Random Question: Why Must “Feminine” Be An Insult?

Feminine. Queen. Girl. What is it about these words that makes some of us tense up when we hear them? Why are they considered insults in some circles of the gay community? These questions have been rolling through my mind ever since The “Real Man” Project ended. Especially in regards to the handful of ignorant, negative responses to Chris Crocker‘s submission.

Are we so insecure in our masculinity that we can’t shrug our shoulders and simply accept our feminine tendencies? It doesn’t matter if you’re the hairiest, burliest, most testosterone-infused, well-hung lumberjack who’s never had a single gay thought in his entire life! Something that you do, think or say could be considered “feminine” by societally-established standards. Guaranteed.

Also, isn’t it a bit sexist to attach such negative connotations to these words? Doesn’t it imply that being female is inferior to being male? This notion that masculinity is somehow a virtue brings us to a high school level of foolishness. Even when comments of this nature are made in a light-hearted manner, there’s still an air of maliciousness to the tone. The idea is that being “feminine” or a “queen” is an inherently bad thing for a man who likes to suck dick… But why?

The next time someone calls me a queen, you know what I’m going to do? ‘Cause I’ll tell you what I’m gonna do! I’m going to turn my nose up and say “thank you”. They’ll be failing to recognize that I’m fucking royalty, while they’re a mere peasant groveling for bread crumbs in the streets. Sucks for them.

::steps off of soapbox::

This poorly-written rant was brought to you by You Love Jack model Ethan Rose. When I first laid my eyes on this pixie-like blond twink, I couldn’t help but notice that he has a bit of a feminine edge. I also couldn’t help but notice how much I wanted to WRECK his smooth young hole. And I feel no need to apologize for that desire.

  1. I agree with him, actually. There’s a lot of inherent sexism in modern gay male culture. If we are asking straight society to accept us for what we are, why can’t we accept members of our community that are different than ourselves. Acceptance is a two-way street. Oh, and he does have a nice ass.

  2. I dont think it is an insut I think it is hot because a lot of the manly type of men I have been with usually are not as attentive to me or willing to preform(lack of beter word). The fem type guy just seems to be eager to please and doesnt have hang ups…

  3. I loathe… LOATHE when I see a profile writing, “NO FEMS”. Pisses me off royally. I’m what most would consider very ‘masculine’, beefy, hairy, deep voice – and I happen to be more attracted to guys with a softer side. If ya ask me, (and no one has) the gay community is among the most bigoted, and that disgusts me.

  4. As one of those ignorant negative CC loathers..just go ahead and rip the band-aid off. When does CC start work at Manhunt Daily? I am not really sure when he went from a running joke to the gay Jesus, but it’s obvious that something is going on.

  8. First of all, all we must respect each other and accept the differences. Likewise, it must be respected the subjective likes and the personal identity issue, some men consider that the masculinity is an essential part of their personal identity and also some men consider that the masculinity is an important and attractive quality in the
men, and I cannot understand why it must bother anybody, over all while it is requiring respect for the opposite attitude.

Anyway, I think when it talks about effeminate men maybe it exactly would
be not like the boy of the picture (a boy who looks soft and tender necessarily
    is not a girly boy).

Furthermore, the trouble about the perception of the gay identity is prompted by the
inclusion in a same group of two homosexual’s types very different: cisgender and transgender (the last it must not mistaken for transsexual). Personally, I think that transgender homosexual men rather could be considered as a category separate of the gay man (who would be cisgender), but included in the LGBT Communities, and it would avoid the confusion.

  9. amen, brother! why CC gets the props he does around here is beyond me…i have nothing against his non-conformist gender-identity, i just think his ideology is very questionable…anybody can watch his youtube videos and come to their own conclusions, but i agree that he seems to have greased a few cocks on the MH press staff to get some of the favorable notices he’s been given–lol–

  10. First of all there is nothing wrong with being feminine. Be who you want to be, who is anyone to say any different it is your life and your choice. I think when people say no fems, it is not about being sexist or sexism in most cases, it is about preferences which we all have. It is to say that if I’m not interested in say for example a black guy, does that now automatically make me racist? I don’t think so, it is all about preferences guys, not necessarily racism, sexism or for what other controversial reason. Honestly I prefer for the use of the term ‘straigh-acting’ because my point of view is that I want to date a guy and not a girl…

  14. not everyone is ‘straight acting’, which is a LAME & BOGUS term, because if you wanted str8 you would be with a woman. i prefer somewhat butch guys, that is NOT to say i would decline or turn away anyone who peaks my interest because he ‘acts’ feminine, get me drunk enough and i can make paul lynde appear str8

  15. Exactly. “straight acting” = meaning you are going to PRETEND (acting) to be something you aren’t and your going to do that by fucking a woman (straight). That term is such a turn off to me…but then so is “gay acting”. I’d much prefer a man who is just being who he is whatever that looks like.

  16. I’m not sure if I would say it is due to sexist attitudes. After all, most people find femininity in a woman attractive. Therefore I don;t think it’s the inherent traits that cause the problem. I think the issue is that the feminine traits are found in a MAN. I think it’s this incongruity that makes people uncomfortable (and why they are similarly uncomfortable around a masculine woman). It’s unexpected. Which surprises people. And when people are confronted with the unexpected and unknown which they don’t know how to deal with, they usually resort to mockery and discrimination.

  19. just go to THE CHRISCROCKER.TUMBLR.COM I loved his post from
sept 3rd….and I quote “I want to be fucked hard and called a stupid little bitch” with a pic of a rather nice ass in designer briefs

  20. that question is the lid-opener for a pretty big can of worms, i must say.

at any rate, it’s just like the matter of why “gay” can, at times, be used as a successful insult.

i think that, sometimes, it’s a matter of Imprecise Language/limitation of language; some other times, it’s a matter of someone simply being misguided in their malice.

i do concur that i’m not very happy with the inherent misogynism/sexism behind it all.
i, personally, try to avoid being that way.

  23. Simply because it looks and sound ridiculous on a man in general. You are NOT a women. The issue with that is people try an act as if it is a put down to woman and it isn’t. When applied to a man it is an insult but not to a women. In other words you are seen as less of a threat–weaker. Regardless of what you have seen in news papers and TV but woman are not your equals. They are weaker than man physically and mentally. If you HONESTY believe other wise than you have truly been brain washed.

  25. The root of the problem is that we are taught incorrectly that there is feminine behavior & masculine behavior, when the truth is that there is only HUMAN behavior. Every person can exhibit whichever behavior best suits/expresses their individual personality & spirit. Being called feminine is usually meant as an insult but if you don’t think there is anything wrong with your behavior then you have nothing to feel bad about. You do have cause to have bad feelings towards the person insulting you. But that person is only insulting you because they don’t feel good about themselves & the insult is a pointless attempt to feel better by making someone else feel as bad or worse than they do. As for women being weaker? I’d like to see you attempt to return Venus Williams serve or hit a pitch from Mo’ne Davis. I agree that women are not men’s equal. Women are FAR BETTER human beings than most men know it’s even possible to be. And as for justifying peoples bad behavior because they encounter the unexpected/unknown? Seriously? First off, who are these arrogant ignoramuses who think that everyone on the planet should behave like they do? And how many times does one need to have such an encounter before the intelligent one’s stop being caught off guard? These insults are meant to control someone else’s behavior by teaching them that they don’t have the right to be an individual and that if they don’t conform there will be trouble. Get over it and keep your negative thoughts & opinions to yourself, and the crew of bitter individuals you chose as friends! Especially when NO ONE asked you. If you want to be miserable and self loathing that’s your choice but don’t spew that negativity at others or into the air others have to breathe
