Pet Shop Boys: “Winner”

Is it possible that Pet Shop Boys recorded their new single “Winner” as a candidate for the official London 2012 Summer Olympics theme song, and then they were passed over for Muse‘s over-the-top anthem “Survival”? Even if that’s not the case, I would have preferred to hear this track blasting from my television during the games.

“Winner” is the first official single from the Boys’ upcoming project Elysium, which is due for release in September. The album will also include the less cheesy, quite excellent slow jam “Invisible”. Good stuff?

  1. Pet Shop Boys can do no wrong in my book (well, maybe with the exception of that 1989 Liza Minnelli CD “Results”)- I have been a fan since their Bobby Orlando days (the 1984 original version of West End Girls is a real hoot), and this is yet another good track.  I can’t wait for the new CD to drop in September.

  2. I have to agree with Dewitt..  I would MUCH rather hear Winner than Survial.. Survial, is just a screaming mess..  lol

  3. I’ve also been a fan of these guys for many many years and I TOTALLY agree !!  Pet Shop Boys would’ve been SO much better for the Olympics instead of that screaming mess Survival.
