Discuss: Pink’s “Raise Your Glass” Music Video

Let’s talk about Pink‘s new music video for “Raise Your Glass”. Not too long ago, the thirty-one year old singer unleashed the track about embracing the “outcast” label, and it’s basically the superior version of Ke$ha‘s “We R Who We R” or Katy Perry‘s “Firework”. Who cares if she’s played this “I’m so unique” card multiple times in the past? Even if the schtick’s slightly manufactured, it’s the epitome of who she is as a pop musician.

More importantly, Pink doesn’t need to resort to over-the-top gimmicks to get her point across. Instead of shooting fireworks out of her boobs, the video focuses on all the weirdos, bad-asses and downright unique individuals who don’t get lots of love from society as a whole. Yes, there are a few questionable moments. But it’s all in the name of good humor.

Look, I realize this is turning into a gigantic fanboy letter to Pink, but that’s probably because I’m a total lesbian for her. If you share my love for Ms. Alecia Moore, then why don’t you hop over to the Weekly Top Ten and solidify her lead on the charts?

  1. I love everything about her and I really like this video but it didn’t strike the same emotional chords that Katy Perry’s Firework video did and continues to do.

Pink is still #1 and FABULOUS!

  2. I’d rather listen to Katy Perry “Firework” than this. I’d like to point out the sparks are coming from Katy’s HEART.

  3. I’m kind of tired of the “Feel free to be yourself” message in music lately. It’s just so blah! P!nk however, I love no matter what, and I was definitely into her lil “Rosie the Riviter” lok!

  4. I’d love to see her video, but the link is not available in all regions: boo!
Kudos to Ms. Alicia for making a best of…compliation though
    can’t wait to see it!

  5. Pink has been one of my favorite artist since her debut. I loved the song Most Girls and You Make Me Sick. Her along with Christina Aguilera, Janet Jackson & TLC will always be on every music list of mine.

  6. I loved the video. Only Pink can deliver a message with such strength and comic relief at the same time. Because of the video I’m starting to love this song

  7. I love the song. The video’s nice and all, but on a level, Firework’s was a ‘deeper’ video.

Raise Your Glass, lyrics-wise, is probably my favourite of the two ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. so much for a ‘gay wedding music video’…
2 guys kissed for like a half seconds.. that’s it
she even gave an interview saying how inspired she was by her gay friends bla bla…
    seriously wtf….
i like the video, but i feel a bit betrayed..

  9. so some one edited the sh*t out of her video, Pink basically says what she thinks, i repsect her for doing what she wants, not the cookie cutter mode, she makes the music for her, not the corporate big wigs. she and christina do what they feel is right…period. so much of the musice i hear today sounds the ‘same’ i long for the days when radio stations were not all owned by clear channel, so we got a better variety..

  10. @Nex – that’s exactly why the premiere of the video delayed almost two weeks, the gay part (which was primarily considered do be the main part of the video) was censured. did u notice its the shortest scene on the video ?! … don’t feel betrayed, not her fault – she did her best ! :-)))

@Kyle JT – Pink was not looking for any dramatic effects in her video. She’s just humouring the society, as always. That’s the difference between her and Katy’s Firework. Katy’s being dramatic, and Pink is being positively sarcastic. ๐Ÿ™‚
