Up And Cummer: Rhys Wakefield

So, I finally got around to seeing Sanctum last weekend. It was a well-done, entertaining flick. Leave it to Cameron to take us to the edge of an eye orgasm with his sweeping, innovative and epic camerawork. You should see it for this reason alone but in case you need another, oh my God, who’s this Rhys Wakefield and where has he been all my life?

Oh right, he wasn’t born for most of my life. He’s a respectable age now, though, and I can’t think of a better way to distract myself from the still-sore-subject of Heath Ledger‘s untimely death. The 22 year-old Australian-born actor bears a slight physical resemblance to Ledger (I’m sure most of you will argue), but add to that a similar athletic build and gushes of boyish charm and the connection can’t be missed.

Heath, I’ll miss you forever but thanks, Hollywood, for slipping in a newcomer to shine in his place. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this boy wonder from down under. With a few new movies coming out in 2012, he’s one to keep an eye on.

  1. If you’re taken with him, check out The Black Balloon. He plays a young guy dealing with a severely autistic brother. No Rain Man crap. It also stars Toni Collette.
