Chris Cornell Not Into Homophobia

You used to think Chris Cornell was just a sexy-looking rock star who tormented us with “Black Hole Sun”, right?

(Ohmygod, I’m sure Chris is a talented musician, but that song makes me want to drive chopsticks in my ears. I’d rather listen to “Spoonman”.)

In reality, Chris is a chill (and sexy when he has short hair) guy who doesn’t need to hear some asshole spout gay slurs. He was at an airport lounge in Seattle on Thursday when some douche acted up. Said douche referred to another passenger as a “queer” for making a pro-Obama statement. The ex-Soundgarden frontman berated the dude in front of everyone.

“You’re a prick. You deliberately called him a queer to make him feel uncomfortable in front of a lot of people.”

Said douche was escorted by security out of the lounge.

Cornell also covered Whitney’s “I Will Always Love You” at an Obama fundraiser in San Francisco earlier last week. So he’s a pleasant sort of fellow. He also looks good with his shirt off. He’s got a lot going for him.

  1. I rarely question other people’s taste in music because it is so idiosyncratic (and because I don’t like others to criticize my musical preferences). But not liking Black Hole Sun and Spoonman? Really? I mean, really? Chris Cornell is just great.

And I am so glad to see that someone else knows this song is Dolly Parton’s, whose two versions are both superior to Whitney’s.

  2. Yes, we know it’s Dolly’s, but he sang it as a tribute to Whitney. Dolly wrote a fantastic song that can be sung softly sad (Dolly), powerfully painful (Whitney) or achingly cool (Chris), and one can love all these versions of the song.

  3. He is not that sexy to me but i can see he has a rather large equipment in between his legs…so, he’s a winner in my book. How can i know that you may ask? Well, look at the second pic closely.

  4. I disagree, Whitney Houston could sings rings around Dolly Parton on the song Parton originally written. This guy didn’t sound bad singing this song. May Whitney rest in peace because so many haters came out on the blogs. I am glad black America gave Whitney Houston recognition in 2010 at the BET Awards,

  5. To each his own,I think Whitney destroyed it and not in a good way!! As the writer of the song,Dolly sang it the way she meant it to be sang not screached and scream thru.

  6. @bill, I just went on youtube and seen a video of Dolly from 1974 singing the song and she had about 2 or 3 million hits. There were several versions by Whitney on youtube and one had over 10 million hits. Oops, this tells you, people all over the world preferred Whitney’s version better. Dolly parton was a cross over singer around the world like Whitney. She’s a country singer and her version was just average. However, you have your opinion and I respect that. I truly hope Whitney is a peace because I have read some of the most vile and racist comments about her on newspaper blogs. No one said the nasty things about Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, or Amy Winehouse about their drug use. Racism is alive and well in the U.S. with a doouble standard for whites and blacks.

  7. Correction:

Dolly Parton isn’t a crossover singer around the world. Most haven’t heard of her. More people have heard of Lady Gaga than Dolly Parton.

  8. I did not say race dose not matter, this conversation we were having had nothing to do with race.Yet you chose to bring it into the conversation. My point was that not everything is about race and not every time someone disagrees with what you believe is because of race.

  9.  youre really high on racism my friend. And I’m sorry, but I’ve seen so many nasty things about Amy Winehouse it’s disheartening. Both Whitney and Amy were outstandingly talented woman that unfortunately had many public outings with there abuse. Also in the day of Marilyn and Elvis the tabloids weren’t quite as nasty or as heavy either so even when someone was a bit more involved it was known, but not blasted across the papers and news stations everywhere. Instead of focusing our energy on bringing people helping people we are constantly working on bringing people down. I know I’ll never change your opinion especially through a blog, but you just have to think about some of the things you say man before you go spouting off like that. You immediately run to the world is bad and all hateful to the black community when in reality most of the world unfortunately is just hateful and it’s not just toward the us, it’s towards everyone. And in this generation where everything is post on the internet its more difficult for people to go through tough times in there personal lives without someone not hating on them its saddening.

And as far as the hits go for youtube well most people are even unaware of the fact that Dolly Parton originated the song and maybe have’nt viewed her version. I personally like Whitney’s version better, but that’s just me I love/d everything she’s done, she was meant to sing and thankfully the world was blessed to hear her do what she does best. I also believe Dolly maybe wasn’t as great vocally for my taste, but I think she also provokes more emotions from her singing rather than to set out and vocally set a standard. Whitney sang a bit for showmanship sometimes and she made sure no one would top her, but I think Dolly sang directly from her heart rather than to try and top anyone. But….personal opinion I suppose. Well now that I’ve written a novel :-/
