Weekly Top Ten: Can Katy Make A Comeback?

Reactions were mixed on the departure of Katy Perry‘s “Firework” from our Weekly Top Ten charts. While some of us were thrilled to see it go, a good portion of readers expressed their disapproval on its hasty exit. Were we wrong to not save it on last week’s countdown? Well, it doesn’t really matter–we’re bringing this shit back for you.

Meanwhile, Pink‘s doing her best to stave off a tag-team attack from Darren Criss and Cher. Although she’s still occupying the number one spot with “Raise Your Glass”, there could definitely be trouble in the near future…

Speaking of trouble, a few lovely artists didn’t make the cut for this week’s rankings. We hope you weren’t too attached to Robyn, Mike Posner, Kelis, Bruno Mars or Erika Jayne. They didn’t bring in enough votes, so we had to send them packing!

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, jerk your cock to Cayden Ross while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

– Dewitt

To check out the charts and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Pink – Raise Your Glass (LW – 1, W10): Unless she gets voted off, Pink still has five more weeks on the charts. There’s a chance she could maintain her position for all five of those weeks, provided this song doesn’t leak before its scheduled release date. Either way, we wish her luck!
  2. Glee Cast – Teenage Dream (LW – 3, W4): Vote as hard as you can for this track, because this is the last time we’re including anything from Glee on the countdown. No matter how good their versions are, it’s upsetting to watch them beat original songs by talented artists. Hell, it’s even upsetting to watch them beat not-so-original songs by terrible artists.
  3. Cher – You Haven’t Seen The Last of Me (LW – 2, W3): Oddly enough, this is the last you’ll see of Burlesque on these charts. As much as we respect Christina’s vocal talent, she already had her chance with “But I Am A Good Girl”. Whether you like it or not, this is Cher’s moment to shine. Embrace the power ballad.
  4. Rihanna – Only Girl (In The World) (LW – 5, W13): Oh snap! Our girl Rihanna is holding things down in the number four spot. This is her thirteenth week on the countdown, which means there are only two more weeks before she’s retired! Word on the street is that “Raining Men” has been selected as the album’s urban single. While it probably won’t perform as well as this dance jam, you can expect to see it here upon its release.
  5. Kylie Minogue – Better Than Today (LW – 7, W2): All things considered, this is a relatively weak debut for Ms. Minogue. Isn’t she supposed to be the queen of the gay dancefloor? Your enthusiasm seems to have waned since “All The Lovers” and “Get Outta My Way”. Perhaps this was the wrong single choice…
  6. Katy Perry – Firework (RETURN): Katy Perry’s album Teenage Dream just received a Grammy nomination for Album of The Year. Before you proceed to vomit in your mouth, take into consideration that Justin Bieber got two nominations as well. The Grammy Awards are so credible right now!
  7. Natasha Bedingfield – Strip Me (DEBUT): Leave it to Ryan Tedder–the man who gave practically the same track to Beyonce and Kelly Clarkson–to produce the most generic Natasha Bedingfield song we’ve ever heard. We still love this bitch, but we hope her next single has a little more punch.
  8. Fantasia – I’m Doin’ Me (DEBUT): Contrary to popular belief, this isn’t a song about making a replica of your dick and sticking it up your own hole. But if it were? It’d be an awesome anthem for Pierre Fitch or Brent Everett. Life is not a fairytale… until a mold of your penis is mass-produced.
  9. Linkin Park – Waiting For The End (WILD CARD): Hold the fucking phone! There’s a rock song on our Weekly Top Ten? With their latest single, Linkin Park steps in as this week’s underdog. Let’s see if you’ll vote them into the next round!
  10. Natalia Kills – Mirrors (DEBUT): The sad truth is that Natalia Kills doesn’t stand a chance against her competition. Her name isn’t as immediately recognizable as the rest of today’s contestants, and she received mixed reviews when we posted this video. Of course, stranger things have happened! Maybe she’ll surprise us?

  1. come on, support cher
pink is already no.1 on billboard 100
cher is unlikely to get there
    lets support her here bois

  2. I didn’t realize the Weekly Top Ten was runs by fascists.

Could someone explain the point in voting in an election that is controlled by a set group of people anyway? Why even bother casting votes for someone like Katy Perry or the Glee Cast, both of whom are extremely talented and make excellent music, if the people who run the polls already vow to get rid of it, saying things like, “…this is the last time we’re including anything from Glee on the countdown,” or “it doesn’t really matter–we’re bringing this shit back for you.”

If this is a popularity contest, no single vote matters more than another, including that of those who run this poll. I usually agree with most of what is said on this blog, but I can’t stand behind rigging a poll meant to show popularity of music amongst its voters.

  3. Finally a Top 10 that contains three songs I can vote for without hating myself afterward. While I liked California Gurls & Teenage Dream, I just can’t get with Firework. I dig the song’s whole “you’re awesome no matter what other people say about you” vibe. But the lyrics? “Boom, boom boom…even higher than the moon, moon, moon” Really, Katy?! Most of the other songs that made the cut from last week’s Top 10 just don’t do anything for me.

I do like Cher’s new song. But I know she’ll get enough votes to survive, so I didn’t bother voting for her. This time around, I went with Fantasia, Linkin Park, & Natasha Bedingfield. All three are excellent songs and much better than any of the songs that made the cut from last week’s chart. Yes, Strip Me is generic as hell. But it’s a vast improvement over that mess, Touch. Now, I’m not naive. I know none of these three songs are actually going to make the Top 5 based on votes. But thanks for posting a few decent songs for consideration this week. 🙂 Maybe you’ll be nice and use the save on one of them. And if you do, Fantasia would be my preference. It’s been a long time since there’s been any R&B in the Top 10. (Please don’t anyone insult the genre by trying to say that Rihanna counts as R&B.)

  4. Agreed with Curtis. No point in polling us, Dewitt. “We’re bringing this shit back” equates to “Oh shit they noticed”.

  5. Natalia Kills, Rihanna and Kylie this week. No suggestions as Dewitt is having strict guidelines now and doesn’t want to consider what we like. Viva the dictatorship. Lol.

  6. I don’t get why RiRi’s “What’s My Name” didn’t take off here. It’s far superior to “Only Girl.” I wish “Man Down” could be her next single but I know there’s no chance of that happening since it’s pretty out of left field and violent.

The arrangement of the Glee version of Teenage Dream is pretty horrendous even by Glee standards, and the use autotune in it is pretty jarring.

  7. grammy nominations are ridiculous, i agree with u.
gone are the days when the likes of norah jones rightfully received the nominations.
now it’s the ones that make the most noise.
    eminem? justin bieber? katy perry?
    none of them deserves one.

  8. What a strong supporter of the democratic process you are. I sure hope you call your Senator and Congressman with the same fanaticism that this message has.

  9. Because polling MH’s Blog by which the votes can easily be manipulated via anonymity, administration control, etc have the same applications in the real world voting process.

FAILED ANALOGY party of 1: your table is ready

  10. I voted for Kylie, Katy and Natalia.

I agree that this particular Kylie single isn’t the strongest, but I have a feeling her collaboration with Tao Cruz ‘Higher’ will be on here soon and doing much better.

I do agree with the other comments though… You gotta stop dissin’ the music we like, Dewitt!

  11. I think you should give a listen to “Stereo Love” by Edward Maya ft. Alicia. It is a fantastic song. Great dance song but with beautiful lyrics.

I also think that we should give “We R Who We R” by Kesha another chance now that there is a cool video for it.

I also like “Grace” by Bran Van 3000

  12. I don’t understand why there is so much hate for Katy Perry. I love Teenage Dream… every song on that album has me either rocking in my car or dancing on the dance floor. I think someone’s just being overly critical.

  13. Pink, Rihanna, Katy for me.

I also think that since a new vid is out for kesha’s we r who we r, it should be given a 2nd chance.

Other than that, I would throw 100% support behind Stereo Love by Edward Maya and Alicia. It is the perfect workout song and club song.

  14. Dewitt, I have to say you are a douche bag, plain and simple, I don’t understand why you bother to put up songs that you don’t like. Or choose to remind us over and over and over and over and over and over…am I sounding a little repetative, take it as a hint, that a song doesn’t have any merit to it lyrically. There’s a lot of songs throughout the years that the lyrics are stupid as hell but yet they are fun to listen to. So stfu.

  16. Dewitt, stop being so dramatic about your dislike for certain singers. The point of the vote is to express what we like, not what you like. Why don’t you stop bitching and in the meantime bring back “Higher” by Taio Cruz and Kylie Minogue? Thank you!

  18. Great idea, Rob. I see Kylie in 6th place and don’t wanna hear on Saturday that Fantasia was saved instead, LOL.

  19. I am very happy to see Firework back on the chart! 🙂

My other votes went to Teenage Dream and I’m Doing Me.
