Real Talk: Heroic Gay Survivor Of Holocaust Passed Away

Let’s turn for a second from trying to figuring out who’s gay, and admiring porn cocks to address some real news. Gad Beck, the last known Jewish & homosexual survivor of the Holocaust, has passed away. He was close to his 89th birthday.

Beck has had documentaries made about him, focusing on his efforts during the war to help protect fellow Jews in Berlin from the Third Reich. Beck’s journey to joining the resistance began when his boyfriend was taken to a deportation center, and Beck disguised himself in a Hitler Youth uniform to try and free him. His lover declined to leave his family behind, and the two of them were parted forever

From Queerty:

Beck told the New York Daily News that he had asked an officer for the boy’s release to use on a construction project, but outside, his young lover said, “Gad, I can’t go with you. My family needs me. If I abandon them now, I could never be free.” The two boys parted without saying goodbye.

“In those seconds, watching him go, I grew up” Gad recalled.

Gad went on to (in his own words) “turn to my trusted non-Jewish, homosexual acquaintances to help supply food and hiding places”. Betrayed by a Jewish spy, he was imprisoned in a transit camp in Berlin until the end of the war. After Berlin was liberated, Beck assisted fellow Jewish survivors in settling in Palestine.

There’s a gay role model for you.

  1. I’d love to watch the documentary. It’s an amazing story and he seemed to be a real character… Funny, charming and brave. Proud to hear of his story. Rest in peace, Gad. You’ve earned it.

  2. ” After Berlin was liberated, Beck assisted fellow Jewish survivors in settling in Palestine.”

not realizing he would be part in creating a new holocaust against the Palestinians that would last seemingly forever…up till today.. but who cares…

  3. Much like a Harvey Milk of WWII… a true hero in my book. He will be sadly missed I am sure by all those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, brother.

  4. Really ?  “Palestinian” genocide?  (I cannot use the “H” word in regards to the West Bankers who could have  had and did not make peace all those years ago (1948) when the getting was good.  Instead, they have created for themselves 3 generations of  made-up victimhood and convinced the world that they should be solely in charge of a place they made very few efforts to build and create, despite only existing as a “people” since 1967.   They could have had a much different history.

  5. So, wait. The criterion for self-determination is now “efforts to build and create”? I’m pretty sure Wilson and the UN, as well as the millions who fought to make colonialism a thing of the past, would disagree with you there. And please, be my guest to try to build and create when your homeland is carved up, your trade is blockaded, and your civil rights are sharply curbed by a group of people who now deny your status as a nation/people. And if you’re going to parrot arguments made by Gingrich/Santorum/Adelson, you might want to find a different blog, since given half the chance, they’d probably do the same to us.

  6. can’t resist.

Last I checked, Israel has attempted to work with EVERY SINGLE demand the “Palestinians” have made throughout the years in terms of having a state.  they have only fought defensive wars — all the wars since Independence were acts of war on the part of Arab states.  No other country in the history of the world has “won” wars and been required to “occupy” territory instead of simply annexing it.   And since the land that everyone seems to want has been divided into a checkerboard already (thanks, Great Britain), there is simply not going to be two contiguous states.  Fact of physics.  And note, it is smaller than New Jersey.  You can see from the Jordon to the Mediterranean.   There are, by the way, holier places in the Muslim world.  Israel plays  a minor role in Muslim religious practice and life.  Obviously not so the Jews.

Last I checked, Israel was a democracy.  Last I checked there were Palestinians in the Knesset and Muslims praying in Jerusalem.  Last I checked, Arabs can own property, vote and work if they are citizens of Israel. No one who was in Israel proper in 1948 was kicked out.  Change all of that around to any of the surrounding countries and you will not see any parellels with Jews.

    Finished.

    Have a nice life.

  7. Yikes! Talk about getting sidetracked.  The Palestine/Israel issue is important and the posts are interesting and well-thought out.  But this is not the time nor place to express hostilities on either side.  This is the time to bow our heads and recognize an ordinary man who was forced into heroic circumstances by fate and rose to meet the challenge.  Sleep well, Gad. You were a true inspiration – a life well-lived.

  8. How about a post for Alan Turing as well? It was the anniversary of his death was a couple of days ago i think. If it wasn’t for him, Gad Beck may never have been freed.

  9. NPR did a short story for the the anniversary of Alan Turings death, and very well done I might add…. since this is the season of Pride, in my ideal gay fantasy universe, it would be great to see a Gad Beck, or Alan Turing, or Leonardo DaVinci, or Nicolai Tesla float…..and keep the gold lame clad go-go boys to my bedroom where they belong!!!!

  10. I dont think you can draw a comparison between the holocaust and the Israel/Palestine situation, besides, this was meant to be about Gad Beck, just one of many millions of people that found themselves at the mercy of the most crazed, bloodthirsty, bigotted, rascist, insane bastards that ever drew breath.
I have just finished reading a book about Raoul Wallenberg. Deeply disturbing, i dont know how all those people had the strength to live with memory of the brutality and hatred that they endured. It is completely beyond my comprehension.

Gad, i hope you were able to find peace and happiness in your life. Rest in peace brother.

  11. Find out the real truth before you spill your hatred, The state of Isreal gave the Palestinians land to have their own nation, and what did Arafat do, he let the Hamas and other Jew haters in so they could fire rockets into Irsreal now that they could get closer, so Fuck the Palestinians for not being gratefull for the land that Isreal gave them in an effort for peace. and the rst of the two faced Arabs that pretend to be America’s friend and support terrorism at the same time.  Gad Beck was a hero, and may he rest in peace, and always be remember for the Hero he was.
I doubt you would have the balls to do what he did.

  12. There are 2 sides to every story here. Niether side has acted in good faith towards the other. Both sides have broken promises time and time again. For you to just blame Isreal is completely irresponsible, unfair, and not true.

  13. YOU can’t resist? Let’s look at just one example here…

Hezbollah shoots an anti-tank missile and blows up two humvees in 2006. Israel responds by INVADING Lebanon, leaving over one thousand civilians dead and doing irreparable damage to Lebanese infrastructure. I guess you conveniently left out the unholy disproportionate nature of Israel’s responses to these hostile acts by Arab countries.

And Israel is a democracy? Not for long… I don’t think you get to call yourself that when you have two sets of laws for your citizens (like the court ruling saying that children of an Israeli citizen and a Palestinian can never become Israeli citizens; the Law of Return, one set of rules for Jewish immigrants, another for everyone else; the fact that Israel doesn’t have a Constitution, only a set of laws defining it as a “JEWISH Democracy”). Then there’s the existential and pervasive paranoia that unless certain population percentages are maintained in Israel, it will cease to exist as a “Jewish state”. People who talk like that in America about white people are (rightly) shunted to the fringe of discourse; in Israel, it’s embraced. Honestly, defining your “democracy” along ethnic or religious guidelines is about the least democratic thing I’ve ever heard of. “Demos” means “people.” Not “Greek people” or “Jewish people” or “white people.” It’s taken America long enough to figure this shit out, and the fact that we’re bankrolling a regime that’s making all these mistakes KNOWINGLY disgusts me.
