Weekly Top Ten: Enter The Gagapocalypse (Part II)

Without any doubt, this is the most stereotypical edition of the Weekly Top Ten. It could only get gayer if Cher, Madonna and Barbra Streisand were thrown into the mix, collaborating on a thumping club track about getting fisted on the dance floor.

For the fourth week in a row, Britney Spears holds the number one spot with her infectious single “Till The World Ends”. Things are bound to get ugly with the debut of Lady Gaga‘s second effort “Judas”. Basically, we recommend holding onto your man-weaves! It’s about to be a throwdown between the little monsters and the Godney brigade.

Not that anyone cares or anything, but this week also marks the departure of the Glee Cast, Sade, Nicole Scherzinger and Jill Scott. All four of their songs failed to take in enough votes, so we had to send them packing along with Wild Card rejects Beth Ditto, Oh Land and the Black Eyed Peas.

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, assume the position while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for any and all that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

– Dewitt

To check out the charts and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Britney Spears – Till The World Ends (LW – 1, W7): If I said that the dancing bunny from earlier this week has better moves than Britney, would you hold it against me? The so-called “dance” version of this music video came out yesterday. We’re trying to be nice and all, but…
  2. Adele – Someone Like You (LW – 2, W7): When you take into consideration that this tune’s on the slower side, it’s seven-week run becomes all the more impressive. What’s even more impressive is that it’s still pulling really strong numbers. Do you, gurl! Or some other similarly gay expression.
  3. Lady Gaga – Born This Way (LW – 3, W10): Will Gaga be a victim to her own success now that “Judas” is on the charts? Or will “Born This Way” bounce back after our epic dance-off this past Wednesday? Are twinks dancing to this song in their underwear as we type? We only have an answer to the last question–hell fucking yes.
  4. Katy Perry f/ Kanye West – E.T. (LW – 4, W3): Things aren’t looking good for Mrs. Russell Brand. Despite her flashy intergalactic music video, “E.T.” hasn’t managed to get any higher than fourth place. She’s bound to drop out of the top five with today’s fiercer competition. ::sigh:: Does this mean we’ll have to save yet another Katy Perry song on next week’s countdown?
  5. Kylie Minogue – Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love) (LW – 5, W3): Given that this isn’t technically an official single, you’ve got to give Kylie credit for lasting at least three weeks on the charts. Let’s see if she can defy all odds and make it four weeks!
  6. Kelly Rowland f/ Lil Wayne – Motivation (LW – 9, W2): This is largely a symbolic move. Even though Nicole Scherzinger had more votes than Kelly, neither of them had much of a chance in this round. Not to mention, we wanted to give Ms. Kelly some time to shine before Beyonce’s new track pushes her back into the shadows…
  7. Lady Gaga – Judas (DEBUT): It’s safe to say this has grown on us. We’re not quite on the “I love it” level, but that could all change with an excellent visual component. All in all, we still can’t believe there’s a pop song on the radio with lyrics about an “ear condom”.
  8. Rihanna & Britney Spears – S&M (Remix) (DEBUT): A largely superfluous contribution by Ms. Spears, but we’re willing to cope if it gets people to pay attention to RiRi’s third single from Loud. Judging from her performance on Idol, “California King Bed” is next on deck. That Rihanna reign just won’t let up, eh?
  9. Ke$ha – Blow (WILD CARD): While Beth Ditto got an early lead on everyone’s favorite trash pop urchin, she managed to make a comeback with this raucous club banger. We’re going to blame James Van Der Beek. It’s socially acceptable to admit he’s totally bangable, right? Like, moreso than when he was on Dawson’s Creek
  10. Sahara Davenport – Pump With Me (DEBUT): Nobody told Sahara Davenport about last week’s Wild Card round, so she didn’t get a chance to campaign against a certain former Pussycat Doll. What did you expect? Natalia Kills or Jessie J?

100 thoughts on “Weekly Top Ten: Enter The Gagapocalypse (Part II)

  1. Very disappointed that Jill Scott & Eve didn’t get many votes. I went with Adele, Kylie, and Kelly Rowland. I am NOT a fan of that Britney song at all. I preferred “Hold It Against Me”. And James Van Der Beek is so much hotter now than during Dawson’s Creek. It’s too bad he’s hanging around that awful Kesha.

  2. hahaha, love your intro.

surprised britney stayed on top for so long, i still dont dig that track so much. hold it against me was so much better, but it died off very quickly on every hit list.

and a bit disappointed with rihann’s next single choice. it’s a ballad, but it’s not as good as take a bow or unfaithful, never mind the title. she won’t be getting to number 1 with that.

judas has grown on me a little as well, but after i finish listening to it i have bad romance stuck in my head and oddly enough tatu’s song ‘robot’ if anyone heard it. though i still think it’s too noisy and nowhere near the old gaga tracks.

can’t wait for next week’s billboard hot 100.

  3. hahaha, love the Catholic League’s response to Judas. They called GaGa “increasingly irrelevant” and trying to stir religious controversy as “the only way to jet up her performance.”

She will be Mary Magdalene in the video. This is such a cheap move, but Catholics gave her appropriate response. They don’t really bother criticizing it or calling her blasphemous, they just shrugged her off as “irrelevant”. There you go girl. Even catholics dont give a shit, not to mention other non-religious folks. Desperate.

  4. I voted for Adele, Kelly Rowland, & Kanye & Katy Perry. Motivation just drips sex. Kelly’s voice is kind of screechy, but I can forgive that because the song sounds like sex on vinyl. (Can’t wait for the new Beyonce to drop, by the way!!! Yes, it’s possible to like both B & Kelly.) Is it possible for an awful song by a talentless singer to be made even more awful by the addition of an ALMOST equally talentless singer? The S&M remix answers that question with a resounding yes. The problem with Judas – aside from the fact that Lady Gaga gets on my nerves now – is that, while the hook is super-catchy, the verses sound like complete trash. If this was the choice for the second single, I’m scared of what the rest of the album sounds like. I think someone got lazy while recording their sophomore album…which totally puts her ahead of schedule. Superstars usually don’t start buying into their own hype and releasing shitty, half-assed music until their fourth or fifth album…

  5. i am not a fan of lady gaga anymore… well the old gaga yeah but not this new hyped up one… im not buying anything more of hers until it returns to a sane state. and for everyone else… i love it lol

  6. Is Lady G. starting to take herself too seriously? I read she’s doing the Judas vid dressed as Mary Magdalene? I passed on her even though I like “Judas” and voted for some others.

  7. Gaga’s song hurt my ears. As Nex has already said it, “desperate” fits.

I went with Adele, Kylie and Rihanna & Britney S&M, just for Riri’s sake

  8. Agreed! Shes lady Madonna … sad. I’ll vote for britney bc she has a chance of beating her.

  9. I voted for everyone except Kelly and Sahara. Still getting used to Judas. Suggestion for next week is Army of Love by Kerli. It’s Top 3 on the Billboard Dance Chart.

  10. i would hardly call the success gaga has had and will continue to have irrelevant.

remember, the catholics think we’re irrelevant too

  11. no, they meant she is getting continuously irrelevant with the religious controversies she is trying to stir. first alejandro video, now this.

i know what catholics think of us and that’s why i’m not happy gaga keeps shoving god in our asses with a second song in a row. in born this way it was god this, god that. here’s it’s like that start to finish.

well, it’s her choice. but i think it’s the beginning of an end for gaga. she is alienating too many fans. i can say i was a “fan” at some point. but definitely not anymore.

  12. @nex, you continually are very negative and almost borderline rude at some of your comments. I have a bad cold right now and nothin better to do on a saturday night, so i was reading past posts, and way back when telephone by lady gaga was out, u wrote a post saying something like:

“as soon as britney comes out with new material, gaga will no longer get my vote.”

So it seems to me that you are just anti-gaga cuz britney is out with new stuff. You predicted way back then that you would no longer vote for gaga when britney comes out with new stuff, and that was well before you even heard any of her new stuff. Even if you loved the new gaga, you would never say so.

People can like britney and gaga. In fact I just voted for both of em! It doesnt have to be one or the other. They are both unique, successful, and are 2 of the biggest players in music right now.

  13. I was having trouble deciding between Till The World Ends and S&M. But your Rihanna reign just don’t let up pun swayed me.
Plus I recently got Rated R and Loud from Rihanna and I have a new appreciation for her amazingness

  14. Oh, please, ladies. It’s all pop trash. Let’s not argue about it; none of it is any better than the rest of it. Chillllll.

Having said that, Judas is definitely a lot cooler than Born This Way, although I will agree that this “WAH JESUS CHURCH RELIGION” hoolpah is getting old. She’s turning into Marilyn Manson cica 1996.

  15. I decided to give all of my support to Katy Perry’s E.T. and Lady Gaga’s Judas.
I agree that Britney’s Hold It Against Me was much more entertaining and distinctive than Til The World Ends.

  16. @Mel, you seem like my stalker now. Anyhow, replying to your post: if i hated gaga why would i ever vote for telephone?

@X she is becoming some sort marylin manson indeed. that reminded me of telephone parady where ‘beyonce’ calls her MM. have a look, very funny:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvOucvTpKrE

  17. Eight of the songs seem to have a lot of votes. I wonder if 4 really have to go. Never understood why so many songs have to debut every week if many don’t make it past the first round. Looks like a bunch of one night stands and only few get a second date, LOL.

My suggestion for next week is “Better than love” by Hurts. It was their first single released a year ago, but it’s coming back with new remixes and also as a Double A Side single with a song called “Illuminated”. Freemasons did some of the remixes.

  18. Nex you are obsessed with pointing out Gaga’s defects. Can we just keep down to the numbers and the songs in this chart?

This week looks like is a very tight race. I’d be sad to see Kylie or Katy go. I second the suggestion for Kerli’s song (another girl with K) and I also want to recommend “Open your eyes” by Alex Metric & Stve Angello feat. Ian Brown.

  19. @JPH. People deserve the truth. Why should she get a way with this? GaGa is causing a lot of noise with her last 2 singles and they are both rip-offs. I totally hate when anyone calls her an artist. She is just a fraud in my eyes now.

  20. I’ve held back on suggesting this song, but it’s not that old and it’s eternally catchy. El Guincho with his song “Bombay.” I think it’s great, but probably won’t do well here because 1) It’s not English, 2) The artist isn’t conventionally “hot,” and 3) there’s a lot of boob action going on in the video. But seriously, I love this song, and it’s one of my most played songs. And the reason I’m suggesting it is because Adele was the only thing I wanted to vote for this week… Oh! Speaking of Adele, I know MHD isn’t that friendly towards rap, but Reminded by Tyga ft. Adele is pretty great.

  21. Gaga x2, Rihanna ft. Brit, Katy, Kesha.

As a newbie to posting anything on a blog, I have to say that “nex” is very negative, brash, and immature. Anyone who has a differing opinion and he/she goes bananas on them. It seems all he/she does is spend his time looking up stuff to bash Lady Gaga with.

We get it. Nex hates her. The general public likes her. Move on already.

    Next topic? lol.

Anyway, I also don’t like seeing so many songs go. I think the top 6 should survive and you should save one, and then put 3 new ones in. I also think you put songs on WAY TOO EARLY! That is why you keep on bringing them back (Kesha, Katy, JLO, BEP, etc). Give the lisenting public some time to actually listen to them before voting.

  22. @brad, well said my friend! i haven’t posted on here because of all the negativity, and it all seems to stem from @nex.

by the way, i think most of the people that use this blog are guys, so you don’t have to be p.c. and say he/she – that really made me laugh – haha.

i think in general we should be less negative. wouldn’t the world be a better place.

    🙂

    happy sunday

  23. guys, say all you like. those who speak the truth always get harsh criticism from others. i don’t care if you find me negative. i’ll always speak for the truth.

@jason, there aren’t only guys on here. that Mel poster claims to be a straight female, so w/e.

  24. I voted for Adele with Someone Like You… and that’s it.

Everything else kind of sucks. I’ve never understood why, as a group, gay men have such awful musical taste.

As far as Gaga, I didn’t like her that much when her first album came out. When Fame Monster came out, she won me over. Every song on there made my most played list.

But what she’s doing now is the worst she’s ever done. Born This Way was awkward and a Madonna rip off. I decided to wait til Judas came out to decide whether or not to revoke my fan status.

Well now it’s out… I’m not impressed. It’s better than BTW, but Judas is basically Bad Romance, but not as good.

I officially take back anything good I may have said about Lady Gaga after Fame Monster came out.

  25. I wonder what Adele’s next single is going to be. Everyone is convinced it’s Set Fire To The Raid, but I think I like He Won’t go much more. Both songs are great though.

  26. to the Rain* lol. and yes it is going to be her next single.

sad news though, she was replaced at the top of UK album chart after her uninterrupted 11 week reign. but i’m sure she’ll be back next week.

  27. First time I’m checking out this post properly, and that none of the above option is looking pretty enticing. Maybe i’m just horrible at being gay but most of these songs could only be worse if Rebecca Black were singing them. Maybe do special editions of the weekly ten with older music from different genres? Lights Resolve, Breaking Benjamin, The Darkness, OK Go, Pink, Avril Lavigne, Paramore, The Killers, All American Rejects, The Cranberries, The Cardigans (continues to rant like a homeless man in the subway)

  28. Can anyone explain to me why any of these songs should be voted on?
Adele is the only artist that can sing without computer enhancing but her song is boring.
Britney, Katy, Gaga, and Ke$ha all need to go away. They had their moments and now it’s over.
Want something new? someone talented? check out Soraia , an up and coming band who has been opening for Bon Jovi at some of his concerts. http://www.soraia.com

  29. I am not that impressed with Adele’s rolling stone cover. She looks all thin and airbrushed. One thing I loved about her was the she was chubby and not afraid to show it. Her face was always shown in full form, and her body was never hidden in vids.

Now she is all air-brushed and looking thin for American audiences on rolling stone.

I hope she doesnt sell out now that she is getting attention in america.

  30. really? i think she still looks herself on that cover. they just made her hair massive and her face suddenly looks small comparing to it. normally she has her hair put together on top etc. + tons of make up… but what could you expect. if they airbrushed it (which they would for anyone in any case), then it’s their fault. i’m happy as long as i can hear her amazing voice over some good quality music. 😉

  31. Judas is a terrific song. Elements of Bad Romance? Yes of course. But all singers have elements of their older recordings in their newer songs. Madonna samples from her old stuff. Britney samples from her old stuff. Etc.

Judas is risky and not safe. That is what I love about it. I didnt like Brit’s last 2 cuz I thought they were too safe and a tad dull. Now if she releases “How I Roll” or “Big Fat Base” or “I Wanna Go” then I will go crazy, cuz they are amazing songs that are risky and not safe. Thats the type of music she needs to make.

I give credit to Gaga for Judas. The play and interpretation of the lyrics is incredible.

  32. For me personally i really don’t like Judas, sure other artists sample from their older stuff occasionally but artists like Madonna & Britney have been around for YEARS & have a HUGE catalogue of hits, gaga has been about for 2 years or so?
+ When i listened to Judas for a second time (yeah i don’t know why i went back for another listen) i realised that it is SO similar to Bad Romance! it can’t be called a sample of it because it is just Bad Romance take 2 lol.

  33. I dont know what you are on about, but I cant recall Madonna or Britney ‘sampling’ any of their older songs on any of the album cuts, not to mention major singles.

Britney’s Inside Out has references to Baby One More Time & Crazy, but those are “references”, not “samples” or copies of any sort.

  34. Could be that Judas sounds like Bad Romance because is produced by Red One. He worked on both tracks as well as Alejandro and Poker Face. In my opinion I don’t see a resemblance between those songs. Maybe this new album is Gaga’s “Like a prayer”.

  35. @KLF here’s another link. hurry up before it gets banned on youtube. judas pretty much 100% mirrors bad romance in every single part of the song. every single part. no kidding.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESrRYzPQwbc

first express yourself 2.0, now bad romance 2.0.
is she releasing an album of remakes?

  36. @nex – you are just ridiculous. People are loving Gaga – and i am not talking about the very very very small % of people that log onto this site, I am mean millions of people.

The beginning of Judas sounds a tad like Bad Romance, but that is it. The lyrics are completely different. The chorus is not even close. Some beats here and there may be similar, but it is completely different.

Rolling Stone, who, other than perhaps Billboard, is probably the biggest editor of music happenings reviews Judas as follows:

From its drone-smeared synth throb to dancefloor confessions like “in the most Biblical sense, I am beyond repentance/Fame hooker, prostitute, wench,” Gaga’s latest club crusher from go-to producer Fernando Garibay is a feistier monster than “Born This Way.” Released in time to achieve total dominance by Easter, “Judas” is Gaga in button-pushing, morals-tweaking mode — Catholic pundits are already bunching their undies in anticipation of the song’s Mary Magdalene-themed video. But even when she plays divider, she’s still a uniter, working her black magic without sacrificing a dollop of Earth-striding anthemic woosh.

Not a mention of comparison to Bad Romance. The community reviews on Rolling Stone are equally as good.

  37. Till The World Ends – fluffy pop trash. Britney dancing is worse than the fluffy Easter Bunny. The new edit of the video made my laugh. She dances like a former russian czar with her arms crossed and shit. They know she can’t move from the waist down so they just film her with arm dance moves. I heard she has the same arm/hand movement coach that Celine Dion uses.

Anyway, people on here may not like Gaga at all, and some may hate her. At least she writes all of her own music, sings all of her own songs, always sings live, knows how to dance, co-directs videos, co-produces songs, takes risks, and pushes the envelope. What of the above statements applies to Britney? NONE!!! And those who keep saying that Brit has been in the business for 7 years so you can’t compare, blah blah, blah, well you would think after 7 years she would learn to write a song by herself and sing live. I guess her talents are in the hands of all her handlers. Real music genious comes from creation. Britney hasn’t created anything on her own yet….

  38. @chris, you must be deaf. check the link i posted. the evidence is there. type “bad romance judas” and find a hundred more videos if my link doesnt satisfy you. it’s a 100% match not only in the starting bit, but in every single part of the song. everything. intro, verse, prechorus, chorus, mini-post chorus, bridge… 3rd chorus.. outro… jesus.

rolling stone also mentioned in their review that “the song BASICALLY sounds like a CROSS between Bad Romance and Poker Face” and that “it LEANS HARD on Gaga’s signature moves”. that’s in polite musical terms, in normal terms it means: a freakin rip-off. period.

here’s the link to that review (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/listen-lady-gagas-new-single-judas-arrives-early-20110415)

and before calling anyone talentless, go check wikipedia for writing credits on previous britney albums. you might get surprised. btw, she’s been in the business for 12 years. how old are u? you sound like u been around for no more than 12 years yourself.

i’m out of this childish argument. blind gaga fans would call her a unique artist and a talented performer even if she goes on stage farting into a microphone. i’m not one of those people, so forgive me for pointing out the truth. bye.

  39. 1. That is not the official review of Rolling Stone Magazine. The official review (the one I posted) can be found under Singles Reviews on Rolling Stone.

    2. Anyone can manipulate youtube. Get a more credible source.

    3. Writing “oh ya” or 3 or 4 words is alot different than writing an entire song.

On all fronts Gaga is outdoing Britney. That is based on sheer numbers and radio play of the last 2 years. People can have their own opinion, but when you add up the numbers, Gaga is on top in every way possible.

  40. BEYONCE NEW SINGLE JUST LEAKED!!!!!!

    YEP!!! BEYONCE!

THe song is called: “Girls (Who Rule The World)”.

Alot more r&b and a bit darker, but an amazing song.

Finally some true singer-songwriter talent – Beyonce, Katy, Gaga, Kesha, Adele. Can’t wait for Madonna later this year!

  41. FYI – just another amazing feat:

Lady Gaga’s newest single “Judas” has reached the top ten in every country with an iTunes store… in less than 24 hours. The RedOne-produced track also sits atop download charts in twelve countries, including the Uninted States, Canada, Portugal, France, Belgium, Finland, Italy, Greece, Ireland, Spain, Sweden and Mexico.

“Judas” is expected to debut in the top 10 on next week’s Billboard Hot 100 with only 2.5 days of availability.

  42. @Chris
You trash Britney in everyway possible but won’t hear a single negative about gaga at all! i don’t love gaga but i don’t hate her either some of her songs are alright. But to be totally honest Judas sounds ALOT like Bad Romance in MOST of the entire song.
+ Just to add in Britney may not be taking so many “risks” as gaga has but at least she hasn’t offended people’s religion, race etc through “risks”.
Oh as well as that there’s the whole Britney can no longer dance & gaga is a talented dancer shizz? please i’ve seen the born this way video she basically runs around in circles then gropes a guy that’s got so much skull make-up on he looks almost as trashy as she does in those “necessary” bra & panties that unfortunately leave so little to the imagination. 🙂

  43. Stevie Nicks has a new song and video out.

I am so excited for this album. Her songs and voice are so beautiful.

I am so happy she made a video. Her 1st single Secret Love didnt do too well on here. Maybe this one will.

Stevie Nicks – Cheaper Than Free”

  44. Ok, I barely ever post here, so

    /rant on

@Chris, are you a fuckin moron? Do you even know what songwriting credits means? If the person’s name is listed 3rd or 4th in the writing credits, then yes, maybe they added only 3 or 4 lines to the song. However, if their name is credited first, then they wrote the song. I went to wikipedia to check Britney’s credits and she wrote at least 20-25 of her songs and co-wrote at least as many. So next time before you start trashing someone, gather some info on them first.

You call youtube not a credible source? For fuck’s sake, it’s not even a source. And the link to the video is more like proof, cos it’s audio, it’s not a gossip or an opinion, it’s an audio proof.

First you call Rolling Stone the biggest music reviewer, but when someone provides the link to Rolling Stone page where they call Judas a Bad Romance & Poker Face rip off you call it not official? You live in a total denial.

Seems like Lady Gaga has the dumbest fans on the planet.

And can the editor of this website stop being so harsh on Britney? He is encouraging all these arguments between fans. I couldn’t care less for any of those pop divas, but it is utterly stupid to trash someone who’s been successful in the business for more than a decade over someone who just started a couple of years ago, but whose last 3 singles been plagues as total rip offs? Where is talent in ripping off other people’s music? Alejandro = Ace of Base, Born this way = fucking Express Yourself + Vogue, Judas = a parody of her own Bad Romance. 3 rip offs in a row. That’s too much of a coincidence if you ask me. I try, but I fail to see talent in that. Wearing dresses made of meat or some other random shit doesn’t help it either.

    /rant off

Back to other news, is Beyonce’s song a joke or something? It better be. I really wish her well, but this better be a bad demo, cos as it is now, it totally sucks donkey balls.

  45. Can we have some rap tunes here for a change? I know they are often homophobic and ‘no homo’, but I don’t care.

  46. Agreed on the “can has different genres pl0x?” sentiment. I know the user voting scheme will always mean that the catchy pop tunes float to the top, but there is so much more to music than Gaga vs Britney. You guys could at least make an effort. It’s quite sad, really.

  47. The Beyonce song is terrible, but that means it will be huge here. Sadly, all this Gaga vs Britney debate means that our musical taste has become generic and over the top. Did someone notice Dewitt is not making any new music posts in this blog?

  48. I know some “hipsters” can be pretentious douches, but seriously, I hate the whole sarcastic “Yeah, you’re so cool because you’re against the norm,” thing. And I get it, it’s targeted at certain people, but gossip and derision of this type makes bystanders fear having different taste. Attack their attitude, not the principle they’re trying to perpetuate, albeit fashionably. I mean, really, people aren’t allowed to go against the stream these days? Looks like we’re all just closeted straights, then.

  49. hehe, Dewitt, it has gotten ugly here like you predicted!

@Imperatus, thanks for your explanations to mr chris.

@Imperatus, she is also the executive producer on her Blackout which is considered her best album by most critics.

@KLF, i also noticed that. he used to post a lot of stuff about music, but now it’s only cocks and butts.

I also agree that Beyonce song is terrible. Sound like it didn’t make a cut into B’Day album (which was terrible by the way), but now she releases it as a single. Sad. Unless the final cut sounds completely different.

  50. one thing which i dont get Dewitt, is why you say music threads dont generate enough traffic?
to me they seem the most popular. 50+ comments on this page alone. there are quite a lot of 50+ music pages from past several weeks. i never see those porn posts generating anything close to this. maybe they are more profitable cos porn companies pay you for putting links to their websites. can’t you put itunes links on music pages for same results? (obviously i dont know the data and solely judge by the number of comments.)

  51. Imperatus and Nex seem to be the same person, but with different names? No?

They are the only 2 on this site that not only attack other songs, but they actually attack other bloggers. I don’t see anyone swearing at anyone else on this site except what they wrote.

As for songwriting, it is not like tv or movie credits. Several artists have it in their contract when they get other writers to write their songs that they are going to appear 2nd, 3rd, whatever. There is no formula for deciding song writing credits.

As for Bad Romance and Judas being the same song, this is the only place I have heard people rant from that.

As for Rolling Stone, I checked their website today, and the only “official” review of Judas is what Chris posted. The other one was not an official review. It was from a freelance blogger. There are only a handful of people who write official reviews for RS and they can be found under Reviews – Albums, Songs, Movies.

Imperatus – you need to relax and calm down. Everything is okay. Now now now. It’s alright.

    🙂

  52. Speaking about music sites/mags that have a good reputation, I often turn to what the Brits have to say. I usually find it more mature and honest. PopJustice has always been in the forefront. I have been going back and forth about Judas vs. Bad Romance, and there are some similarities, but all in all completely different. Here is an interesting Q&A from PopJustice. I will post their review later:

    Q&A TIME

    What is the BPM?
Somewhere in the region of 130. Yes, you will be dancing to this song.

Is it actually about Judas out of The Bible or is it pretending to be about Judas when in fact it is about something else?
The first time Lady Gaga played us the tune she told us that in broad terms it was about being in love with the worst guy you’ve ever met, but as you might expect there’s more to it than that. “It’s about leaving your darkness behind in order to come into the light,” she added the other day. “I have a lot of things that have haunted me from my past – choices, men, drug abuse, being afraid to go back to New York, confronting old romances – and Judas represents, for me, something that is bad for me that I can’t escape. I keep going back and forth between the darkness and the light in order to understand who I am.” So, very broadly, the main portion of the song is about Gaga in private and the middle eight is about Gaga in public, two themes that are explored elsewhere on the album too.

Is it better than ‘Bad Romance’?
It’s too early to say yes but it’s too close to rule it out.

Does it actually sound like ‘Bad Romance’?
Well, ‘Judas’ is to ‘Bad Romance’ as ‘Bad Romance’ was to ‘Poker Face’. It’s a new experience in familiar territory, like dancing in your favourite club after it’s had a new soundsystem fitted. The nods to ‘Bad Romance’ are deliberate – Gaga told us that while sometimes it’s important to push herself in new directions, as she does throughout the album, “sometimes I do count my stripes and make sure they’re all there, and ‘Judas’ was one of those records. I wanted it to be an evolution from where I’ve been before but in terms of the formula I wanted there to be something about ‘Judas’ that reminded people of what I’ve done in the past”. So there’s a post-chorus like the ‘Bad Romance’ “whoah-oah-oh” bit (here it’s “whoah-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh I’m in love with Ju-u-das, Ju-u-das”), there are some ra-ra post-chorus hook bits (“Juda-Judas, Juda-Judas, Juda-Judas, Juda-Gaga”) and the song unfolds similarly too: post-chorus, post-chorus hook, song slams in with verse one, then pre-chorus, big explosive chorus out of nowhere, then back down to post-chorus, post-chorus hook and so on.

Is it better than ‘Born This Way’?
We think it is 2.5x better than ‘Born This Way’. ‘Born This Way’ could/should only have been the lead single from the album, and it does make more sense in the context of other album tracks, but ‘Judas’ is more up our street. It’s a pop song that’s happy being ‘just’ a pop song and it immediately feels more ‘proper Gaga’ – whatever that really means – than ‘Born This Way’.

Does it sound like any songs by other notable recording artistes?
    No.

    Will some people dislike it?
Yes, and it is important that these people are able to accept that they are wrong. They will need your love and your respect while they come to terms with this difficult truth. Do not pity them, just offer them your help.

  53. Here is the review:

    In short:

    ‘Judas’ is extremely good.

    In long:

Imagine a highly evolved, Titanium-plated ‘Bad Romance’ from the year 2511 travelling half a millennium back in time to save music from a tidal wave of ‘in the club’-obsessed pop drivel, and that’s ‘Judas’. We love this song so much. It’s pop in all the right ways, it’s noisy in all the right ways, it’s brash and bombastic and funny and audacious and stupid in all the right ways, and it’s smart in all the right ways, too.

On the surface it’s a song about being double-crossed (“even after three times he betrays me”), contemplating revenge (“bring him down, I’ll bring him down down, a king with no crown, a king with no crown”), but being repeatedly drawn to awfulness: “I’m just a holy fool but baby oh baby he’s so cruel, but I’m still in love with Judas, baby”.

Vocally Gaga’s in completely new territory (in the verses and pre-chorus she hurls herself into a decadent half-sung, half-rapped Jamaican Patois style), the chorus is a thousand storeys high, there’s a demented tribal techno breakdown, and the whole thing is a little bit overwhelming for all the right reasons. Importantly, as a turbo-charged electrogothic wrongness anthem ‘Judas’ sounds like a lot of fun – like Gaga had fun writing it and like RedOne had a lot of fun producing it. If Abba ever went to the sort of poppers-‘n’-fisting Mannheim sex club Jake Shears told us about in 2009 ‘Judas’ is the sort of song they would have come up with. Maybe this is all good news for those of you who felt that the overstudied carefreeness of ‘Born This Way’ missed its target.

We first heard an early version of ‘Judas’ last May, the same time we heard that early version of ‘Born This Way’ and a handful of other tracks that have made the album, and we last heard the track a couple of weeks ago – not the very final mix, apparently, but we were told there would be no major changes. While the sound of ‘Born This Way’ had changed a lot by the time the single version debuted, the sound of ‘Judas’ has been industrial, thunderous and frantic throughout.

One of the more recent additions to the song, which has apparently only appeared in the last few weeks, is a middle eight that goes like this: “In the most Biblical sense, I am beyond repentance. ‘Fame hooker’, ‘prostitute wench’, ‘vomits her mind’… But in the cultural sense I just speak in future tense. Judas kiss me if offenced, or wear an ear condom next time.”

You might raise an eyebrow at ‘offenced’ but remember how “WHAYOURBARROWMANCE” didn’t exist until Spring 2009 and these days it’s part of all our lives. What does the ‘Judas’ interlude mean? “It’s pretty east to decode,” Gaga told us when we asked. “In terms of traditional views of what a woman is supposed to be I’m beyond the ability to redeem myself. But I don’t want to redeem myself, because in the cultural sense I believe that I’m just before my time. And if you don’t like it, wear an ear condom.”

  54. I find alot of people keep on saying this song is just to push boundaries and its too much about religion, but if you actually read what it is about, you will see that is not the case.

I also like the fact that an artist should be able to borrow from their past material, experiment with it, and make it stronger.

    Just my thoughts.

  55. I think Brad & Jason & JPH are the same person under different names, cos they are overly defensive about gaga and attack people who think otherwise.

Duh.. see I can also throw wild theories like that.

But only the owners of this blog can know for sure, cos they can see IP addresses regardless of names used… so… another fail for you guys i’m afraid.

Judas/Bad Romance & BTW/Express Yourself is all over the internet, anywhere you check. Youtube, Billboard, Rolling Stone to name a few. Half of people on this post also think so. Kinda odd, isn’t it. It’s not just 1 or 2. It’s millions.

  56. @Nex – hardly millions – lol.

She is selling more singles and radio is playing her more than ever.

And now reputable magazie has ever said they are rip-offs or that she has stolen the songs. They may hint that they are similar and borrow from here and there, but they never claim they are riffs.

Remember 10-15 people on ManhuntDaily does not equate to what is really happening. Digital Downloads, Physical Sales, and Radio Play speak for themselves. Gaga is huge with all of this. So when it comes to the music buying public, there are more Gaga supporters than haters. You can’t argue against the numbers!

  57. BTW @nex, I thought you were too mature to post anything else on this topic:

“i’m out of this childish argument. blind gaga fans would call her a unique artist and a talented performer even if she goes on stage farting into a microphone. i’m not one of those people, so forgive me for pointing out the truth. bye.”

Or was that someone trying to be you?

  58. You know, Justin Beiber is also famous and so is Rebecca Black. Popularity isn’t a golden standard.

@Chris, i meant childish argument with u, not the whole post. Imagination, as always.

And yes millions. There are even parodies about that. If that doesn’t proof anything, I dont know what does. Cant stop laughing everytime I watch this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFvE9D3zMfY

  59. you what is your problem? as soon as someone says something harsh about gaga you turn it around on britney for some reason. it doesn’t really work like that. i’m not britney.

yes, seems like she used a body double. shame on her. the parodies were cheap and not funny and weren’t really proving anything. i posted my link, however, to illustrate my point that there are so many people out there who think that BTW is Express Yourself remix. not to mention Alejandro and now Judas. your links are irrelevant though.

i think it’s much better singing someone else’s songs rather than ripping-off other people’s stuff and calling it your own. i think everyone will agree on this.

(btw, do u even know what a rip-off means? how is using a body double a rip-off?)

  60. OH nex nex nex.

You do the exact same thing when someone attacks Britney.

People want to see Britney. They want to hear her sing. Using a body-double and lip-synching is the exact same thing as a rip off. Did the body double get credit? Does her name appear anywhere on the video credits? No of course not. She is ripping off her fans by using a body double and not singing.

The parodies I showed just show how lame her music is sounding these days. All she is really is bubble gum fluff.

  61. Next week:

    Roxette – Speak To Me
Stevie Nicks – Cheaper Than Free

I think you should preview these in aural only and see what peeps think.

There was a comment awhile ago about debuting songs too early and that getting rid of 4 songs every week is too much. I agree. The 4 debuts 9 times out of 10 tank, as does the wildcard entry.

You should keep 6 songs, save 1, and put 3 new ones on.

Also give songs at least a few days before putting them on the countdown. This is the reason why you always bring back songs. Katy, BEP, Kesha, Jlo, Rihanna etc have all debuted too early. They fall off, then people start listening to em and u bring them back. Wait awhile. Do more aural only segments and get the feel of songs.

  62. heard of body doubles in movies? that’s someone’s job. there’s nothing unusual about it. she is not ripping off anyone. however, copying someone’s song, putting some mad lyrics over it and calling it your own is a rip off and also illegal on intellectual property grounds. so eat it.

  63. Sorry to disappoint you, Nex, but I am not Jason or Chris. I am myself. And you should stop picking up fights for something so insignificant like Gaga’s or Britney’s music. At this rate you will have to get your own blog because obviously you can’t take any criticism without hitting back in a vicious way. How ’bout Nexhuntdaily as the name of your blog. I promise I’ll follow you, seriously.

  64. @JPH i was just illustrating the point to Brad that anyone can accuse anyone of being someone else. didn’t you see me put ” see I can also throw wild theories like that.” what’s wrong with you people…

  65. I also like the new Beastie Boys song. That would add some more genres to this countdown.

But seriously, you need to have more Aural Only spotlights on here.

  66. I agree with you, but it was fitting for the above poster. He clearly doesn’t think any of those artists are talented simply because of the type of music they make. It’s pretty obvious that he feels superior to people who listen to mainstream pop since none of the 10 artists mentioned above has any a talent.

In my opinion making fun catchy pop songs is also a talent, that many other artists don’t have. And this is why I like these artist. Not everyone is delusional and a puppet, some of us really do enjoy pop music and those who don’t have nothing to feel superior about,

  67. Congrats Rihanna for being #1 on Billboard.

Congrats Gaga for debuting at #10 after only 2.5 days of release.

Congrats Katy for continuing gaining popularity on airplay. Last weeks #1 on Billboard, now #2.

Congrats to the BEP for holding at #3 with Just Can’t Get Enough. This site showed you no love, but the public and myself love you and this song.

Can’t wait to see what happens next week with the new (but not good) Beyonce song, and with Gaga having a full week of sales and airplay. Should be interesting!

    Happy Wednesday Everyone!

    🙂

  68. @Ryan, you forgot to congratulate Britney. Cos Billboard credited her on the song. Lets face it, she wouldn’t have got to number 1 without her. 108% increase in digital sales (66% of them for remix), when the airplay stayed the same and katy almost equalled her on radio.

Next week predictions: Katy returns to number 1. Gaga reached top 3.

Not sure if Beyonce releases her new song at all. Not everyone rush releases songs after leaks.

  69. I just don’t get Britney at all. Ke$ha shoulda kept that song for herself.
Voted for the Gagas and E.T.

  70. I wish songs would stop leaking.

I really think it hurt Till The World Ends and Judas. Both artists you could tell were very upset at this. Whoever leaks songs is just as bad as illegally downloading them.

I think if both TTWE and Judas would have been released as scheduled, both songs would have debuted better. It’s a shame. At least TTWE rebounded for a tiny bit then, and I think Gaga will be fine, but still.

If Beyonce pushes her song forward, I think the leaking of her song will have negative effects too.

  71. Yes, the whole leaking business has dramatic effect on sales, but something tells me that both Judas and TTWE were planned leaks by their own teams. They were just trying to pull off BTW round 2. Britney’s team confident by HIAM success & BTW success, and Gaga team confident by BTW record breaking 3-day success. If Gaga waited till tuesday and released it as planned, she’d most certainly debut at no.1, now I’m not sure it will ever get there. Airplay is definitely behind at the moment and sales will fade off by the time airplay catches up, unless she manages to sell really a lot of copies this weak, cos Katy ain’t giving up no.1 position so easily.

  72. I actually think both leaks were out of the artists’ control.

Billboard interviewed Gaga and she said the following (I warn you it is melodramatic, but you can tell she is being truthful):

“Lady Gaga is devastated over her songs leaking online.

Her latest single, “Judas,” was rushed out last Friday after it leaked online.

“‘Judas’ is leaking, it’s like a slow death,” she said on her GagaVision YouTube channel Wednesday. “They [the leaks] were tearing at the song, first it was the arm and then it was the liver.”

I remember Britney having a similar interview with sirious but I cannot seem to find it. She seemed equally upset with TTWE.

Hopefully both artists will keep a tight lip of the next singles they release. I find both of them to be amazing artists with alot of offer to music in 2011.

  73. it’s just odd that those songs got an odd habit of leaking on friday mornings ^_^

songs been leaking early for years and years…
i think they are just making a good use of twitter.

those ppl who download illegal music do it anyway regardless of the song being released 3 days earlier or 3 days later. they won’t be motivated to buy it if it was available as soon as it leaked. they’d still go for illegal one.

at the same time, the artists won’t lose that much if the leak indeed hurt the sales. would gaga or britney be really upset if those 100.000 people that bough their records in 3 days actually downloaded it illegally? that’s like a drop in the see for multi-million selling singles.

also those early buyers are usually die hard fans who would have bought the legal song anyway after it was released even if they got the illegal version earlier.

    that’s how i see it.

  74. how on earth did sahara devenport suddenly got from less than 1% to 8% in less than a day? looool.

  75. i dont think you can vote here more than once, cos it is probably ip/cookie protected, but i think someone is cheating for ms.devenport. never heard of her anyway.

  76. Sahara posted on her twitter for everyone to come here & vote for her which is why she’s gone up so quickly.

  77. Obviously my point was misunderstood. I’m not against the “norm” and far from a “Hipster” In fact I quite enjoy pop music, I just prefer artists who are talented. Have you heard Britney sing live, and by live, I mean actually sing, not lip-sync?
And I don’t quite understand how you can say that I’m acting superior to anyone by my comments.

  78. lol. that’s funny. explains the results though. bit cheap, but oh well as long as she is not leading, cos that song is hideous.

i wonder what would happen if britney or gaga posted to their 7-9 million followers. this website will probably crash. and the results would be like 99% for one of them vs 0.1-0.3% for the rest of the competition. loool.

  79. Yeah the song is awful + she also got manila to tweet about it twice & manila has like double the amount of followers….
Manila tweeted: Move over Gaga! Move over BritBrit! SAHARA IS PUMPING THRU!!!
lol she’s clearly not pumping all the way through though! it’ll take much more than that to get ahead of miss spears. 🙂

  80. not sure who is manilla to be honest, but i hope dewitt eliminates this song next week. it shouldn’t have been here in first place as he said it himself.

  81. I have heard Britney sing live, live without auto tune and I happen to love her raspy breathy vocals, it fits her style of pop music perfectly. Its all a matter of opinion, you cannot claim someone isn’t talented because again thats an opinion that others might not share.
