Fight For Your Right (To Marry)

Proposition 8

Equality California is making plans to overturn the state's gay marriage ban by 2010, but some folks aren't having it. Brian S. Brown of The National Organization for Marriage told The New York Times, "The fact is that the people of California have already spoken. And they don’t like being told they were wrong the first time." Well, they were wrong, and I agree that it's time to tell them whether they like it or not.

While we're on the topic, the victory in Maine may face some challenges. If opponents of gay marriage can gather 55,000 signatures in 90 days, the issue will be put on a ballot for the public to vote in November 2009 or June 2010. Yikes, this could be Proposition 8 all over again!

In better news, California's Senate Education Committee voted 7-2 to approve a bill for Harvey Milk Day. The writer of the screenplay for Milk, Dustin Lance Black, has recently been pushing hard for this measure.
