“Shameless”: The Ballad Of Ian And Mickey

My little brother (who’s straight) recently turned me on to Showtime’s Shameless by declaring that “you’d like it, there’s a gay storyline but it’s totally fucked up and violent but the two gay dudes are awesome.” He was talking about Ian Gallagher and Mickey Milkovich (played by actors Cameron Monaghan and Noel Fisher). Ian’s a high-schooler from a completely dysfunctional, semi-criminal family on the south side of Chicago who just wants to escape into the Armed Forces. Mickey is a full-on homophobic thug with anger management issues. And they’re both gay and (we think) totally in love with each other. I have never seen a gay coupling like this on TV. You can’t really call it realistic seeing as the show is a big farce, and any sane person would run screaming from a closeted sociopath like Mickey. But their relationship has this distinct sweetness to it, as you watch two rough n’ tumble young dudes from the ghetto fall for each other. Their coupling is violent and insane, but compelling as fuck. The most recent episode had Mickey introduce Ian to anal beads, and wow, did I have a boner (despite being an urban terrorist, Mickey is a bottom). I had a boner until Mickey’s virulently homophobic dad caught them together and it got really awful, really fast.

Anyway, Ian and Mickey are a whole new angle on the depiction of gay relationships on TV so they deserved a post. It also helps that they are bareass a lot of the time and both sexy as fuck in a twinky way. Well, in a brawling, gun-firing, closeted aggro twinky way. Check out some clips from the show below. Keep in mind the last one gets really violent and scary. You’ve been warned. Damn, I hope they bounce back from that.

  1. mmmm Cameron Monoghan…who is 19 and therefore the mmmm is allowable (barely) he’ll be one to watch. I’ve lost track of this show since the first season, but its really good.

  2. sad fact is there are a lot of closted homophobic gays that bash by day n suck cock n take it up the ass at night…they are know as the Republican party…bam!

  3. ok, those anal beads were like a chain of bowling balls. i ve watched this show from the start and it is hysterical and not so terribly far from todays reality. even the woman fuck their men up the ass except Fiona and i d really love to see that fine ass boy take it.

  4. This is an incredibly awesome show! Emmy Rossum (Fiona) is such a great surprise! Who I thought was just a beautiful voice, but no personality from the movie version of “Phantom of the Opera” portrays such a winning character!
Plus, William H Macy’s “Frank Gallagher” is the worst father in the world, but such a great character to hate.

The story lines are fast and varied, especially Ian’s, Mickey’s and Lloyd’s (played by Harry Hamlin) tragic “love triangle.” Lloyd is Steve/ Jimmy’s father, and Jimmy/ Steve is Fiona’s car stealing boyfriend, and both the Gallagher’s an Lishman’s family situations are totally fucked up!

I’m scared and scream in endless frustration in this wonderful, wonderful show!

  5. This show is as white trash as any show could possibly be and I LOVE it !!! I have been addicted since season one .What I like most about this show is that WHITE TRASH comes in all color I mean look at V she asked her Mother to FUCK her husband/boyfriend granted V is unable to get pregnant but LOL having your mother to FUCK your boyfriend and they are no longer using a turkey baster !

  6. As bad as a father that Frank Gallagher is you cannot help from liking this character because it seems like everything that he does always come back to bite him in the ass !!!
