Aural Only: Marsha Ambrosius

Well, this is a step up from “Hope She Cheats On You (With A Basketball Player)”. Former Floetry member Marsha Ambrosius has dedicated her latest single “Far Away” to the fight against LGBT bullying and suicide. Not so surprisingly, her intentions seem much more sincere than similar efforts in the music industry. She states:

“Every year over 1 million people commit suicide. Some were bullied because of their sexuality. I lost a friend to suicide, and I’m asking all of you to support alternative lifestyles. Don’t put up with or join in with bullying. It’s time we become more aware in this world. Take a responsibility to make a difference. So if my music can save one life, I’ve done my job.”

From where we’re standing, this doesn’t sound like some random attempt to court the gay demographic. It’s clearly coming from her heart, and she’s even gone as far to dedicate her entire music video to the issue. So what do you think–should we push Avril aside for a week and throw this on the Weekly Top Ten?

  1. Anytime you can push Avril aside is a good time. That she’d be pushed aside for a good song is just gravy.
