Wait, Jersey Shore Is Actually A Real Show?

Jerseyshore

MTV is seriously punking us with this promo for Jersey Shore, right? The show will allegedly take us into New Jersey shore-houses full of the "hottest, tannest, craziest Guidos". When I first saw the ad, I assumed that it was a spoof of MTV's similarly ridiculous programming. But it's not. It's really not.

New Jersey is often the butt of the joke, and I even think many residents are self-aware enough to get in on the joke. But based off of this promo alone, I honestly think this show seems offensive. The individuals shown here are complete caricatures of Italian-American stereotypes. Sure, you will see people like this on the Jersey Shore, but they don't single-handedly represent it.

I can't even handle drivel like this on a "guilty pleasure" level, so I sure as hell won't be tuning in for this. But how about you? Will you be watching this show when it airs?

  1. Jersey Shore, Jersey Shore.
Bwahahahaha, I thought that shit was a joke too!
I’ll definitely be watching. Should be hilarious.

  2. Some People actually live up 2 the stereotypical image. I hope they do so but n a funny way and yes I am going 2 watch ( at least the 1st 2 episodes ).

  3. Certainly not all southern Californians lived up to the “90210” image or the “Melrose Place” image, nor are all single women in New York like the sluts of “Sex and the City”. Not all African-American families were like either the Cosbys or the Evanses of “Good Times”.
It is a *television show*, meant to be entertaining. And a stereotype is little more than a character meant to stand in for all similarly siutated individuals; the big question is always “are they intended to be individual characters or just representatives of their group?” Frankly, it’s a question I seldom ask since what matters to me is whether it’s entertaining or not.

  4. America is getting this much closer to realizing the Idiocracy it is destined to become. Thanks MTV for contributing this “entertainment” drivel.

  5. I am a born n raised Jersey Boy that lives here on the shore. The characters shown in this promo clip 100% definitely are a part of summertime here- we call them BENNYS. Fortunately, they are a small and shortlived part of a an awesome place to live ! Will watch a couple of episodes just for a laugh.

  6. these new-generation Italian-Americans are scaring me.
    these Guidos, and Guidas.
they seem to stream-line all the malfeasance and shennanigans of their forebears, all while adding their own twists to the established formula.
(i’m surprised i didn’t recognize their existence earlier.. ..but i guess i was hoping, deep down, such antics would die out with the baby boomers.)
