Aural Only: N*E*R*D

Alternative hip-hop group N*E*R*D joined forces with Daft Punk for their latest single “Hypnotize U”. While we’d love to sit here and talk about a collision between two of the greatest electronic music producers in existence, we’re way too distracted by Pharrell Williams‘ soap-covered torso. Sure, he may be channeling a lesser version of D’Angelo‘s “Untitled”, but you’ll never catch us turning our eyes away from a naked male singer.

As for the song itself? It’s not as mind-blowing as you’d expect from a collaboration of this nature. Although we can certainly appreciate Pharrell’s falsetto wailing, the vocals aren’t sexy enough for a track about being shoved deep “inside” someone. I mean, does anyone else get a total power bottom vibe from him? It’s kind of hard for me to believe he’s ever been inside another person…

  1. I heard the whole thing…nice groove, dont think its gonna be a big hit though.

Note to Pharrell…get a trainer and do some crunches before you off the shirt for a vid, lol.

  2. The best thing about that video is the girls. And I’m 101% homosexual, so … not a fan.

(Not a hater either. Just not my thing.)

  3. He’s got a gorgeous face. Too thin. He’s as skinny as the girls! But you know what skinny guys have….

The song is alright, I like the groove Daft Punk provided, I love DP. I like the hook but the breathing and his hand “lifting” the girls is played out.

  4. I like this a lot, now that I’ve heard the whole thing…but can you say “Al Green rip-off”? Great groove!

  5. Hey Mike…don’t know what your age is, but go back and listen to Al Green’s “So Tired Of Bein’ Alone,” and you’ll see where Daft Punk got the groove you say they provided and where Pharrell got the vocals…same place. Just sayin’..

  6. Love this song. NERD is always coming up with interesting concepts and sounds. They can’t go wrong with a cute frontman like skateboard-P!

  7. fuking video feed played nothing but ads. Is it broken or do i just have to sit through five minutes of ads before watching the four minute music video?

  8. I am familiar with Al Green, I can see what you are saying, just dont know what song you might be talking about. But you know what Picasso said, bad artists copy, great artists STEAL! Its easy to say this guy ripped this guy and that guy ripped that guy. You may never have heard a particular artist and maybe your sound is similar, its just life. Another good one… There is nothing original under the sun!
