Papa, Can You Hear Me?

Papa is a Los Angeles indie band I decided to write about this morning, even though I would have rather talked about Sufjan Stevens‘ open letter to Miley Cyrus and the general greatness of her BANGERZ track “#GETITRIGHT“. Seriously, have you guys listened to “#GETITRIGHT” yet? I’m fairly certain that it’s a legitimately terrible, dumb song, but it’s approximately seventeen thousand times better if you pretend it’s being lip-synced by senior citizens reclaiming their sexuality.

I’ve directed a music video in my head where Miley plays a sexy nurse at a retirement home, and there are a bunch of adorable moments between same-sex geriatric couples smooching, holding hands and maybe humping in a way that would make some people uncomfortable. It would be mind-blowing. If you are reading this, Miley Cyrus—and I know you are—please steal this idea and run with it.

Meanwhile, I’ll be over here shamelessly listening to “#GETITRIGHT” and pretending that this post is actually about Papa. Their new album Tender Madness came out last week, and I’ve given it a few spins after falling for their song “Put Me To Work” over a year ago.

The project’s second single “Young Rut” is a clear standout track, though I’ve also embedded their latest single “I Am The Lion King” for your listening pleasure. If that’s not enough to convince you to give the album a chance, then maybe I should mention that there’s one song with lyrics about “blowjobs and cotton candy”? Or maybe I shouldn’t mention that. Blargh.
