NBC Puts Heroes Out Of Its Misery

Milo Ventimiglia and Adrian Pasdar shower off together after a scene, fake pic, Nathan Petrelli, Peter Petrelli, Heroes

After four seasons on air, NBC is finally pulling the plug on Heroes. Why? Because quite frankly, the ratings have sucked. One of the recent episodes only pulled in a total of 4.4 million viewers. To put it all in perspective, the critically acclaimed first season averaged 14.5 million per episode. Yikes!

Personally, I gave up on the show midway through the second season, and it's now occurring to me that I wasn't the only one. From unnecessary characters to tepid plot points, the show never really managed to recapture the magic of the first season. There's some talk of a movie being in development, but no final word as to whether it'll actually happen. What do you think? Are you sad about the end of the show?

  1. Fuck NBC and FOX with their usual bungling of tv schedules etc….
What the fuck’s the point of having all these extra cable channels if you’re still going to preempt the normal ones to show 3 months of sports.
In fact, there is no longer a viable reason to have a 26 episode season.
The BBC knows what it’s doing. Maybe the States should take a gander over how a proper tv station is handled.

  2. I don’t really know what happened. The first season of Heroes was amazing; thought it had so much potential for growth. After season one, seemed like the writers just got lost and never found their way back. Too much focus on Sylar, Claire & Peter.
NBC should allow for a final eight or ten hour mini-series to give the fans the best possible end it can but canceling the show was an act of mercy.

  3. I stopped watching when they brought Dana Davis on the show the sent her packing.
Wtf was the whole point of that? I thought her character (Monica Dawson for all your Heroes hardcore fans!) could have potentially been a great addition to the show.
That and they fucking ruined the show with what they did to Elle Bishop.
Here I thought nothing could have been worse then Lost, boy was I wrong.

  4. I agree with Christopher King! Neither NBC nor ABC deserve to have a network. The continually have hit shows then change the air dates and times without notice, stand around with thumbs up their executive butts and wonder why viewership has dropped.
Worse is when they interrup the shows for weeks and months at time for sports, “reality” shows, etc. Their third flaw is to siphon off good writers, thinking they can break up the teams that got their story lines off to a good start. Again, they wonder why they are missing in the so called ratings.
By the way, has ANYONE here EVER been part of ratings? I don’t know of anyone who ever participated in this mystery system.
    RIP Heroes
    Ugly Betty
    Flash Forward
Chuck (is it on, is it off again)
I think I’ll stick to BBC, SciFi and Comedy Central from now on.

  5. I liked season 2, but season 3 was just horrible. I forced myself to watch season 4 in hopes the show would get better, and it was definitely better than season 3 but not good enough. I would like for the show to be able to get an ending. A movie, mini series, etc. I do think it deserves that. But I won’t really be too upset if that doesn’t happen.

  6. Never watched the show (not a fan of hayden pantierre..) it sounds like the show was a real mess though… random plot twists, nonsensical storylines, etc.
When viewers devote countless hours of their lives to watching your show and then you make a sudden plot twist they feel betrayed or somehow letdown…
That is the situation that the office is in… the writing is amazing, it’s funny, the comic timing can’t be matched. BUT they jumped the shark with that jim/pam wedding and the baby. Now they’re scrambling for ratings with this aaron/andy saga…
NBC is really in a situation right now. Whoever is incharge of programming is fucking up… First the Jay Leno/Conan fiasco, ER is cancelled, Heroes is gone, and Law and Order?!
TBS is really on the come up with their minority programming and with conan coming this fall they’re really going to bring in the viewers.
Take note major networks; you have to diversify your programming; we’re tired of seeing yts allover tv…

  7. Started watching this show the first season, and what I was afraid would happen to it is exactly what did happen…it fell into what I call the “Lost” Syndrome, where the plot became so convoluted and the characters so confusing that after a few episodes like that, you just don’t give a fuck anymore who did what to whom or who the good guys are and who the bad guys are…or something like that. I loved “Lost” the first season and loved “Heroes” the first season too, but early in the second season of each, they got cancelled as far as I was concerned.

  8. Lol. Thank god. I, like many others, was a fan of the show in the early seasons. But, meh, by 3 it had just completely turned to shit.
    Good riddance, I say

  9. I’m not surprised, but i’m still sad to see it go.I was hoping they would get it together next season. The whole Carnival theme wasn’t working for me.I feel like the writer’s strike is still haunting TV land first Pushing Daisies then Ugly Betty now Heroes

  10. I made it through half of the first season, then gave up and went back to Justice League … I dunno why, but Heroes(and Lost) just never appealed to me

  11. The show jumped the shark in the second season when Hiro was stuck in feudal Japan for far too long. Give your love to Chuck and the Human Target, then support The Cape at mid-season.

  12. see i never even watched one episode, i kinda avoid NBS like a herps carrier, LOL if you guys are looking for syfy or anything like that go for doctor who or spartacus

  13. Honestly, another reason why people have stop watching network television. When you screw with programming schedules and casts, this is what you get. I’m not surprised though. NBC has been killing itself for years with bad show after bad show. They wouldn’t know what to do with a hit if they tried.

  14. The end of this last season showed promise of a possible revival of the show, but it just wasn’t to be. I personally got really pissed at the show when they killed Elle Bishop aka Kristen Bell off. I loved her on Veronica Mars and was pissed when the stupid CW ruined that show. So I had hope for her on heroes, and then they ax her too. Oh well, she on to bigger and brighter things now. I think a mini series or movie would be a good way to give all of the die hard fans like myself a chance to see it have a proper ending. Too many shows are axed now without a proper ending. This show does deserve a proper send off. My favorite show now is Spartacus: Blood and Sand.
