President Obama Names Gay Man to Lead Office of National AIDS Policy

President Barack Obama has named openly gay Jeffrey S. Crowley, Master of Public Health, as Director of the Office of National AIDS Policy. The move comes after a recommendation from the Presidential Appointments Project, an undertaking aimed at getting more GLBT officials into the Obama administration.

President Obama said, "Jeffrey Crowley brings the experience and expertise that will help
our nation address the ongoing HIV/AIDS crisis and help my
administration develop policies that will serve Americans with
disabilities."

Here's a snippet of his bio, from the Georgetown University website:

"His primary areas of focus involve Medicaid and Medicare policy issues
as they impact people with disabilities and chronic conditions
(including people with HIV/AIDS). Before joining the Health Policy
Institute in October 2000, Mr. Crowley served as the Deputy Executive
Director for Programs at the National Association of People with AIDS
(NAPWA), overseeing the organization’s public education, community
development, and training activities."
