My personal philosophy about strip clubs, which you are welcome to disagree with, is that the straight ones are always better, because the point of strip clubs should be to titillate and not to provide instant gratification. (Instant gratification: that’s what the internet is for.) And honestly I’d much rather be in a room full of horny but unapproachable straight dudes—forty-ish biker types with dramatic mustaches, say— than a room where everybody’s focused on one or two guys that are trying to give you the hard sell or a handjob in the basement or whatever.
Anyway, if you’re wondering what any of this has to do with the video for Thee Oh Sees new single “Lupine Dominus,” or why I’m posting about this video at all, um, watch it and wait for the ending.

I’ve been a big fan of Thee Oh Sees for a couple years now. They’ve been around forever, but actually, I didn’t know about them until they passed through town a couple of years ago and played at a local bar. (A local gay bar, now that I think about it…) They’re one of the few bands, I think, that are equally good live and in recorded form, and they release a lot of music. A lot.
I wish that real-life strip clubs actually played music like this, because this kind of song gets me way more riled up than hearing classic nineties rock, today’s hip-hop radio hits, or house remixes of pop songs, which are the only three genres I really ever hear on my, uh, very infrequent visits to these sorts of adult establishments.

first the gay strip bars – better ones – in Montreal are the classiest acts in North America. You’ve never lived until you spent an evening with friends there! Or solo.
