Guilty Pleasures: Hard Times of RJ Berger

Am I the only one watching this show? I admit, the mere mention of an MTV series conjures up images of annoying teen girls ranting about how their lives are over because the decorator used the wrong shade of pink decorations at her Sweet Sixteen extravaganza. Or brain dead twenty-somethings getting “real” in a house on the corner of Horrible Decision Road and Promiscuity Ave.

Finally, MTV has created a series that is deliberately fiction, hilarious and actually worth watching. Admittedly, I may be attracted to the main character since he reminds me of my first boy crush. RJ Berger (played by Paul Iacono) is a well-endowed, self-proclaimed geek who spends his time fantasizing about the popular cheerleader and maneuvering through the daily drama of Pinkerton High School.

The occasional mention of RJ’s giant schlong is enough to keep me watching and wanting more. RJs best friends are sex-obsessed misguided Miles and phone-sex-operator-in-the-making, Penny (the one girl that has actually been on the receiving end of RJs trouser monster).

This week’s episode tipped it’s hat to The Breakfast Club with a hilarious music montage. Who doesn’t love that? And, it doesn’t hurt that the captain of the football team and RJs nemesis, Max (Jayson Blair), is tall, dark and extremely do-able. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

EDITOR’S NOTE: As a substitute for today’s Secret Sex post, occasional guest blogger Diego (not to be confused with this guy) has stepped in to share one of his guilty pleasures.

  1. Couldn’t get into the show. Tried to watch a couple of times, and it was pretty bad ( like everything on mtv) Also, it kinda rubs me the wrong way at how its targeted at children, as if they aren’t insecure enough.

  2. love this show, and Max is extremely hott!!! i loved in the episode a few weeks ago where he was practically naked

  3. I miss MTV UNDRESSED – that show although had terrible writing I would watch religiously. I keep waiting for it to come back now with the relaxation in censorship I could see the show pushing its limits. I have watched this show a few times I it is alright – nothing I rush home to watch but I do like it.
