Santigold: “The Keepers”

The music video for eclectic artist Santigold‘s new single “The Keepers” felt inappropriate to share on the Fourth of July. It wasn’t the social commentary that dissuaded us from posting about it, so much as the vaguely disturbing imagery found within. She was really pushing to deliver a message here, and uh, it’s safe to say that she succeeded.

Since “The Keepers” is one of my favorite tracks from Santi’s sophomore album Master of My Make-Believe, I’m glad to see it get a proper release (and a music video that, despite touching upon uncomfortable topics, is pretty fucking awesome). Check it out if you’re not already familiar!

  1. I love Santi a lot, and totally agree that Master of My Make-Believe is a fantastic album.

I have to say though, I am surprised you guys have not posted anything about Frank Ocean posting the note on his Tumblr last night, coming out as, at the very least, bisexual.  This is huge for the Hip-Hop/R&B community, who have been notoriously homophobic.  The response has been basically positive, and Frank’s note is really beautiful and poetic.

Also, you could always include a YouTube clip of one of his amazing songs, “Thinkin’ ‘Bout You” is his latest.  😀

  2. I love Santi so much, she’s amazing and both her albums are incredible. Master of My Make Believe is one of the best albums I’ve heard in ages and this is one of my favorite songs from it! Great to see such a strong album track released as a single and with a great video too! Hopefully Santi just keeps getting better with each album release, and on that note I need to book tickets to her Edinburgh gig
