Lianne La Havas: “Forget”

My favorite part about killing the Weekly Top Ten countdown* is that I can write about music I enjoy without you all being like, “Bah, why haven’t you covered the David Guetta, Jessie J, Chris Brown, blah blah blah, shit song?” Look, it’s not like I’m some pretentious fuck who can’t ever appreciate pop music. I’m just sayin’… Can we raise our standards?

Start off by listening to Lianne La Havas. The 22 year-old singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and BBC Sound of 2012 nominee is certainly on the rise, and she’s already secured a spot as the opening act on Bon Iver‘s North American tour.

Also? Her new single “Forget” will blow your socks off. The melodies on the verses recall mid-’90s R&B and soul, but then you’re thrown into a chorus that’s just plain wacko and spectacular. Seriously. Take a break from all the jizz and big balls, and give this one a shot.

  1. I loved the Countdown! It was one of main reasons I used to read this blog (which I used to do a lot more than I do today). Did you kill it because people wouldn’t agree with your musical tastes? I like this track, btw.

  2. Lianne La Havas has an AWESOME singing voice!!

man this one is so much better then that crazy bitch who couldn’t sing I think it was Nicki Minaj and her shit video for “Stupid Hoe”
man that shit song was torture!!!!!!!!

  3.  No, Javier, I killed it because it took way too much time for something people didn’t read.

I’ve been thinking about taking these weekly selections and putting them against one another in an “Aural Fixation”-type column that has nothing to do with sex.

The other issue I had with the Weekly Top Ten was that it got so frickin’ redundant. I think that would help solve the issue.

  4.  I’m not going to front though! Some of my favorite songs were on your worst songs of 2011 list (along with some of my least favorites, but of course).

  5. “No Room For Doubt” was my favorite…thank you for mentioning good music again! It’s thanks to you guys that I found Kimbra, and Lykke Li, and I’m pretty much indebted to you because of it. I freaking love those ladies, and this womans voice is magic.
