Aural Only: Whitney Houston

This will probably be yanked from YouTube before we even get a chance to hit “publish”, but Whitney Houston‘s comeback single “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” has officially hit the net. Disappointed that she returned with a ballad? You’re seriously underestimating the power of Whitney’s dance remixes. Plus, ballads are what she does best!

  1. Work it Miss Whitney!! Welcome back to Life!! I have missed you Baby! Thanks for the inspiration.

  2. the song sounds like one of those cheesy “AI” finale songs… and her scratchy crack voice needs some work but at least she’s trying to make a comeback.

  3. I don’t know what y’all are bitching about. I’m a critical music snob and I love it! I can hardly wait for the remixes! Bring it, Whitney!

  4. I don’t think it’s bitching, just calling a spade a spade. She didn’t take care of her instrument and now it’s failing her. Her voice is a shadow of what it was just 6 years ago. I would love to see her succeed, but just being realistic with the quality of this track.

  5. I’m not really into starting comparisons are anything, but this just exemplifies the difference between mariah and whitney. While Whitney may have come first and was definitely great, she hasn’t shown the ability to stay relevant 20 years into her career. Mariah, on the other hand, can come out with a new single that sounds current and will get lots of sales and airplay for a new young audience. With this song Whitney seems to be settling for being a nostalgia act…
