It’s refreshing when a straight semi-popular musician who’s the husband of a hugely popular one can admit he dated another man back in the day. In the most recent issue of Details, Gwen Stefani’s husband and Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale admits he had an affair with transsexual pop singer Marilyn in the early 80s. Gavin’s romance with Marilyn was first noted by Marilyn’s former bestie Boy George in a 1995 memoir he wrote. Rossdale denied the claim at the time, but appears to have gotten over his reluctance.
“I think at the outset there was a sort of fear–that was right at the beginning of Bush, and I didn’t want it to be part of it. It felt like a cheap shot, so I was like, “I’m not getting involved.” I’ve never wanted to appear closed about it. It’s not something I’ve talked about really because it’s always been in the glare of a tabloid world. It’s just one of those things: Move on. When you’re 17, Jesus Christ. I don’t think there’s anything strange about any form of–you’re learning about life. It’s a part of growing up. That’s it. No more, no less.”
Though the catty queen within is noting that this coincides with the band getting back together. Gay = column inches.

It is nice that he is open about it now that it is socially acceptable. but dating a transsexual is not what i would consider a homosexual relationship. this notion goes back to a kind of ignorant conventionality that says if you have a penis than you are a man and any man that dates you is gay. besides, he’s saying “its part of growing up” well if being gay is another step in my maturation than i guess i haven’t grown up yet.
