Weekly Top Ten: Attack of The Blondes

There are a few notable things about today’s Weekly Top Ten countdown. For starters, Britney Spears has predictably moved into the number one spot. And to celebrate this occasion, we’ve selected four new contestants who have one thing in common with the “Hold It Against Me” singer. Yup, they’re all blondes! At least with hair dye, that is…

But wait a second, because that’s not all! We’re also conducting an experiment and changing the rules for a day. For this round, we’re letting you vote once for as many options as you’d like. If this goes well, we might make a permanent change to the original rules. And, no, we will not be applying the same rule to The Ten. That’s a whole other world, you know?

Last but not least, we should take into consideration a few recognizable names who didn’t make the cut. Ricky Martin, Taylor Swift, Kanye West and Avril Lavigne (in order of most support to least) all failed to receive enough votes to stay on the charts, so we had to send them packing!

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, play a game of poker with Alex Marte while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three any that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

– Dewitt

To check out the charts and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Britney Spears – Hold It Against Me (LW – 6, W2): Is it wrong that we’re already tired of this song? Kidding, kidding! Once the Jonas Akerlund-directed video for this jam drops, all of the boys and all of the girls will be begging… Well, they’ll just be downloading this on iTunes or something. Congrats to Ms. Spears on another number one hit!
  2. Katy Perry – Firework (LW – 2, W8): Apparently, people get upset when I make fun of Katy Perry. But have you noticed that my bitchy comments haven’t prevented her from staying on the charts?  If it weren’t for Britney, she would have undoubtedly been selected as this week’s number one song…
  3. Adele – Rolling In The Deep (LW – 1, W7): The early leaks from Adele’s upcoming album 21 have proven to be just as good as “Rolling In The Deep”, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that she’ll make a more substantial crossover to the US market. Seriously, why is her voice so fucking amazing?
  4. Florence + The Machine – Dog Days Are Over (LW – 3, W5): If you’re anything like me, you break out into interpretative dances whenever you hear this song. Okay, so maybe I don’t actually do this, but I’m always dancing in my head when this comes on. Florence Welch is the truth, y’all.
  5. Cher – You Haven’t Seen The Last of Me (LW – 4, W10): In case you missed it, Diane Warren just picked up a Golden Globe for writing this epic power ballad. Cher couldn’t make it because she was performing in Vegas. Either that, or she was covering herself in glitter and being generally incredible. We’re not sure.
  6. David Guetta f/ Rihanna – Who’s That Chick? (LW – 8, W1): Rihanna may sound like a total space alien on this dance track, but there’s still no resisting Guetta’s thumping beat. Of course, we still don’t understand what a “crazy dita” is. Is she making a reference to Dita Von Teese? Is it her slang word for Doritos? Can someone please clarify this matter before we stalk down Rihanna and ask her ourselves?
  7. Pink – Fuckin’ Perfect (DEBUT): Shortly after we debuted this song on Manhunt Daily, the video made its way to the internet. Spoiler alert! It’s pretty damn intense, and a few folks have lashed out against the darker tone. Head over here to read Pink’s reaction to the controversy.
  8. Stevie Nicks – Secret Love (DEBUT): Confession time! One of my old fuck buddies used to play Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours every time I came over, mostly because it was the one record we could both agree on. As a result, I get a little turned on every time I hear Stevie Nicks’ voice. So, um, does anyone want to make out and listen to “Secret Love” on repeat?
  9. Kimberly Caldwell – Desperate Girls & Stupid Boys (WILD CARD): Kimberly received over half of the votes in our Wild Card round, and twice as many votes as this week’s runner-up Crystal Castles. Long story short? You can call this song “crappy” all you’d like, but it won’t change the fact that people are totally digging it!
  10. Ellie Goulding – Lights (DEBUT): We’re worried about this tune’s chances on the charts. Goulding has yet to break into the American mainstream market, so we’ll have to depend on our UK readers to keep her around. What do you think–does “Lights” deserve to be here?

  1. I decided to increase my votes from three to four this week since we were allowed to. 🙂

Katy Perry and Firework, of course got the first one! It’s still the best song out there to encourage kids to believe in themselves and accept who they are – realizing that nobody is perfect. And that’s OK!

Others went to Adele because it really is a great song, Stevie Nicks because she’s all around awesome and Kimberly Caldwell gets one because season 10 of American Idol just started and it’s my favorite show.

  2. I liked Pink’s new song when I first heard it on the radio, but now that the video has come out I absolutely love it!

  3. I liked Pink’s new song when I first heard it on the radio, but now that the video has come out I absolutely love it!

  4. am i the only one with absolutely ZERO interest in the new britney song? does absolutely nothing for me – and i usually love her stuff

  5. I’m glad I could vote for as many song as I like. That way I could actually vote for Britney although she doesn’t any votes since she’s here to stay for a while. I love Cher, Adele and even Katy Perry (whose show I’ll see in June).

My suggestion for the Wild Card is “Like U Like” by Aggro Santos feat Kimberly Walsh. She is part of Girls Aloud along with Cheryl Cole and Nadine Coyle and this is her first venture into doing some music on her own.

  6. Agreed, Rob. I loved the song anyway, and just watched the video. I wanted to cry like a little girl. It’s shocking…in a good way.

  7. Britney!!!!!!

    Cher!

    Florence!

+ Pink (since we can do more than 3)

    It’s a fair change.
Sometimes u can just vote for all songs except for stuff u hate, e.g. Firework.

  8. OMG. looks like Pink might get to number 1 next week.
why on earth did i vote for her.
dewitt, take away 1 vote from her, plz :)))

  9. I voted for 7 songs since we are allowed to do so this week. By the way, Cher is #1 on the Billboard Dance Club Play Chart this week and becomes the first artist to have at least one #1 song in a Billboard chart in the last six decades.

Suggestion for the Wild Card next week is the new Ladytron single “Ace of Hz”. There’s even a Tiesto remix out there. I also like the suggestion for the Aggro Santos song with the Girls Aloud chick.

  10. Next Weeks Suggestions:

Martin Solveig ft. Dragonette – Hello
Jennifer Lopez – On The Floor
    Chris Brown – Yeah x 3

  11. Sorry, from the UK and still not voting for Ellie. And certainly not interested in that Aggro Santos track, either. I know Hurts have never done well on this chart, even with a Freemasons remix, but their next single, Sunday, could maybe do the trick? Far more upbeat than the past.

  12. I love the new Ladytron song. I also like S&M by Rihanna. The remixes by Dave Aude, Joe Bermudez and Sidney Samson are already out and she just finished filming the video last week. The only reason I liked the Aggro Santos song is because of Kimberly Walsh. She was always my favorite Girl Aloud.

  13. I have to agree with Chris!

    I love love love:
Martin Solveig ft. Dragonette – Hello

I love (except for the Pitbull part):
Jennifer Lopez – On The Floor

    I really like:
    Chris Brown – Yeah x 3

Where is the love for Rihanna`s “Who`s that Chick`it is one of the best pop songs out right now.

it is also a shame that stevie nicks isnt going to make it. what a great song
