Good News?

The New Jersey Assembly approved the Marriage Equality and Religious Exemption Act by a 42-33 vote! Of course, before you start buying wedding gifts for all your couple friends in the Garden State, it should be noted that Governor Chris Christie (the smug bastard seen above) has already promised to veto the bill.

But is there a silver lining in this wretched cloud called INEQUALITY?* Yes! There is! With a two-thirds vote in both the Senate and Assembly before January 2014, legislators would be able to override Christie’s veto. Plus, as other bloggers have pointed out, this win will provide a bit of positive press for the marriage equality movement. Yay?

  1. The State Constitution mimicking the U.S. Constitution “Congress is made up of two bodies; The House of Representatives & The Senate. Each body is elected by the people as THEIR representatives.
The Republicans, “THE CONSTITUTION PARTY” are fine when votes go THEIR way. OUR democracy was established to break from England and “Taxation without Representation”.
Christie is a bully and one of the biggest windbags of them all.

  2. As someone who lives in NJ and has seen the massive benefits of Chris Christie being an asshole, I must say that it wouldn’t be good for Chris Christie’s political career for to pass gay marriage. He’ll never get the Republican nomination. But, what I expect to happen, is that he settles it with voter referendum. This would be the best outcome for all involved.

  3. I again with the above comment unfortuantely sometimes the greqt good of th states isnt our best result. That being said if people actually voted instead of just bitching bout elected officals… what a wonderful world it could be??? VOTE…… or SHUT -UP.

  4. I grew up in New Jersey, spent all my life there until I had to move for work.  While I am very proud of the brave legislators who voted in favor of equality, I know it will all be in vein as long as ‘fatty fatty two by four, can’t fit through the kitchen door’ is in the Governor’s Mansion.  Without the two thirds majority needed to override his veto, which pretty much is certain right now, the best option we have is to retool, double down and nominate a strong Democrat to run against him in 2013 and vote his fat ass out.

To those who do not know, New Jersey and Virginia are the only two states who hold gubernatorial elections the year after a presidential election.  So the benefit of this is that the entire democratic political machine is going to gear up to knock him on his ass.

So while a step has been taken in the right direction in New Jersey, we must now focus our energy into securing the re-election of those who voted for it, and voting out the opposition, starting with the 300 lb gorilla in a cheap suit.

  5. Perhaps our Governor Chris (Gregoire) needs to call him and have a little chat about his public stance verses his private views. Is his state in the business of discriminating? Sounds like it.

  6. It is no secret that Christie has national ambition.  The whole referendum charade is his lame attempt to stall the legislation.  He doesn’t want to sign it and piss off the ultra right wingnuts and never get nominated.  On the other hand, he doesn’t want to veto it and have that on his record, as the general public is growing more and more towards supporting it.  Too bad the bill is on his desk now.  Wonder how he can weasel out of it.

  7. The fat fuck can’t ‘run’ for president, how can a commander in chief be that obese, he’d never pass the  physical.  He want’s to have voters vote on what I can put in MY  mouth when I can’t vote on what he puts in his? Bullshit. He’s a creep, he’s a good ole boy, he’s a terrible example of a man. He in no way could ever be president. I hate that he’s my governor, and he’s probably going to be re elected because of his propaganda on his ‘balanced budget’……he’s full of shit.

  8. Christie is a big fat skum bag with no conscience except to know where the best buffet restaurants are. I hope his fat ass gets kicked out of office in 2013 and it will. Property taxes are at an all time high and his view on social issues especially his bigotry against gays and lesbians will come back and fuck him.And a good fucking is exactly what tis cow needs. He disgusts me.

  9. I love reading people’s opinions who actually believe they know how government works… You guys are just as hate-filled and rhetorical as Christie.  The fact of the matter is that he should send it to the people instead of having the will of the few thrust upon the will of the whole.  God forbid that people actually have a say in how their government should be ran.  In a truly open Democracy, this is the way it should work.  However, WE DON’T LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY.  Believing that we do is ignorant in it of itself.  But I digress… I don’t know why I expect reasonable discord from this site…

  10. Equal rights are never ‘put to the people’ that is NOT how our country runs nor should people’s equal rights be voted on. It takes enlightened people to LEAD. Not the opinion of the masses that go to a poll to cast a vote.
