“I Know You’re Late, But I Need Another Taste…”

Remember back in 2007 when Justin Timberlake attempted to casually diss Prince in Timbaland‘s remarkably lackluster number one hit “Give It To Me“? It’s okay if you don’t! The song was far from memorable in the grand scheme of the pop music universe, and there’s even some debate whether Timberlake’s lyrics were meant as a friendly jab at The Purple One.

I’m bringing this back up, because Prince’s new single “Breakfast Can Wait” is infinitely better than anything on the superfluous follow-up to Timberlake’s debatably decent (and often quite good) March release The 20/20 Experience. Keep in mind that this is coming from someone who rode Justin’s dick hard when “Suit & Tie” first came out. I love that man when he’s on top of his game, but the second part of that project felt like more of an afterthought than anything else. Quite frankly, I wouldn’t have been mad if “Take Back The Night” had just been left on the cutting room floor.

Meanwhile, Prince is doing everything right with “Breakfast Can Wait”. He showed he’s got a great sense of humor by using Dave Chappelle on the single artwork, then let the music speak for itself by featuring a female Prince impersonator in the music video (along with some stunning choreography between a couple who’s getting ready to knock boots).

Who needs anyone to bring sexy back? Truly, it never did leave. And this is the proof.

  1. I’ve liked Prince for 30 years now (& was horribly conflicted during Boy George(huge BG/CC fan) & Prince’s mid 80’s feud lol) I really liked this. I admit some of his music can be hit or miss sometimes but this hit it big time.
