Do People Who Say “Ask Me” Actually Want You To Ask Them?

Most of us, I’d gather, have a love/hate relationship with “Ask Me”. There’s an intriguing mystery to not knowing whether someone’s a top, a bottom or something else along the butt-fuck spectrum. Hell, they might even have a preference that’s too complicated to explain in those terms! Or perhaps they don’t want to broadcast certain facets of their sexuality to the whole world. The fact of the matter is, there are plenty of reasons to choose “Ask Me”…

But, well, sometimes you just want to know what you’re getting into beforehand. I’ve had instances where I’ve approached a conversation assuming someone’s a top or bottom, and then all of a sudden, my preconceived notions are turned upside-down when they reveal they’re the opposite. This can be thrilling, or this can be a disappointment. It really depends on the given situation (or whether, unlike me, you’re bold enough to ask him before the conversation gets heavy).

This upcoming week, I’m going to be exploring this concept further with a five-part series of posts featuring the guys from our Manhunt Now newsletter. For now, though? We’re going to focus on those elusive “Ask Me” types. Which of the following men makes you want to pop the big “top or bottom” question? Which of them would you bang without knowing their preference in advance? And most importantly, how is jcramos so fucking beautiful?

  1. I feel like ask me is just lazy. Even lazier when there’s no profile text, all the descriptor fields are ‘Ask me’, and there’s just bunch of pictures. I don’t care how pretty you are — make some kind of an effort to have a personality.

  2. I don’t care about the ask me issue…there is a much more pressing one you should discuss. And that is the guys that try to be edgy or clever by using numerals to replace letters in their screen name. Take “reneg8de” for example. Translated his screen name is “renegatede.” What does that mean? I’m sure he was aiming for renegade but he sure missed. The most common one is “st8t” (translated as “state”) for straight. And don’t even get me started on the use of a 3 to replace an e….

Okay, I’ll take a deep breath and step away from the soap box now….

  3. Just by looking at the picture’s my 100% scientific conclusion would be if they have a beard or any facial scruff then you can expect their profile to say “Ask Me”.

  4. I’m a suspicious person when it comes to meeting guys online and assume if someone says “ask me,” especially about their HIV status, it is because they want to be able to change their story according to the conversation or they don’t want to be left out of a search if you block positive guys. There’s nothing wrong with being HIV+ so why hide it? If a profile says “ask me,” I skip it.

  5. Personally I use the search filters so many guys get skipped over because I never see their profiles due to those “ask me’s” they use.

Who’s loss does it come under is hard to tell but most guys will not even look at your profile unless you look @ theirs first anyways.

And any guy who writes me without showing up on my track list is toast 9 times out of 10 unless they state they are limited and or do not pay.

  6. Yeah, the only place “Ask Me” bothers me is when it’s under the HIV status- I always assume the guy is either poz or regularly barebacks and hasn’t been tested recently enough to know for sure.

  7. (Not that there’s anything wrong with being poz; I just choose to avoid poz men since I already have a sucky immune system)

  8. that’s not a sound logic… you forget that Dewitt will select scruffy bearded men more frequently because either a) he knows that what’s deemed “hot” right now or b) it’s what he personally finds hot or c) all of the above.

  9. Some people aren’t really all that into anal, so they might chose “ask me” because they don’t really identify as a top, vers or bottom. Also, I tend to put “ask me” for ethnicity because I find it a somewhat offensive thing to have to state on your profile, since we all know how many racists are out there in cyberland, and it’s also kinda obvious that I’m Caucasian when you see my very pale skin in my profile.

  10. oh here we go again. if you prefer one thing over another, you are racist. give it a rest. a turn on, is a turn on, and a turn off, is a turn off. as for me, i have many of each, ranging from looks, to personality, and it’s a matter of how many turn on’s, versus how many turn offs, for any one guy. no one thing is a deal breaker.

  11. I look at it as “ask me” as in spark up a conversation. get to know me. We are all people not food items on a menu. People are so damn rude on these websites and apps. Everyone is so quick to judge and then block or just ignore.

  12. My problem with “ask me”s is that it prevents effective self-sorting/matching.

For instance, say you’re on Netflix and in the mood for a movie, particularly a horror movie, and more specifically, a slasher flick. You’re gonna pay minimal attention to rom-coms and documentaries, maybe peruse a few promising thrillers/action flicks, and zero in on the most specific/accurate category. When you have a specific desire for a movie, who in their right mind is going to waste time on something with no plot synopsis, cast listing, or even tag words/category classification?

I’m a fat dude- and I put that in my profile. It deters the guys into abs (which are most dudes), but holds the attention of guys that like ’em juicy or are weight-indifferent. I’m also an anal virgin just looking to suck a dick on occasion- because why would I want to waste the my time and another’s and piss off a top that hates oral? The less revealing/clear/accurate a profile cover pic is, the more information needs to be explicit in the profile itself. You may have lots of revealing private pics, or pics that look great once at full-size, but that is bupkes for someone on the free basic membership. The information you put may scare off the ones that would have been a mis-match, but it’ll most likely attract the guys wanting what you have to offer.

And if that isn’t working against most of the “ask me” members’ interests, consider this. In a marketplace swelling with dudes and dick, the less information to be had in making a decision, the heavier the little that is in the profile gets scrutinized. A dude with a hot pic but loads of ask mes and a really vague sentence using the word “desecrate” instead of “discreet”? Hell to the no!

  13. I am a bottom but I hate getting fucked. You can admire my ass (it is rather nice), you can play with my ass, you can eat my ass, you can even finger my ass, and I will moan and groan with pleasure but you cannot fuck my ass. “Ask me” works because the other options don’t.

  14. Regarding your last thought, that’s kind of an ignorant way to look at it. Did you know that you can prevent your profile from showing up on other’s tracklists? I do because I don’t want someone that sees that I looked at their profile to immediately think I’m interested because it may just be because I was curious and clicked to read more.

Not showing up on your tracklist doesn’t necessarily mean they didn’t view your profile.

  15. Then it doesn’t hurt to click it again when your writing that person does it? I do a curtsy look at profiles when they look @ mine again doesn’t mean I am interested just returning the favor.

Most guys on ManHunt now a days who write without showing up on your track list are running a scam, asking for money or are Shady. So I take it with a grain of salt when they do.

Again if you do not state your a non paying member I see no need to avoid showing up on a track list when you write them.

If you had read the entire statement you would have understood so the only one ignorant is you.
