belongs to eclectic pop artist Kelis. The raspy-voiced singer brought all the boys to the yard yet again, they made it a point to vote for her brand new single “Scream”.

However, her victory comes with a few consequences. Kelly Rowland, Bruno Mars, Florence + The Machine and The Ting Tings weren’t able to rake in enough votes to stay on the countdown, so we had to send them packing along with Wild Card reject Kanye West. Better luck next time!

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, get ready for some double penetration while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

– Dewitt

To check out the charts and vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Kelis – Scream (LW – 7, W2): Never doubt the power of David Guetta. The dance producer teamed up with Kelis for the third single from Flesh Tone, and it clearly paid off for both of them. With his help, the “first girl to scream on a track” trampled Kylie Minogue by thirty-three votes.
  2. Kylie Minogue – Get Outta My Way (LW – 1, W6): We knew Kylie couldn’t be on top forever, but we didn’t expect these results. Needless to say, she has a reputation on these charts for coming back after she’s been knocked down, and it’s only a matter of time before she snatches the crown back.
  3. Katy Perry – Teenage Dream (LW – 3, W11): Thankfully, this song only has four more weeks in the competition. Although it may be one of Katy’s least obnoxious singles, we have a few regrets about saving it a few weeks ago. This bitch was only two votes away from defeating Kylie Minogue!
  4. Scissor Sisters – Any Which Way (LW – 4, W8): For those of you keeping count at home, this is the seventh week the Scissor Sisters have come through in fourth place. It’s becoming more suspicious that there’s some conspiracy behind this. Wait, are those Jake Shears’ testicles? Somehow, we’ve lost all desire to question this strange coincidence.
  5. Rihanna – Only Girl (In The World) (LW – 2, W5): I’m dumbfounded that this song is in fifth place. Whether I’m soaping up in the shower or driving down the highway, that chorus keeps popping up in my head. Clearly, you’re not as enthusiastic about this uber-gay dance number…
  6. La Roux – In For The Kill (LW – 10, W2): We weren’t going to save La Roux, but then we saw the US version of the “In For The Kill” music video. Holy sailor looking through a peephole! There are definitely some sexy moments in that clip. To watch it, click the link to the left.
  7. Pink – Raise Your Glass (DEBUT): With every day that passes, Pink just seems to become more awesome. First, there was the astounding “Glitter In The Air” performance. Next, we have a raucous new single about being “wrong in all the right ways”. And just when you doubted that things could become even more awesome? The music video will feature a gay wedding.
  8. Taylor Swift – Speak Now (DEBUT): Okay, after a few more listens, it’s becoming wildly clear that this does sound like every other Taylor Swift song. So is it wrong that I still love it? Maybe it appeals to my inner wedding crasher…
  9. Tinie Tempah f/ Eric Turner – Written In The Stars (DEBUT): We could always use a little more testosterone on the charts, so we were more than happy to oblige your request for this UK hip-hop jam. Can it defy the bias against hip-hop on the Weekly Top Ten? Stay tuned in to find out.
  10. Christina Aguilera – You Lost Me (RETURN): Bet you didn’t see this coming. In celebration of Aguilera’s victory on the dance charts, we thought we’d bring back this Bionic track. Does anyone know which remix brought it to the top?

  1. I’m not sure if there are any other remixes floating around out there that might have brought Christina to #1 on the Dance charts. I’m sure there are. But the only dance remixes for You Lost Me that I’ve been able to locate are done by Hex Hector & Max Quayle

  2. My votes went to Katy Perry’s fantastic Teenage Dream, Christina Aguilera because I’d love for her to have a hit again and to Taylor Swift.

But with Taylor my vote in my heart is for Mine and not Speak Now. But better something than nothing…..

  3. Hey All – Check these out:

    1. ACE OF BASE IS BACK!!!!! – Yes you heard me right – they are back with a killer new song that just debuted in North America. It is called “ALL FOR YOU” – please check it out.

    2. CASCADA – “PYROMANIA” – officially released in North America with a HOT HOT video. Crazy sexy male firefighters/spacemen/robots. Already a huge dance-floor track.

Let’s get these songs on manhuntdaily!!!

  4. I voted for Pink, Laroux and Rihanna. However I have a question about La Roux that I am hoping someone can answer:

They have another song that is getting alot of radio attention and the video is getting played too. It is called “QUICKSAND.”

I actually like it better than “In for the Kill.”

Is this their new song or an old one?

If its new, have a listen and lets get it on the top 10!!

    La Roux – Quicksand

  5. Voted for Kylie and Christina. I loved You Lost Me, it was highly underrated and arguably the best track on Bionic.

Not too sure if you have mentioned this, but check out Soul Survivor by Beverley Knight ft Chaka Khan (Bimbo Jones Remix). Its the definition of Diva House, and its fabulous! Hands up in the air material indeed.

  6. La Roux, Tinie Tempah and Christina. Glad she’s back. Hopefully Hurts and Wonderful Life will return since those lyrics are taking a different meaning now with all these news of kids being bullied and killing themselves. Don’t mean to be too serious here. Just a suggestion.

  7. Last weeks poll was clearly rigged by some rabid Kelis fan who voted like a million times at a public library or something.

  8. I agree with Ryan. I am so over the moon that Ace of Base is back. I think everyone is going to love the song. I would vote in a second for “ALL FOR YOU.” And I think Cascada’s new song “PYROMANIA” has #1 written all over it.

I am going to dork out here and recommend James Blunt’s new song. It is actually upbeat and very catchy:

-James Blunt – “Stay The Night”

-sorry Ryan, I dont have an answer for you about La Roux. But I do think “Quicksand” is the better of the 2 songs.

  9. Pink needs to be #1 – I’m sorry but such a better song than Kylie. Remember that Pink writes her own music, Kylie does not.

I second and third the sentiments about Ace of Base. That is a killer track – All For You. Take a listen bois.

I also second that song Pyromania by Cascada. The vid is hot and the song is her best work in awhile.

I would like someone to try and answer the La Roux question as well, cuz here in Detroit they are playing “Quicksand” all the time. I rarely hear In For The Kill.

  10. Well…

The haters may hate for me to break the news, but Lady Gaga just had a new leaked song called “Nothing On (But The Radio)” and I suggest that you all check it out and get that added to the countdown. It may possibly be on the new album.

Guys, you gotta add that to the Top Ten…it’s an awesome feel good track.

Other than that, my vote goes to Kylie AND Kelis. I love both of them, so I can’t help but go for both. And also Rihanna.

  11. love the la roux track.

cannot understand why anyone would want to ruin you lost me by turning it into a dance track. i think its one of the best tracks christinas ever done, but i really dont like it as a dance track.

  12. I have to echo the sentiments of the new Ace of Base track. I love it love it love it! Does anyone know if there is a video?

Neil, u r not a dork at all – I love the new James Blunt tune – it should have been released in the summer. Great song + I think he is crazy hot.

Buffalo radio stations are playing Pyromania by Cascada more than any other new song. I think it has great potential.

I don’t believe that “leaked” song by Lady Gaga is actually hers. She has been pretty tight about her upcoming album.

Speaking of Gaga, why wasn’t “MONSTER” ever released as a single. That is far and away the best track on her album!!!!!!!

  13. PINK is #1.

Judging from all the responses on here with new song requests, I have a feeling peeps are getting tired of the same old stuff. I listened to all of the new songs and i have to say GREAT choices! Here are my faves in order:

    1. James Blunt – Stay the Night
    2. Cascada – Pyromania
    3. Ace of Base – All For You
    4. La Roux – Quicksand (so much better than the awful In For The Kill)
    5. Beverly Night – Soul Survivor

    Just my thoughts!!

  14. Actually, Rob, Kylie does write a lot of her own music. On Aphrodite, she didn’t have a hand in writing as many of the tracks as she usually does, though.

  15. KELIS?? Are you kidding me? It doesnt even sound like her? What happened to her ghetto-fabulous milkshake and bossy? I don’t even think this is her real voice + she looks horrible in the vid.

Pink is the best. Not only does she write and sing and produce her own music, she is a HUGE supporter of our rights!

As for the new songs suggested, I love the new James Blunt song “Stay the Night.” Its too bad that it wont do well on here.

Another awesome song is Sheryl Crow’s new one “Sign Your Name.” She is the hottest she has ever ever ever looked. Justin Timberlake sings back-up on the song. Its too bad it will be overlooked for all the dance songs. Maybe there should be 2 weekly top 10’s. Top 10 dance/pop, and top 10 rock/alternative.

On the flip side, I would vote for “pryomania” by cascada if it were on the countdown.

  16. I voted for La Roux, Tinie Tempah and Christina. My suggestion for the Wild Card is “Nothing but love” by Axwell, a killer dance track.

  17. PUSH BACK, SCREAM AND SHOUT!!!
gotta love kelis and the video to this song, its wicked

    1. kelis scream and shout
    2. p!nk raise ur glasses (she’s a down ass bitch lol)
3.rihanna only girl in the world (this song is sooo damn catchy)

  18. I voted for the three with the smaller percetange of votes because they ain’t coming back. I also want to see Axwell’s song in the countdown. Such a happy song.
