Madonna Does Something Worth Talking About

Madonna, Interview Magazine / Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, iconic, 2010

Whether you love her or hate her, there's no denying that Madonna is an icon. While we can debate her status as a gay icon, she still remains iconic in the grand scheme of pop culture and music history. Of course, we can't ignore the dents she's made in her dynasty over the past few years (notably everything having to do with Hard Candy). But forget about that. Because the bitch is back.

In the latest issue of Interview magazine, Madge channels herself for a retro photo shoot with Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot. Feel free to shout "Photoshop" off the rooftops until your throat's sore, but that won't make the following images any less stunning.

And even if you can't appreciate the visual element of the piece, you should at least take a moment to read her interview with director Gus Van Sant. There's a particularly touching moment where she talks about Milk and losing friends she loved to HIV/AIDS. Why can't she be this awesome all the time?

  1. Stunning when NOT wearing the sunglasses. Same problem with her Celebration video. She looks ancient with them!

  2. wtf dewitt?
who the hell debates about her being a gay icon?
she is THE gay icon, she is the gay god.
lady who? if u think that flavour of the month tramp gaga is anything significant yet, then u r wrong.
madonna is number 1 in the gay world and there’s not much debate about it. go read wikipedia or something.
and wtf is wrong with Hard Candy? it was a great album except for 1 or 2 songs.

  3. oh boy – how madge is my least favorite
I’m gay and I don’t like her singing voice
    it’s stunningly limited. It’s boring.
Trend sucking dilitante. So I’ve said it.
Gay Icon? Give me an enema. PLEEEZE.
She changes up and shakes it up all the time.
When you have so little talent in singing, you HAVE to be creative.
I’m not now, nor ever have been a fan, and when I read she kicks our journalists that won’t look her in the eye while talking to her, and ask the question without reading off a note, I think – sure, demand connecting eye to eye, but what a bitch.
It’s nothing but aggressive use of the media to be noteworthy when you can’t act or sing without machines to make sound do things the person cannot.
As to the show I saw – they all look alike.
Innovative not creative. Sexual not musical. Aged well, given. Talent still 2/5 and that’s my experience after too many years of people being over solicitous for reasons I have no understanding of.
Although I’d love her boytoy as my own for a weekend – she’s a wonderful gay icon as per picking guys with XXL dicks. That’s fact, based on actual interviews with immediate staff. Love her for being a size queen doesnt’ make her a gay icon.
And if people are more real talking about loses from AIDS they have suffered. I’m so not impressed. I’m a palliative care worker and it’s incalcuable how many men and women I’ve spend time with. But it’s not food for the media to up my image as compassionate it’s called attending and caring for the people you love, and helping the friends you have know they are loved, honored and cared for until the last second – and beyond. That’s called being a mensch. A real person. I only bring it up because being real is something that’s too person to put in an cheap interview with a faceless reporter. Why trade on proving one is human?

  4. Madona: Great model, great thinkin, great peformer… not so good actress, a lousy songwriter and a crappy pitchy singer… Ok, I hate her music, as musician she sucks and big time. But gotta admit sumthing: when it comes to talking and taking actions, she is really good at it, and not only that. Behind that old dumb blonde image, there’s a huge brain with many great ideas and a open mouth to spell them out. Spite of everything, I respect her very much and indeed, she’s iconic.
… Just please, don’t make another record!! XD

  5. LOL. Size queen… Did you just see the blog of her former lover in the 90’s? It’s on the list here. Although I don’t blame her for going for him. Not a size queen here. Couldn’t care less. It’s how it’s used. Look at Tony Ward…

  6. @ Dewitt–Hard Candy happened to be one of her best CDs. I seriously can’t take your horrible taste in music. You have no sense of music. If it doesn’t have a thumping trance beat to it then you just don’t get it. Whenever you review something with actual substance you just don’t know what to say. You should probably lay off the poppers and gain some taste. Ohh…and i’m not saying that Madonna is something of substance but that CD was definitely on rotation in the gym. Great workout CD.

  7. I love her… God she’s just so amazing 😀
    and Hard Candy was EPIC….
    Bow to Queen Madonna

  8. I have been a fan from the start – 27 years shes been on the scene and despite a few cringes – Madonna is the business … she sets the trends for others. No one will come close.

  9. I pray to a different god and would rather not have her labelled as mine …can’t stand Madonna…sorry.
**goes into a trance and bows before Janet**
well Ms Jackson if you’re nasty 🙂

  10. She an old ugly money grubbing cunt who will eat shit to stay relevant. i wish she would just crwal up in a hole and die.
