Weekly Top Ten: Adele Rolls Out On Top

Every journey must come to an end. After fifteen weeks on the countdown, Adele‘s “Rolling In The Deep” will officially be retired from our Weekly Top Ten. Though she may be able to keep her hold on the top spot with second single “Someone Like You”, rival tunes by Britney Spears and Lady Gaga won’t make it easy for her.

Frankly, it’s not really easy for anyone on these charts! Rihanna has been ousted after six weeks of “S&M”, while fellow big-name artists Usher and Katy Perry failed to make much of an impact. Meanwhile, up-and-coming star Wynter Gordon came in dead last with only thirty-four votes, despite the fact that she specifically wrote a song for the LGBT community. Ouch.

So how does this all work? If you’re a Weekly Top Ten virgin, slap Justin Long‘s ass while I explain the rules to you. Each week you’ll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for any and all that you’d like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we’ll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week’s charts.

Wishing there was a “none of the above” option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it’ll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

– Dewitt

To check out the charts and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Adele – Rolling In The Deep (LW – 1, W15, RETIRED): As much as we love “Rolling In The Deep”, it was becoming a bit too much for her to have two songs on the charts. Eep! What are we going to do when she officially releases her third single “Set Fire To The Rain”? Is she just going to dominate everyone else forever?
  2. Adele – Someone Like You (LW – 3, W3): While it’s quite likely that “Someone Like You” will move into the top position, we’re not placing any bets that it’ll last there for another twelve weeks. Alas, stranger things have happened! We’ll always be rooting for Adele, no matter what.
  3. Britney Spears – Till The World Ends (LW – 4, W3): That’s more like it! The votes on Britney’s “Till The World Ends” have been picking up, as we move closer to the video premiere on April 6. Have you been a bad boy and illegally downloaded a copy of Femme Fatale? If so, we have no choice but to spank you roughly while plowing you from behind. Sorry, dude! We have explicit orders from the RIAA…
  4. Lady Gaga – Born This Way (LW – 2, W6): My momma told me when I was young that y’all bitches should vote for this song. The weird and entirely nonsensical battle between Gaga and Britney continues, as Ms. Spears moves one space ahead of “Mother Monster”. Let’s see if she can bounce back!
  5. Jennifer Lopez f/ Pitbull – On The Floor (LW – 8, W2): Call it a comeback. The American Idol judge and all-around diva bounces back with her latest single. We’re not sure if it was sheer repetition or the glamorous video that won you over, but we’re not complaining either way. This jam has grown on us.
  6. Pink – Fuckin’ Perfect (LW – 5, W9): There’s good news and bad news for Pink. The good news? If she keeps receiving the same amount of votes, Adele’s exit should allow her to keep this song on the charts. The bad news? The next two competitors on the list have potential to ruin her chances.
  7. Black Eyed Peas – Just Can’t Get Enough (DEBUT): When it all comes down to it, this song was largely overshadowed by the video’s Tokyo scenery, as the tragic disaster in Japan continues to be on everyone’s mind. Even so, several folks who aren’t fans of the Peas admitted to liking this one! And it’s definitely a step up from “The Time (The Dirty Bit)”.
  8. Glee Cast – Loser Like Me (DEBUT): In the past, we made a promise to never feature another song from Glee on this list. That was before it was announced that the cast would be doing original songs… Ultimately, this countdown is about the people. We can talk shit about a song all we want, but your votes determine who stays and who goes.
  9. Afrojack f/ Eva Simons – Take Over Control (WILD CARD): The fact that we didn’t even realize this song is “old” shows how much we know about the dance music scene. Afrojack and Eva Simons probably don’t have enough clout to slip their way into the top five, so you’ll need to vote extra hard to keep this one around. Heh, extra hard.
  10. Acid House Kings – Would You Say Stop? (DEBUT): This song will not make it past this round. So why the hell are we including it? Because we need some different sounds on the charts. “Would You Say Stop?” is super poppy without the hard-hitting dance beats. An excellent slice of indie-pop!

  1. not nearly as many to vote for this week compared to last week…

Rolling In the Deep is gone, Hold It Against me is gone, ET is gone…..

So that left my votes this week to go to Born This Way, On The Floor and my most enthusiastic vote went to Loser Like Me. 🙂

  2. I thought Hell No was better than Loser Like Me…. And it’s Mercedes. You should consider adding that one…. And Set Fire to the Rain is amazing, so it’s getting my vote the moment it shows up here.

  3. Pink doesn’t have to leave the countdown just yet. Since Rolling in the deep is retiring, why don’t you just include 4 new songs next week instead of 5? That way Fuckin’ Perfect gets to stay another week.

Suggestion for the Wild Card next week is Kick Us Out by Hyper Crush. They sound generic and almost Ke$ha clones, but it’s time to include more happy music here instead of the usual pro-gay anthems of Katy Perry, Gaga or Wynter Gordon.

  4. TOTALLY agree. I’ve had “Hell to the No” stuck in my head all day. It’s catchy as…well…hell, and it’s I like the music better.

  5. It’s pop epic for sure, even though i dislike a few songs. but it’s very light and consistent start to finish.
i hope I wanna go will be her 3rd single

  6. Adele rocks. So do Britney and Gaga. I hope Pink gets to stay longer in the countdown. Suggestions for the Wild Card are:

    – George Michael: True Faith (a cover of the New order song and also a charity single for Comic Relief in the UK this year)
    – Mary Mary: Walking. OK, they are gospell, but Karmatronic and Dave Aude released great dance remixes of this song and they have a following in the club scene.

  7. Coming back to Born This Way being Express Yourself rip-off…

The week that gaga released BTW, Madonna team uploaded live performance of Express Yourself to her youtube channel.

Just now I checked Madonna.com and guess what video is streaming automatically on the front page? Yes, Express Yourself. I lol’ed!

Clearly gaga lied about receiving ‘blessings’ from Madonna team.

  8. @Nex – we know u hate born this way – enough already – stop ur bitchin – we get it. we have heard you for 5 weeks now! perhaps Madonna has the video uploaded to give her (madonna) more hype and catch how massive born this way actually is. You may not like born this way, but u r in the very few minority. It has spent 5 weeks at #1 on Billboard (only the 2nd song in history to debut at #1 and spend that long). So what does that mean? It means people are buying the single like crazy, downloading it like mad, and radio is playing it all the time.

You may hate it, but the consumers love it.

P.S. This Adele song is BORING and LAME! She has a great voice, but this song is a snoozefest!

  9. @Nathan I’m not hating on it. It’s a great song. I like it, maybe even love it. I just don’t like the whole madonna rip-off part. I dont like that she lied about receiving blessings. I think the video is stupid. And I really love the parody they made. It’s a lot of fun. Bringing truth to the people doesn’t count as hating. Tell me where I showed any hate?

  10. I hope the Black Eyed Peas pull through – great song.

The Britney song really really is really bad – haha. It is just bad! I have heard the album is amazing, so I have my fingers crossed. I love love love Britney, but her 1st 2 songs are awful.

I love PINK! I hope she hangs on. I also love GAGA, I think Born This Way is the song of the year so far.

I do not like the Adele song. I am shocked it is #1. It really isnt a good song. I saw the appeal of Rolling in the Deep, but this new song – there is nothin to it.

Alyssa Reid – Alone Again is amazing. I had a lot of trouble finding it cuz I think it is Canadian, but I finally found it on muchmore.ca (the Canadian MTV), and it is finally on youtube!

  11. Another fantastic song is:

    Kristina Maria – Let’s Play

-check out the 2 hot guys in bed with her wrestling together with her. Is this a bisexual encounter maybe? The guys are hot!

  12. @Mel

looks like black eyed peas fail so far, only 7th place with ~5% of the votes. Dewitt will probably kick it, but then put it on wild card in a few weeks.

adele is not no.1 at the moment. britney is. adele no.2. lets see if it stays that way.

pink is looking safe to stay. with 12% of the votes she currently occupies the 4th spot.

sorry if i just spoiled the next week’s chart for u. we’ll have to wait and see if it stays that way.

  13. let’s play by kristina maria is an awesome song. i am gonna go listen to it on my run – its already on my ipod.

the guys are actually hot in the vid and it kinda elludes to a possible 3some…or maybe they are a couple and she is their “friend.”

  14. Kristina Maria is from Montreal. She’s kinda the next best thing in Canada. My suggestion for this week’s countdown is What a feeling by Alex Gaudino feat. Kelly Rowland. I know, another dance track from Kelendria, but she should just realize that her future is in the club scene and not doing silly hop hop collaborations with rappers like the new Nelly single, “Gone”.
