Slow Knights: “Shame”

Slow Knights is going to be pitched as a new project by Scissor Sisters Del Marquis, when it’s actually his best effort to step away from the glitz and glamor shots of traditional band structure. The collective features Rod Thomas of Bright Light Bright Light and several former members of Prince‘s backing group The New Power Generation, with each member rotating between lead vocalist, back-up singer and instrumentalist.

In a way, yes, it is about Derek Gruen (the artist formerly known as Del Marquis). He did, after all, produce the album and bring this motley crew together as collaborators…

Yet it’s also so much more than that! This isn’t a vanity project. It’s a conscious effort to focus on the music, “inviting the listener to get lost in the lyrics, in the melodies, and most importantly the rhythm of the record”. <— And, yes, I did just steal that line from the press release.
