Brad Pitt’s Backpedalin’ Ass

Awhile back, head celebrity supercouple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie declared that they wouldn’t make their union official until every gay person in the U.S. of A could get legally married. This was a nice gesture (fuck, my straight friends never even gave it a damn thought when THEY got married pre-it being legal here in Mass.) but then he went and made himself a lie-teller!

From his interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

“We’d actually like to,” he says of his seven-year partner, Jolie, “and it seems to mean more and more to our kids. We made this declaration some time ago that we weren’t going to do it till everyone can. But I don’t think we’ll be able to hold out. It means so much to my kids, and they ask a lot. And it means something to me, too, to make that kind of commitment.” Has he asked Jolie to marry him? “I’m not going to go any further,” says Pitt. “But to be in love with someone and be raising a family with someone and want to make that commitment and not be able to is ludicrous, just ludicrous.”

I’m choosing to read that last sentence as railing against the fact that gays can only get married in a tiny amount of states, not whining that he can’t put on a tux again and walk his corpse bride down the aisle because of his previous declaration.

Honestly, shit changes. If he wants to avoid a teachable moment with his needy ass child brigade (“Why Mommy and Daddy can’t get married because their gay friends can’t…”) so they can be ring-bearers and flower girls – it’s fine. I’m more concerned with the fact that goblin Jonah Hill got nominated for an OSCAR. AN OSCAR. Tilda Swinton, Michael Fassbender, and Patton Oswalt are roaming around feeling unloved and the star of Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian got a fucking Oscar nod. Die, Hollywood, Die!

  1. Says Pitt. “But to be in love with someone and be raising a family with someone and want to make that commitment and not be able to is ludicrous, just ludicrous.”

Welcome to our world, Brad. I live in Canada, so I could get married (if I could get a date with someone I’d want to marry, that is), but I guess what he’s saying is, is, yah, I agree it’s ridiculous that gays can’t marry, and I held out for a long while, but I’m caving to pressure and hey, I CAN get married, so suck it if you can’t. It’s too bad he’s caving to pressure from his kids when he should hold fast to his convictions. Basically, what he’s teaching his kids is that if a fight is too tough, you should just give up. Weak.

  2. I feel sorry for all the gays out there that long for validation of their relationship by the government. How about just have a relationship and be done with it? Do you really want to pay more in taxes? Have to divide all your property and give half to him even though you earned all the money….. I want to play in the NBA but I am fat white and old. Get over it already.

  3. First of all, we do not insult the Goddess that is Angelina Jolie, not sure who the hell you think you are, and second of all people who are upset with them over this decision are really pissing me off. It was an amazingly selfless decision they made in the first place, no one else of their stature in Hollywood or anywhere else for that matter made that particular stand. Now things have gotten complicate, and they have every right to make the decision they feel is best for themselves and their family. It’s horrid that marriage equality hasn’t taken hold yet, but that doesn’t mean that any couple, gay or straight for that matter, should be putting their love lives on hold until it is. Have your weddings, have your ceremonies, express your love in the best way available to you, the rest of it be damned.

  4. This is a petty, rotten post – you managed to say rotten things about Brad, his wife, and even their kids. It’s a wonder ANYONE would want to be an ally to the gay community if this kind of crap is what they get in return.  Fortunately, most of us have better manners than this.

If they want to get married, more power to them.
