DeShawn Timothy: “55″

Oh hey! You know what I don’t want to listen to? Cazwell. Though I’ve tried, time and time again, to enlighten my homosexual brethren on the existence of legitimately good queer hip-hop, all they ever want to do is listen to awful rhymes set to a video of slutty go-go boys. I don’t get it! Why do you punish yourself like that?

“It’s fun,” you reply. “Stop being such an elitist cunthead.”

Point taken! But you know what else is fun? DeShawn Timothy‘s “55”. The Philly-based emcee (who you may or may not know as one half of queer-rap duo Sgt. Sass) released the song yesterday morning, and it’s already destined to blast out of my car windows for the duration of this long, hot summer season.

“You can’t see me with 55 Hubbles” also might be my new catchphrase.

If not, it’s still a catchy-as-all-fuck chorus, paired with verses that mesh your standard braggadocio with lines about shutting down anti-gay haters and making out with Keith Haring. I’m fucking in love with this song. You should be too.

  1. Every one of Cazwell’s songs and videos just blend together. I mean I enjoyed the schtick the first few times; it was highly amusing and catchy at first, but at some point it moves into being repetitive and boring. This DeShawn Timothy song, on the other hand, is good. Really good. I definitely hear the Missy E influence.
