Jessie Ware: “110%”

It was a struggle for me to get into Jessie Ware‘s “110%”. The chorus was giving me a Lily Allen vibe, the (slightly creepy) “carving my initials in your forehead” sample was giving me heavy (oh gosh, really, no pun intended) Big Pun nostalgia and her vocals had a nice sultry tone to them. Yet it all fell flat for some reason? There wasn’t anything that got me excited enough to press repeat, aside from my curious ambivalence toward the track…

After a few listens, I eventually came around to the song. It’s, at the very least, a decent indication of Ware’s potential as an artist, and I’m mostly happy that it got me interested enough to check out Ware’s previous efforts. Speaking of which, her Sade-esque single “Running” (released back in February) is a personal fave.
