Weekly Top Ten: Kelis Beats Kylie Again

You may recall that Kelis is the first girl to scream on a track. Although she doesn’t actually raise her voice on her latest single “Scream”, the song has still managed to smash through the sonic barrier and top our Weekly Top Ten charts for the second time in a row. Long story short? It looks like Kylie Minogue‘s reign has come to an end.

Speaking of the end, we were forced to wave goodbye to Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Tinie Tempah and La Roux‘s “In For The Kill”. These four selections didn’t rake in enough votes to stay on the countdown, so we had to send them packing along with Wild Card rejects Beverley Knight, James Blunt and Cascada. Better luck next time!

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, grab onto Brett Favre‘s cock while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

– Dewitt

To check out the charts and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Kelis – Scream (LW – 1, W3): Has Kelis successfully made a transition to ultimate dance diva? She’s truly out-gayed herself with her latest single, taking down Kylie Minogue for the second time in a row. Now that’s something to scream and shout about!
  2. Kylie Minogue – Get Outta My Way (LW – 2, W7): Based on the scores, Kylie Minogue is actually tied with Pink for second place. It’s been a while since something like this happened. In fact, the last time may have been when “Alejandro” tied “All The Lovers”, in the round which cost Kylie the 2010 Song of Summer title.
  3. Pink – Raise Your Glass (LW – 7, W2): Although it’s been said that second place doesn’t get a prize, we’d love to shower Pink with a huge pile of gifts. It’s not only because her new single is so good, it’s ’cause she’ll be officiating a gay wedding ceremony in the music video. Amazing!
  4. Rihanna – Only Girl (In The World) (LW – 5, W6): That’s more like it! Rihanna moves up one spot, and she has potential to go even higher after the debut of the “Only Girl (In The World)” music video. We seriously can’t wait for her new album Loud to drop! It’s gonna be some epic pop music.
  5. Scissor Sisters – Any Which Way (LW – 4, W9): Given the tie between Pink and Kylie, this is technically the Scissor Sisters eighth week in the number four spot. Are we the only ones who are starting to become suspicious about this? Or are we looking into it too much?
  6. Christina Aguilera – You Lost Me (LW – 10, W2): This wasn’t an easy decision. We couldn’t save Katy Perry or La Roux, and there was no way in hell that Taylor Swift or Tinie Tempah would have a chance. In the end, we had to side with Ms. Aguilera, whose beautiful slow jam gained new life on the dancefloors.
  7. Robyn – Indestructible (DEBUT): How can you listen to this song and not have an over-the-top aural orgasm? This is hardcore. And it’s only going to get more hardcore when Robyn drops her new mini-album Body Talk Pt. 3.
  8. La Roux – Quicksand (WILD CARD): It’s amazing how long it takes for the world to recognize pop music greatness. Remember when Lady Gaga’s first few singles hit number one on the charts months after their debut? That’s kind of what’s happening with La Roux right now. Now that “In For The Kill” has been booted from the charts, we’re moving on to the next one.
  9. Rye Rye f/ M.I.A. – Sunshine (DEBUT): I know we’re supposed to be all over Nicki Minaj’s dick, but is she really the most exciting female rapper in the game? We’ve got to give major props to Rye Rye. She’s working the youthful energy of ol’ school rappers like Roxanne Shante, and this cameo from M.I.A. certainly doesn’t hurt her case!
  10. Ace of Base – All For You (DEBUT): We’re not going to lie. We kind of hate the new Ace of Base. There was a point where we thought it might grow on us, but it’s just become even more irritating over time! These new bitches can’t hold a torch to the original lead singers, Jenny and Linn Berggren.

  1. I voted for Kylie, La Roux and the awesome Robyn. My suggestion for next week is “Well, well, well”. Is the first single from Duffy’s new album “Endlessly”. I know is very different from any of the songs here, but hey is good to showcase different types of singles. Give it a listen.

  2. Robyn, Pink, and SS for me.

Dewitt, I know how you feel about Ke$ha but you should think about including her new song “We R Who We R” next week.

  3. Christina, La Roux and Robyn. I think Indestructible deserves to skyrocket to #1. I also like the suggestion about Duffy’s new song. Lots of cute guys in that video.

  4. It’s good to have Robyn back in the chart. I voted for her, Ms. Aguilera and La Roux. Please, please, Dewitt. Have mercy, mercy, mercy and give a chance to Duffy. She’s my favorite UK singer, although she is Welsh. I love all of her music.

  5. Christina – “You Lost Me” is no “Beautiful”…but it really demonstrates just how powerful her vocals are.

Ace of Base – “All For You” almost sounds like their classic stuff. 🙂

Robyn – “Indestructible” is an ok piece if you compare it to the other choices.

The rest is generic crap that could be elevator music (at best). Most of the pieces lack the change in musical keys required to draw the human ear in. And there are a few pieces that use minor chords in a major key…Monotone doesn’t work for everyone. cough

  6. I liked Duffy’s song. She’s still doing that neo-soul sound, but it suits her. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the album.

  7. Pink, Ace of Base, La Roux:

Suggestion for next week!!! I know that the site managers hate KESHA, but she is coming out with a new companion album to Animal called Cannibal. The first single she wrote for the LGBT community and is hoping it will become a pride anthem. She has thrown her support behind us, perhaps its time to give her a second chance!!

    Kesha – We R Who We R

  8. My suggestions for the Wild Card this week:

-Radioactive by Kings of Leon (awesome track)
-To make you feel my love by Adele (popular again thanks to X Factor in the UK)
-Well Well Well by Duffy (she’s one of the best singer in the UK along with Adele these days)
-Nothing but love by Axwell Feat. Errol Reid (one the best dance tracks of the fall)

  9. Pink and Ace of Base all the way!

Wildcard: Kesha – We R Who We R

And if guys on here will overlook dance songs for a minute, and see how fabulous and glamorous Sheryl Crow looks like in her new video, my pick for next week would be:

Sheryl Crow – Sign Your Name

  10. Ace of Base need to make it! Whether or not you like the new girls, it is a really good song.

I second Sign Your Name by Ms. Sheryl Crow. Wow! Does she ever look amazing! What a voice, even if it isnt dancefloor beats.

The new Kesha song is really growing on me as well – We R Who We R.

A suggestion to whoever runs this – maybe for a week you shouldnt post ur own comments under songs, and let us listen and decide. Sometimes your comments are harsh and might persuade people – e.g. your comments this week about ace of base and all of your comments about kesha. Just a thought.

  11. I have a sincere question… Why do most songs if not all at times have to be dancefloor beat songs? Is that all that homosexuals are supposed to listen to? I ask because I just don’t get into that style. I know that my style wouldn’t make it. How do I know? I’ve seen others try to get them on the charts, yet they never make it.
I guess the real question is this: IS that the style most homesexuals listen to? Or is it the style just represented on here?

  12. Kelis rocks but id suggest Edward Maya – Stereo love, if you boys havent partied to it already 🙂

  13. Pink, LaRoux, Ace of Base.

Kelis? Come on! Kylie? I haven’t heard this song on the radio once or seen the video other than off of youtube.

My pick for next week is Katy Perry’s new one. It is called “Firework” and is crazy catchy and not as slutty as her other songs.

I totally agree with ToddM about everything being dance. I have seen alot of posting about the new Sheryl Crow. I bought her new album, 100 Miles from Memphis and it is pure genious and a great work of art. I dont think it will do well here, but i third the nomination of “Sign Your Name.” Lets give her and some other music a chance!

  14. I usually prefer not to be negative, but all of my favorite songs and artists aren’t choices anymore… 🙁

So I ended up just casting some random votes against the top three snooze fest going on.

The Kelis, Kylie and Pink songs are forgettable non-hits that I can’t figure out why these guys are rooting for them.

Ace of base, Christina and Rihanna got my votes.

  15. This is my fave part of manhuntdaily.

My votes for new entries next week are:

    1. Firework by Katy Perry
    2. We R Who We R by Kesha
    3. Sign Your Name by Sheryl Crow (I know its not the song for here, but maybe guys will love her hot look, and the cd/radio single has backing vocals by Justin Timberlake).
    4. Monster by Lady Gaga – I heard it may be a single leading up to her new album.

    Thanks Guys!

    Ian

  16. @ToddM

Because gay men apparently can’t listen to Rachmaninoff/Metallica/Grieg/Mad Caddies/Chopin/Matchbox/Tchaikovsky/what have you.

Might as well reinforce stereotypes! One step forward, two steps back. =)

But a serious answer is probably because they use ‘top’ songs played on pop radio/at a club.

  17. Great competition!

I hope it goes to Pink or Rihanna!

My pick for new entry is Firework by Katy Perry.

Is that for real about Gaga releasing “MOnster?” If so I would jizz in my pants. Its my fave song of hers!!!!!!!

  18. Nelly Furtado is back on the scene!! Yay!

She has a best of cd due out on Nov 16th with 4 new songs! The new single is out right now – “Night is Young” – check it out! Maybe we can include it soon or when the vid is released. Cool tune!
