Gleek Out: The Rocky Horror Glee Show

Last night, the cast of Glee tackled The Rocky Horror Picture Show. As someone who’s never attended a midnight showing of this movie, I’m not even going to attempt reviewing the performances from this episode. It’s one thing to piss off a bunch of angry Gleeks, but I’d rather not have a group of rabid Rocky Horror fans standing outside of my house with pitchforks and leather corsets.

Then again, I will say that I was disappointed by the omission of the word “transsexual” from “Sweet Transvestite”. As soon as Amber Riley uttered the words ” from sensational Transylvania”, my friend paused the DVR and freaked out for ten minutes straight. It’s one thing to change up the lyrics for the sake of younger viewers, but how is “transsexual” a dirty word? Methinks someone at FOX had something to do with that…

On a brighter note, the episode featured tons of shirtless man candy. In the place of your regular review, we’ve rounded up some sexy screen shots of Chord Overstreet, Matthew Morrison and Cory Monteith. I’m particularly drawn to Morrison’s nipples and furry chest, though I wish his character wasn’t such a jealous asshole. Seriously, is anyone rooting for Will Schuester to win over Emma Pilsbury? Just wondering.

  1. There were several lyric changes throughout the songs actually. I was pretty stunned at them, given the general tenor and content of the show. I think the show has shown and said things much more risque than the lyrics they changed. (Which would include the marked increase of bare male flesh this season. I’m all for pandering to your audience, but last night’s episode was a little embarrassing. Was Chord Overstreet brought on board only for his abs and his bangs?)

On the whole, though, I was really pleased with the episode. When I saw the preview, I was worried it was just going to be a performance of Rocky Horror with minimal plot (which we’ve had enough of this season), but I thought they did a great job of reworking the material from the “musical” to tell a story from within the show’s plot development. This is the Glee I fell in love with. (I especially liked Sue’s commentary during rehearsals. I love Rocky Horror as an event, but as a movie, it does tend to get a little draggy in the second act.)

  2. I was very disapointed. The one redeeming seean…………….Matthew getting his shirt ripped off……………………..

  3. talk about a letdown, it was bloody awful. and the weak subplot about the guys being all scared to show their awesome bodies, give me a break. all they needed in the promos was “on this very special episode of GLEE, hot guys are scared to take off their shirts…” this show has been slipping in quality for awhile now. even sue wasn’t as funny. ryan murphy ALWAYS gets in his own way and now it’s starting to show.

  4. I think actually Mercedes did say “transvestite” several times…

But seriously, I couldn’t care less about the shirtless man candy. Glee is supposed to be about song and dance and theater and this episode just entirely lacked any energy whatsoever. It was terrible. I’ll watch the rest of the season, but only because I’ve invested so much time already, not because it’s actually enjoyable anymore.

  5. Last night’s episode was ok. First off, Will’s intense jealous was pathetic very unbecoming. Wasn’t feeling it at all. And what was up with Finn’s “body issues?” It really made no sense to me whatsoever. Still waiting for the plot to advance as well. I’m still a faithful Glee fan through and through, just wish it wouldn’t stray so far off it’s beaten path

  6. i loved it although the series is getting a little more cringeworthy with the older cast forcing their way into the spotlight. mercedes definitely said transexual. i dont like the way this series has tried to become more about the issues than the last…the male body issues??? hardly a shocker…just another attempt to gain more of an understanding following.

  7. Oh poor Dewitt. It must be painful not to bash Cory Monteith. But you will next time. So buck up. It won’t be long.

  8. Dewitt I think you totally chickened out. My boyfriend and I watched this episode today and then watched The RHPS just to compare and I would have loved to read your reviews of their numbers. To read your feelings on Glee finally having John Stamos perform, to try and hunt you down if you tried to bash Jayma’s “Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me”(which was EPIC!)OH Dewitt I think it was merely the fact that it was easier for you to post pictures of the shirtless males than to actually review them, rather than “fear” of the Rocky Horror fans attacking you. I was hoping for better from you.

  9. seriously mr shue is the worst part of this show 😛
and @nagaprince Sam and Kurt were never planned to date in this show people just turned it into a rumor. Kurts actual love interest is going to be played by Darren Criss which is going to be so much better

  10. So here’s the thing…. One the episode was good. I think the Mercedes not saying transsexual thing… I agree with the comment on her not saying it because she isn’t a transsexual… as for the the hot guys… they are catering to the audience… and as for the body issues and people having a “problem” with it… It actually brought realism to the show… I cannot believe people are upset by this… when was the last time u looked in a mirror and thought u were fat… I know lots of 5’9 125lbs gay men say so…..

  11. is it just me, or is chord overstreet only attractive from the neck down?

i find his face so ugly, that it is distracting. i don’t care how nice your abs might be, if your face is doggy, i don’t get beyond that.

  12. Yeh… pretty sure when Shu’s shirt came off (cue the corny music) I jizzed in my pants. I’ve always found him quite hot, but never imagined that body was under his shirt. Not sure why, but I didn’t.

  13. as much as I love this website, I may stop reading it, there is so much racism, and criticism from self-loathing gay men on here, sometimes it’s hard to read, yeah that beautiful man had a tatoo and a pimple on his arm, I would never give him the time of day, I’ll save my social security check for a nice 20.00 hustler at the park. Do you people get it?

  14. Very well said Mike! And sorry to say, NO, most of the people you’ve addressed your post to WILL NOT get it!!

  15. Matthew Morrison may be the hottest man on television and in musical theater; Jayma’s song had me holding my breath waiting for Matt’s pants to drop (ok, I was wishin’ and hopin’). Stamos’s number was smokin’. And Chord…oh,dear God, you could chisel stone with his abs!

  16. The idea of Mercedes not saying Transsexual is an issue not because the character was supposed to have been a transsexual but because the characters were supposed to be from the *planet* Transsexual. Ironically, they kept “transvestite” in despite the fact that Mercedes really is not a transvestite, even in the terms of the show. I haven’t watched the episode yet, but after listening to the soundtrack a few times I have to say the only songs I really liked were the more toned down ones–pretty much everything that’s not so well-known from the show.

  17. I liked Brittany and Santana in this episode especially their comment’s about Finn.BTW you can getaway with eating sloppy joe’s just swap out that ground beef for turkey meat. I wish they had included Tim and Susan but it was good to see cameos from some of the original cast members.Overall i thought this episode was ABulous.

  18. I’m excited about the next episode. 98% sure it’s where we meet Kurt’s boyfriend.

Who, disappointingly, isn’t a sexy ass blond.

    He is, however, delicious.

  19. Glee ruins everything beautiful in life and the Rocky Horror Picture Show is no exception. Anyone involved in that show should be murdered violently and painfully until Glee exists no more!!

  20. I’m glad to hear that I wasn’t the only one that noticed that little lyric shift and also wondered why it was necessary. I didn’t rage about it for any length of time but still…odd. Based on the above pics however it looks like you’ve got your next contestants in the “who would you rather” blog. Oh and the only thing I’m rooting for Will to do is to be more naked more often. YUMMERS!

PS…Yespiquen: wow dude, perhaps some therapy would be a good idea before you act on any of that. I’m pretty sure that neither of those things have that type of super-ruining-power.

  21. @breakme if you paid attention to anything you would know that there was an interview with Chord Overstreet he confirmed that he was to be the love interest of Kurt until there was alleged chemistry between him and quinn. And if you watched the episode and knew that it would make perfect sense.

  22. I’m not going to comment on the Glee episode as I didn’t get to watch the entire thing, but…

Dewitt…damn it, grab a roll of toilet paper, a squirt gun, a newspaper, some dry toast, and a couple of your best Rocky Horror friends, catch a buzz, open your mind and go see it…it’s a classic! LOL!

  23. @Nagaprince…Actually, he never confirmed that he was suppose to be Kurt’s love interest. What he said was that everyone assumed the reason he was cast was for Kurt’s love interest, but that he is not certain about that. He thought that if that was the case they must have changed the plan after they saw the chemistry between Sam and Quinn.

  24. Someone please explain why the two girls making out last week is ok, but had to change the lyrics this week?

    Oh, sorry, it’s FOX. Assholes.

  25. Blah, this whole episode I was looking forward to seeing someone dressed up as Frankenfurter, and since that didn’t happen I was disappointedface. Chord’s character has become less sexy to me, Will is a doucheface, and Finn kinda surprised me with his fragile self-esteem.

All in all I didn’t NOT like the episode, I just didn’t like what all they did with the premise.
