Marriage Redefined by Merriam-Webster

Gay Wedding

Coincidentally around the same time that Scotland is considering gay marriage, Merriam-Webster has changed the definition of the word "marriage" to include same-sex marriage. The passage reads: "the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage." This is just one small step in the lexicon contributing to a giant leap towards equality.

  1. Wow. For once, the dictionary’s more progressive than the mobs! Usually they’re both equally slow…

  2. Demeaning it may be, E-Man, but the job of the dictionary is to record reality on the ground, not to advocate for social change. Their definition is, unfortunately, pretty much spot-on as far as the bulk of America sees it.
