Don’t Be Gay. Don’t Smoke.

A new anti-smoking campaign targeted towards teens is using their own homophobia to discourage them from smoking. Their website reads, "If you want something long and slender in your mouth, cigarettes are the way to go. If you don't want to be gay, get the facts." One of the organizations ads shows a man unzipping another man's fly with implications of oral sex. Instead of a hard cock flopping out of his partner's jeans, he pulls out a cigarette.

Or not. It's all a fantastic joke from The Onion. I got a good laugh out of this one, and I'm sure you will too.

  1. Are you guys kidding me? This is one of the least homophobic or insulting things ever. If you’re familiar with the onion’s humor it’s very much in line with their usual stuff. I LOVED IT!

  2. Haha, is a really good critic to open media TV. Great job… should I feel a little bit sorry that I actually want a smoke right now?? Specially if it comes from the crotch of a sexy man!!

  3. That Surgeon General’s warning was hilarious. What’s really funny is it might actually work on a lot of people.

  4. Insulting to be honest.
maybe the message was supposed to be hilarious, but the way it is received by the audience is not. those kids that were shown at the end of the show said something like – ‘i no longer smoke, cos i don’t want everyone to think that i am gay homo’. how is this not homophobic? the make gays scapegoats to combat other problems?
basically the add screams to me:
“don’t smoke, it’s gay, and gay is obviously very bad”
    unfortunately i don’t see the:
“don’t smoke, it’s gay, and gay is obviously very bad, but homosexuals are good”

  5. I believe it was supposed to be so ridiculous that it couldn’t possibly be taken seriously. As a satire of homophobic behaviour, it actually seemed kind of pro-homo to me.
@Nex: You do realize the kids in the video were a scripted part of the joke, right?
