Lady Gaga’s New Perfume Ad Is Creepy

Lady Gaga has a new stench out, and it’s called “Fame.” The ad campaign is making my skin crawl. That’s not sexy! That’s a horror movie! And I’m not even referring to the Photoshop carwash they put her body through to make this. Little men crawling all over your body and getting into all of your orifices is not conducive to me buying your scent! No matter how good they look in jockstraps. It’s going to make me slap at my body and run screaming.

Although maybe this is something we should explore in “Let’s Get Kinky” this week. Tiny hot guys ravaging you in a “Gulliver’s Travels” perv fantasy. Maybe not. At least the bottle is pretty in a 1980’s opulence and drama kind of way.

  1. Why would you want the perfume to be black? Wouldn’t that stain?

I like the concept of Gaga being overrun by the Lilliputians, but I don’t like the image proper.

  2. You backward old aunties are fuming with contempt…and why?  This young Gaga girl is talented, delightful, and has picked-up gay causes where other celebrities fell obligatorily short.  How can you revel in ripping apart someone to unabashedly enthusiastic and diversely creative?  Yes, yes, yes–for everyone over 30, I understand your intravenous addiction to Madonna; no one is blaming you one bit.  Herein, all I’m saying is that there’s enough room in the heavens for plenty of stars.  So please stop slinging so much shit because you’re beginning to look like harping, crazed zoo monkeys.

  3.  I am over 30 and I agree with you in regards to the fact that there’s room for more than one gay icon… except… it seems like Gaga is hell bent on copying each and every move Madonna makes. It’s too blatent to ignore. Madonna puts out a perfume, and the ad campaign is black and white. Some of the photos include her wearing a mask. Then, a couple of months later, Gaga does EXACTLY the same thing. I admit the photo is beautiful and compelling. I admit she has talent (but she is NOT AT ALL CREATIVE, which implies she can up with ideas on her own) and I like some of her music, but you can’t be blind to the continued copying of Madonna’s career.

My beef is this—Gaga is talented enough to stand on her own, so why can’t she do that? Why does she need (and pathelogically need) to try to match Madonna move for move?  If Madonna has no talent, as many of Gaga’s fans continually claim, why would a supposedly more talented person copy her? No wonder M says in her concert, “She’s Not Me”.

And why, despite Gaga’s admirable stand on bullying, do her fans INSIST on bullying Madonna and her fans (like: “she’s old, she’s a hag, she’s washed-up, she has no talent, she’s a whore, she’s phoney, she’s desperate” or “you backward old aunties, you harping, crazed zoo monkeys”, etc.). Maybe they need to absorb to what their Mother Monster actually means about bullying, because they’re not getting the lesson.

So if you truly mean that there is room for more than one gay icon, enjoy Gaga and her music with my blessing but please refrain from calling us backward old aunties and ask your fellow Monsters to do the same. Thanks.

  4. Cher and Madonna have very little in common, aside from a strong personality, a large gay following and changing up hairstyles and costumes, and maybe lately, longevity in their careers and some plastic surgery… lol. Their careers, musical styles and “reinventions” have been very different, and I like both of them.

Gaga, on the other hand, is repeatedly using Madonna’s career as a blueprint and following it to a T. Bleach-blond hair? Check. Reaching out to the gays? Check. Gold cone bra? Check. Black and white-filmed tour documentary? Check. Sweaty, muscular male dancers doing push-ups in videos? Check. Gay anthem, that sounds like someone else’s gay anthem? Check. Now a perfume MONTHS after M released hers…. and what a surprise… it’s got a black and white photo with a mask on. What’s next? A series of kids books? “Evita II, the Resurrection”? Adopting Malawi babies?

I can’t think of one Madonna video or look that was like Cher’s… not one. Gaga, not so much. And clearly other new pop singers can avoid the pitfalls of copying Madonna… look at Beyoncé, Rhianna, P!nk, Katy Perry…

I’m not saying Gaga doesn’t have talent, because she does. I’m not saying that she doesn’t have some good music, because she does. But when she claims she’s creative and a unique artist, she’s delusional. If she’s truly talented, why can’t she create her own unique identity instead of stealing someone else’s? It’s not a hard or unfair question.

  5. Here are some question I have for you:
How is Gaga uncreative? How is Gaga career even the same as Madonna? And which part of gaga album it is that resemble Madonna?
Do enlighten me with answer and truth, because I see falsity in you claim..

Gaga is unique and attractive in personality and music from the start and continue to do so. Just because her 3rd album resemble other artist (she did mention that she is intentionally recreate some of the aspect of the musics that she loved) does not mean that she is a copycat, copycat know no creativity. Plus there is no crime in turning something old into something new, taking parts from another place and use it in creating something uniquely new and neither it is wrong to do so. Do know the different between copying and reinventing.

You complain about Gaga fans, well so do I. Stop obsessing over a stupid track by Gaga that you claim to sound like Madonna, it doesn’t. And stop using such irrelevant and untrue claim to dismiss her uniqueness, talents, creativity, showmanship and artistic skill.

It is wrong for anyone to make opinionated claim as facts without prove and back-up facts. And it is equally wrong to use false info to justify a biased claim.

  6. Gaga is over.  Aren’t we tired of her sound-alike tunes, her ridiculous costumes, her sagging breasts, her self-congratulatory bullshit, her blatant plagiarism?  The only thing I still like about her is her boyfriend.  She and Adam Lambert should run away together and never been heard from or seen again.

  7.  See above, read, and repeat. Gaga’s career isn’t identical to Madonna’s, but there are several things I wrote that I came up with off the top of my head that are blatant copies, including creating a perfume MONTHS after Madonna released one with a similar ad campaign, and there are many more that I won’t bore you all with listing.

My comment above was a fair one… I give credit to Gaga’s talent, and I say I like some of her music, but she is not creative or original. If you don’t know the references and original things that she’s taken from other artists, that’s fine, but saying she’s original when there is tons of proof out there that she isn’t is just burying your head in the sand. And yah, listen to the two songs again, that Madonna even played in her concert side-by side… yup, they are VERY similar. Same spoken intro style, same beat, same chorus. The lyrics are original, the song is not. If everyone keeps mentioning it, it’s because everyone has noticed it… even music experts have spotted it.

Sure, Gaga has every right to reinvent things, lord knows Madonna and everyone else in pop has done the same. I don’t care about that. My beef, as I said before, is that she continually “reinvents” Madonna’s career specifically and she still pretends she’s original. It’s gone from homage and respect to imitation and co-opting someone else’s achievements. All I ask of her is that she try to stand on her own two feet and find her own voice. She has the talent to do it, so why doesn’t she? I would respect her much more if she did so.

  8.  LOL… true, and I don’t hate Gaga. I just get flummoxed by why she feels the need to duplicate every move that another artist has done before.

  9. 1. this ad is hot
    2. anything involving mark kenamura’s ass (gaga’s vagina, to the left) is worth buying
    3. people still care about madonna?
    4. people still argue about gaga?
    5. lmfao @ graphicjack

  10.  I get flummoxed as to why people’s claim madonna is so fantastically original when she’s so clearly not. she’s as big a rip-off as anyone. why is it wrong for gaga to do it, but not madonna??

  11. I admire your conviction. I wish I could care about ANYTHING as much as you care about Madonna.
