of Montreal: “Feminine Effects”

A handful of Manhunt Daily readers will throw a fit at the mere mention of the word “feminine” on these pages, but you need to chill the fuck out! It’s just the title of a song. Sure, of Montreal‘s lead singer Kevin Barnes may have a tendency to fuck around with gender and wear elaborate, theatrical make-up… But whatever. Get over it.

“Feminine Effects” acts as of Montreal’s contribution to a split 7″ with Deerhoof, which will be available in stores for Record Store Day (April 21). As some fans have pointed out, it calls to mind classic rock tunes of the 1970s, including but not limited to Pink Floyd or David Bowie. Also? It’s very, very good.

The way Barnes’ vocals flutter on the “something to be laughed at” line kills me every time. Listen! Listen, my dear readers! You might enjoy this. Definitely. Maybe.
