Madonna Gets Booed For Standing Up For Gypsies… And Gays

Madonna Concert

At a concert in Romania Madonna was reportedly booed by thousands of her own fans for standing up for gypsies and gays. In Eastern Europe Roma people (gypsies) face discrimination and are impoverished because of second-class status.

Madge said to the crowd, "I've never been to Romania before and I am happy to be here. But I found out that there is a lot of discrimination against gypsies in Eastern Europe and that makes me very sad, especially because we believe in acceptance, gypsies, homosexuals, people that are different. Everyone must be treated the same, don't forget that!"

She even threw her loyal gays a bone, because homosexuals are also heavily discriminated against in Eastern Europe. There's no video of the booing and the crowd supposedly got over it quickly, but it's still sad that even Madonna fans can't support some tolerance.

I give her props for speaking out!

  1. The notorious slut was booed because she’s not a politician and for being there for the first time she needs to get a lot facts straight. Plus, what makes her the civil rights champion? From adopting all black babies of africa?

  2. Wow. I don’t even want to begin to pick out how many offensive statements are in your comment bing. You are a bigot and probably have very little if any education. She may not be a politician, but she is a public figure and her opinion believe it or not can influence others. So her showing support for tolerance (which you so obviously lack) is a very good thing and I commend her for it. I’m a teenager and I can speak more sophisticated than you can. What do you think that says about you?

  3. madonna is a gay icon in the west, but not necessarily in the east (or other places). My father and so many of his friends grew up with abba (and other typically gay) music, but trust me there are straight as hell. so if that kind of ‘gypsy and gays’ remark worked for madonna in the west, it certainly wouldn’t have elsewhere.
    thanks to madge anyways.

  4. Madonna overstepped herself in so many levels, Bono did something like this in his concerts but he’s a champion and activist of civil rights and aide to Africa, not to mention his music is about true love and reconciliation. BUT Madonna? a slut that sings about promiscuity? She has no authority in this issues whatsoever

  5. Having seen how aggressive the Romanian gypsy beggars can be, I’m not surprised the locals dislike them so (though, considering the history of the Roma people, they’re really victims of a vicious cycle).
Sorry she got booed, but from the information given, it’s hard to tell if they were booing her message of tolerance, or her presumptuous preachiness.

  6. It is sad to hear too much hate and lack support especially in the gay blog. She support the cause against discrimination, like it or not.She may not be a conventional politician, but she is a politician (underground) in the frontline fighting. You dont have to be a regular politician to make a change, she has influence and believe or not her work is building a platform for a change.
Another thing is, she is not afraid to criticize even if it means to be booed. At the end of a day, some people there will think about what she had said. She is planting seeds in a hard soil but her effort will bear some fruits.
If you critisize here, then you should ask yourself what are you doing to make a positive change?? We are taking for granted the freedom that we enjoy now without taking a moment of two and think how many had booe before, thrown in jail, fired from work, disowned by their own family, mocked in the streets, harrassed by authorities, etc. Think for a moment if not for those who fought and marched for us before, if there would even be gay clubs, blogs and all the amenities that we are taking for granted.
It sucks to be a freeloaders, you don’t even know how much seat/blood was shed.
    Read your history guys.
