Iron & Wine: “Joy”

Oh hey! Iron & Wine‘s fifth full-length album Ghost On Ghost came out earlier this week. This time around, Sam Beam (pictured above) took a jazzy, laid-back approach for his new material, resulting in a collection of songs perfect for rainy summer days or recovering from a hangover on a lazy Sunday morning.

The animated music video for “Joy” premiered on NPR Music last Friday, and it’s befitting of the song’s soothing vibe and tender (yet self-deprecating) lyrics. Beam sings over minimal instrumentation, “I only lie when you don’t want the truth. I’m only frightened ’cause you finally gave me somethin’ to lose,” and you just can’t help but fall for the “troubled” and self-proclaimed “crazy” character he’s brought to life.
