From Shortbus to I Want Your Love, I’m a sucker for films that toe the line between art and pornography, so it’s no surprise that I’m drawn to Portuguese filmmaker Antonio Da Silva‘s Mates. The short film was recently brought to my attention by BUTT, and now I’m kind of obsessed with seeing the final product. Here’s a description:
“Mates is a home made explicitly gay sex story about contemporary gay experience. It is a film about ‘real life’, anonymous bodies using online flirting, spontaneous random brief encounters, pornography, social media, hyperconnectivity, etc. We are a generation of people who will, for better or worse, probably have naked pictures on the Internet, or homemade sex videos on our smartphones at some point in our lives.”
Translation: It’s a bunch of hot amateur guys fucking one another’s brains out. YES PLEASE.

Saw both those movies you mentioned and LOVED them! What a concept! Have a movie where instead of semi-clad bodies hidden by conveniently placed lamps/flowerpots, sheets or what not…just have the people naked. I watched an anniversary documentary about DEEP THROAT a couple of years ago. One of the commentators mentioned that back in the 70’s directors and artists were hoping to merge the two mediums..regular movies and porn. In this project I used a hidden camera to capture sexual interactions between bankers in a public restroom during their lunch break. No words, just signs, few body sounds, it is a choreography around the urinal at lunch time in Canary Wharf / London.
