Kyary Pamyu Pamyu: “Candy Candy”

We are in no position to explain Kyary Pamyu Pamyu‘s cultural relevance to you, so this is the point in the post where we hand over the reins to Iain Forrester of The Singles Jukebox. He writes, “Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is a fashion blogger turned alternative model turned pop singer and apparently Japan’s most popular Twitter user.”

Cool! But what does all of that mean to you?

It means you’re about to watch a music video in which an artist runs with a piece of toast in her mouth, drop-kicks her cartoonish doppelgänger and takes down an anthropomorphic onion with an assault rifle. You’ve been warned, gentle reader! Once you hit play, you won’t be able to look away.

  1. Ohhhhhkay? Huh? WTF?
I wanted to throw my iPad against the wall but, I couldn’t stop watching the video.

  2. I’m a big fan of JPop, and her songs are mostly about the ‘kawaii’ (cute) aspect of songs (cute in a Japanese sense).

she also has a music video dedicated to fake eyelashes. 😀

  3. I’m so glad you guys have brought back the music posts.  I could always find fresh music on here that wasn’t always the same shit they are playing on the radio.  But on this particular post…not my thing.  The videos are really great…but I just can’t get past the music.

  4. Ok… So those videos were so cute in such a weird way that I couldn’t help smiling. Probably won’t watch them again, but still made me laugh.

  5. This has no entertainment value for me at all. But I gotta say the weirdness of this really helped to balance my emotions after watching those depressing Sarah Maclachlan dog commercials. So, there’s that…
