Aural Only: Lykke Li

Judging from the first single “Get Some”, it appeared that Swedish indie-pop star Lykke Li would be exploring much darker themes on her sophomore album Wounded Rhymes. Her second offering “I Follow Rivers” seems to confirm that suspicion. The song is accompanied by a stalker-licious music video, in which she literally follows Swedish-Lebanese actor Fares Fares. And then they make out.

Don’t believe me? Then watch the damn clip! While the scenario is thoroughly disturbing–especially his perceived discomfort during the kiss–the overall imagery is quite beautiful. Of course, we’re not sure whether to thank director Tarik Saleh or Mother Nature for creating the island of Gotland. Maybe we should just thank Fares Fares’ parents for giving him good genes? He’s pretty darn sexy, right down to the big schnoz…

  1. I like this song a lot better than “Get Some.” Also, despite the creepiness, I really enjoy the raw quality of this video. Or, rather, the facade of rawness that Tarik Saleh has produced, right down into the casting of Fares Fares’ very interesting face.

  2. Wow…that was definitely high on the creepy-scale.

    But, at the same time, it was beeeeaaaauuuutiful. >.>;

  3. ok I love this song, video, and just Lykke Li in general. I have this idea that Lykke Li plays the child of Death and Love like death and love are like greek gods sort of a thing and she falls for this guy who she is supposed to be coming to take his soul and he too falls for her, but she reveals why she is coming to him, to take his soul and let him die, so he tries running and she knows she can’t let him get away, and she’s in love so she follows him till he surrenders. And she gives him a kiss of death. Yeah…I couldn’t just let this fester in my mind so decided to share my thoughts with you guys 🙂

  4. Why does everybody on this site have to relate everything to Lady Gaga? No, she doesn’t. So JG, it’s totally just you. But anyway, I’ve loved Lykke Li ever since Youth Novels and have waited for her new album. I think she is one of the best artistes in the music business. Even better than Lady Gaga. Lykke Li is much more original. I literally can’t ever get enough of her.
